I chose it because I was responsible for booking a "lunch meeting" in central London and one of my colleagues needed it to start by 11 am. I discovered quickly that 11 am in London is a dead zone when it comes to finding places appropriate for a sit-down lunch meeting (most places that serve breakfast end at 10:30 am and remain closed until 12 noon on the dot as the earliest for lunch). I did find a few places open at 11:30 am for lunch but they didn't take reservations and I did not want to chance being unable to get a guaranteed table for this meeting. I chose here because they opened at 11:30 am and they took a reservation. I also found that they have 1 star form the Guide Michelin if you follow that sort of thing. First, I love the location. It is in the financial district and very convenient for people to get to. It is literally across the street from the Bank tube station and if you can't find it when you exit the station after crossing the street, it is likely because you are standing right at the front entrance and didn't look up to see the subdued signage etched into the doorway window of the building. Entry is a bit imposing if you are not a high finance banker and I will warn you that everyone in the place (except my table) were in suits and power ties. While my party was reasonably dressed, without full suits on, I felt like I was a homeless person in the middle of Rodeo Drive. I really should have acted the part too and put out a cup for spare change since the price of the food here is pretty high. A simple lunch (as an example, a starter of soup and a pasta entree and some water, no alcohol ordered) will set you back somewhere in the range of $50 USD. The setting was updated old-school and very cool with a central circular bar set under a semi-glass dome and the interior was likely a former bank refurbished to be bright, cheery, and looking for ways to help take your money. The service was polished and polite, water glasses filled continuously and the place was packed. I noted a group come in right after me that was unable to get a table because they did not have a reservation so I'm sure this place packs it in with the surrounding bankers daily. I did notice that the service of our meal was not spaced well and there were several periods where we waited a long time for food to appear. I didn't really mind since we had a lot of agenda items to discuss and we were not really there for a 5 star meal but it occurred to me after that if I am going to be charged that kind of money for a meal, it really should be pretty close to right on. Once food began arriving, I was unable to take photos of my meal because I thought that might be rude given my colleagues at the table. My dish was tasty and perfectly cooked. Portions are reasonable but not huge. I left not completely full but not hungry either. It is right in the middle of the road for me and Iwould go back if I am needing to take someone out to impress them but it would not be a destination for me to seek out.
