Fantastic food, small portions
Outstanding food, delicious and beautifully presented but small portions, could have done with more veg with main course, had to ask for more bread as was still hungry afterwards.

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at 21212 today for a special birthday lunch. The dining room was exquisite..... spotlessly clean and amazing decor....All the staff were wonderful... Very friendly and polite....we both opted for the 5 courses with the wine pairings.....each course was a visual delight and the flavours were outstanding....We had a lovely time and will be back

From the moment we walked into the restaurant the staff were friendly and welcoming and we loved how knowledgeable and enthusiastic they were about the food. The food itself was amazing and beautifully presented. We will definitely be returning next time we’re in Edinburgh.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding hotel and restaurant
We had dinner in the restaurant which offered a chilled and intimate atmosphere, perfect for a couples retreat. Food was outstanding with exquisite flavours.
The room was immaculate with very quiet surroundings.
Staff did their upmost to make our time special, taking time to get to know us and offering outstanding service.
Would highly recommend for a break away.
Tasty but overpriced.
Nice restaurant which is very pricey, but this mathed by the quality of food but not the quantity - yesm, even for fine dining. Each dish was tasty enough. But for fine dining the portion sizes are on the small side - perhaps based on the 'less is more' principle. The staff were great and the place is lovely, however this dampened the experience - no-one likes to feel they're not receiving value for money.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding value, awesome food and wine
This must be the best value, fine dining establishment in Edinburgh! It is hard to see how this restaurant lost its Michelin star - the quality of the food, the wine matching and the front of house are superb and equal to any Michelin star restaurants we have eaten at. The surrounding are classy yet relaxed, the sommelier is knowledgeable and really passionate about his recommendations, and the food is artistic, creative and delicious. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

First visit to Edinburgh and can’t think of a better base for our visit - beautiful Georgian setting with stylish modern interiors and stunning views across the city . Our room was large warm and welcoming whilst the giant freestanding bath and enormous walk in rain shower perfect after wet days walk .
Dined in restaurant and food was all we hoped for - imaginative and beautifully presented with layers of flavour.
All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming - all in all a perfect visit
Every bite a delight
Our third visit to 21212 in recent months, and as per our previous visits, my wife and I were thrilled with both the food and the overall experience.
From the warm welcome at the inconspicuous front door, to the unique seating arrangements that are based on two huge, sumptuous custom made sofas that flank the ground floor reception room of this beautiful townhouse (from which you can see the chefs preparing the delicacies that will soon be presented), to the food itself that visually thrills before tantalising the taste buds with a vast array of both vision and execution - locally sourced ingredients fused together to become far greater than the sum of their already considerable parts.
By contrast, the menu itself is the epitome of simple design, offering a small amount of choice for starter (2), soup (1), main (2), cheese (1), dessert (2) - nothing much to think about other than putting your trust in the chef, and in our experience, that trust is more than fully deserved.
As per the title, during every visit we've had, every single bite has been an absolute delight.
Each star ingredient accompanied by a combination of supporting flavours and textures to ensure that the pallet is as well looked after as your eyes.
The icing on the cake is that each drink or dish is delivered with pride and professionalism, the staff are both knowledgeable and professional yet warm and friendly - high standards abound throughout!
Thank you Paul and Katie, we are already looking forward to our next visit, hopefully being able to book up in time to stay in one of your rooms this time!
A pleasant but dissatisfied visit
Me and my fiancé decided to go for a nice late evening dinner. It started really nice, as we entered we were introduced by a lady who I believe was the manager and took our jackets. We were seated and that's when the issues started.
Now the first things I'm going to comment on are purely trivial and due to personal taste so shouldent hold to much weight on the review. The decor is dated and looks very 80s esc. The tables had weird rock statues on them and there were 70s style wine coolers.
Now for the bigger issues
The amuse bouche, tomato jelly, olive tapanard and a horseradish cream foam. The jelly was too tough the tapanard was under seasoned and the foam was just confusing when paired with the other parts of the dish
The risotto was the only decent course. But again it was disappointing, another foam that tasted great but felt out of place and completely encompassed the flavour of the risotto. The risotto was nice but under seasoned and was just a bit bland
The beef. Wow this was the most disappointing dish of them all. Dry literally no salt and surrounded by uninspired vegetables. A carrot sauce that didn't even taste like carrot. Raw bell pepper and what tasted like McDonald pickles that felt really out of place. The over arching issues of the entire experience was, food that just didn't make sense together, and unseasoned ingredients
The desserts were good but just good, I'd enjoy a costa muffin more
The final thing I'll end with is that the staff were lovely and polite and there were no issues with them. But £170 for my self and fiancé to go back to the hotel staving and not even having enjoyed the food is honestly abhorrent. This is the 5th fine dining restaurant I've eaten at, including 3 1 Micheline star restaurants. I work in this industry and I would be ashamed to send that food to the table.
Lovely staff, excellent food but totally overpriced!
Second visit as this was a gift from family. We dined not long after it first opened with a bill for four of almost £400 with one bottle of wine and coffee served in paper cups and said we would not return but we did with £100 gift voucher for lunch. The staff were delightful and the taste of the food was excellent with a lot of effort put into the presentation but to charge almost £12 for a small glass of wine, almost £6 for still water and £10 for an absolutely childlike cheese platter then finally £6 for a teabag peppermint tea and the same for a coffee absolutely ridiculous. Surely a restaurant of this standard has fresh mint in the kitchen! The portions were very small and of all the excellent restaurants in Edinburgh this is certainly overpriced.
