Amazing vegan dining in New York City!! abcV
Amazing vegan dining in New York City!! abcV kitchen Address: 38 E 19th St, New York, NY 10003 Phone: (212) 475-5829 abcV is a phenomenal restaurant. We are 100% plant-based. While abcV is 95% plant-based and plant-forward. The remaining portion of the menu is easily available as plant-based/vegan The food was mouthwatering, brilliantly crafted, and delightfully health-giving. Having dined at some of the finest restaurants around the world, we find that this spot rivals, and in many cases surpasses, all others. Our most recent visit was a mid-morning couple's dining stop--our answer to a calling to bring pure health and exquisite taste into our bodies and souls. abcV was the perfect answer. We indulged in the unique "Pollen" smoothie (pollen, jungle peanut butter, dates, banana, almond milk, Himalayan salt). I can't emphasize enough how delicious this chilled and creamy culinary delight was! Served elegantly in a cabernet-style wine glass, I could immediately feel my cells rejuvenate with this healthy creation. The warm vegan croissant was also lovely, with just the right amount of flakiness, perfectly paired with homemade apple butter--yum! Another 'must-have' highlight was abcV's take on Avocado Toast, enhanced with Virgin Coconut & Argan Oils, Crunchy Seeds, Cumin, Sprouts, and perfectly shaved carrots. Wow! Thank you, abcV! We can't wait to return!
Be the first to ReplyThis place seemed like a great find.
However, the service and the ambiance is so terrible, it really deserves the one star. It's not worth the market price for what you're paying. These were the major issues we noticed: - Stained menus - There is nothing more appetizing than being given a menu with hideous food stains from multiple previous customers. Please if the average cost of a meal is $50-100 per person, you can afford to print a few new menus. - Small plates - yes, the concept is tapas style food. All of the portions are small. However, this is not spelled out anywhere in the menu. For ordering purposes, I would estimate 5-6 dishes for two people (if you are moderately hungry) - Really uncomfortable chairs that make the dining experience unpleasant at best. - Poorly paced tapas. Okay.. so it's kind of ridiculous how little effort goes into prepping the food to get to the table. It's done in a way that really destroys your ability to enjoy eating it. - Rude staff all around. Be the first to ReplyBeautiful vegetarian restaurant by Chef Jean-Georges.
The dishes were unique and yummy, but we didn't quite think they were good enough for the fine dining price and portions. Still, a great place to splurge for special occasions especially if you have strictly vegetarian friends!! They recommend family style and ordering 2-3 dishes per person, with each dish being around $30. **old review from summer 2023**

it was good! the veggies were really fresh and the waiter was really attentive. pretty pricey when you think about the fact that you're paying $30 for a cauliflower head, but a really fun dining experience regardless. cauliflower, dosa, lentils - overrated non alcoholic drinks - so fun get the inari/pea/rice thing! omg soo good. same with the maitake, california dates yummmm choc cake is good but not worth $18... man

I took myself on a solo date to abcV, and over all I'm glad I went. This was far beyond my typical going-out budget, but I decided to treat myself. So my review is the review of someone not generally familiar with fine dining. Here are my thoughts on what I ordered: 1. love conquers all non-alcoholic sparkling elixir: This smelled divine! I kept swishing it around in the glass just to catch the fragrance. The flavor was delicate and flower-forward, and paired nicely with my meal. 2. cornmeal crusted maitake & king oyster mushroom cultured cashew lime leaf, passion fruit, aji dulce pepper sauce I normally don't like the texture of mushrooms, but these were well-prepared, and the breading was just the right amount of crispy. The balance of flavors between the lime and pepper sauce was exquisite. In fact, I loved the pepper sauce so much that I wanted to drink what was left over after finishing the oysters, haha. If they ever sold the pepper sauce in a bottle, I'd buy it! (And I'm saying this as a Trinidadian who grew up on homemade scorpion chili hot sauce, so that's a huge compliment coming from me). 3. roasted provençal white asparagus (yuzu mustard, mandarinquat, olive, black fennel) I was honestly so disappointed by this one! :( My server said twice that this was a very popular dish, so I took the risk and ordered it, but the flavors were just not right. The asparagus was bland and too mushy, and the mustard was overpowering. I gave up halfway through my second asparagus and just ate the candied orange garnish, which was the redemption point of the dish. 4. agni tea (chrysanthemum, saffron, cardamom, hibiscus, mint, tulsi) I'm a big tea person, and I was so impressed with this tea! I had this alongside my pistachio tart, and normally when you get tea with a dessert, the tea's flavor seems pale in comparison. But this was such a lovely blend, I might order some from the Silver Tips website to keep at home. 5. rhubarb & pistachio frangipane tart with pistachio ice cream OUTSTANDING! One of the best desserts I've ever had, truly! The flavors and textures were balanced so well. When I saw the chef I told her as much! And even though I normally don't go to places where desserts cost $18, this price point felt reasonable for the size and density of the dessert. I would bring my friends next time just so they can taste it for themselves! Other notes: The service was smooth, and the ambiance / noise level was reasonable for how busy the place was. Would I ever come back here for a full meal? Maybe, if I found myself in a position to splurge again. But just for dessert, absolutely!
Be the first to ReplyFavorite dish was the walnut bolognese or the purple yam.
Dosa - it is unstuffed and pretty basic, better to get it at an authentic indian place instead. Beets - this time they were a fibrous and less flavorful. Chickpea hummus - kind of bland, wish we had gotten a different starter. Beluga lentils - not worth it. We only tried it because they were out of the cauliflower.
Be the first to ReplyNot impressed, sorry.
Was really busy brunch and servers were doing their best but honestly the food is ordinary and expensive for the portion sizes. Almond bananas pancakes were good but eggs on seared mushrooms bland and not at all seared, scrambled eggs also blah and small portion that took 40 mins to get... food took so long to get we canceled something and they were able to pull the ticket because it was still waiting to be made.... Sarabeth's or the smith better and better value for brunch.

Came in here a couple weeks ago when my friend, who is a vegetarian, came to visit NYC. Seemed like a nice place, with clean tables and a smiling hostess. My friend had a vegetarian burger. Hemp I believe. It was still cold on the inside. So she didnt eat the rest. I had a green spaghetti dish. I wasn't a fan, overdone and bland, but then again I'm not a vegetarian and don't know the norm for vegetarian/vegan food. I'd think though, at the least, they could make dishes edible for those of us who are either branching out, or suffering a fellow vegetarian and eating there with them. Oh well. The thing that really annoyed me though was the cook in the back. Younger woman. I saw that there were police officers coming in for a call or to use the bathroom or something. They didn't interact with her but every time she went past them she threw her hands up dramatically and did the "hands up don't shoot" bit like it was her job. This happened 3 times so I knew it wasn't a misconception on my part. It made us feel uncomfortable, like we were in an antagonistic atmosphere. We just came there to eat. That's it. It was just unnecessary. I understand and agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions and free speech, but at your place of employment? Remember you're representing the company in everything you do/say. Maybe the management should focus more on their workers cooking and preparing food instead of making political statements at a restaurant.

Lunch at abcV is surprisingly good as we didn't expect the plant based food menu. I just wanted to grab some lunch with my wife. It was like stumbling into a secret society where the members wield spatulas instead of swords and are on a valiant quest to elevate plant-based eating from mere sustenance to an art form. They don't just serve food; they serve enlightenment on a platter, with a side of cosmic wisdom and a sprinkle of culinary wizardry. Imagine if a Zen garden and a high-end spa had a love child, and that love child decided to open a restaurant with high vibration foods, balance and beauty, wellness, wisdom, and love? So much love, I feel the urge to hug my waiter (consensually, of course) but my wife said no. It's all designed to nurture not just our personal ecosystems but the planetary one as well. Eating here, I can't help but feel like I'm saving the world, one bite at a time. And the food--it's like each dish has been kissed by Mother Nature herself, then sent to culinary school. Who knew vegetables could be this indulgent? I half-expected the broccoli to levitate off my plate, such was the level of enlightenment it apparently possessed. My wife and I shared a dish that I'm convinced had achieved nirvana, and for a moment, I saw the universe in a grain of quinoa. abcV is an experience that transcends the mere act of eating. It's a culinary journey that promises not just a meal but a shift in consciousness. I left with a newfound appreciation for the humble vegetable. And perhaps, just perhaps, a yearning to nurture my own personal and planetary ecosystem--with a bit more wisdom, love, and a dash of deliciousness.

Abcv and abc go tf off. The ambiance, service, food, everything: divine. Delicious. Relaxing, charming, elegant but cozy environment. Was in NYC for 1 night and had to come here.

abcV is an incredible intimate dining experience for anyone who appreciates vegetables at their peak flavor. The small plates sharing format means we got to try several dishes and portion sizes were great where 4 was enough for two people. My favorite dish was actually the green hummus. They also had a few off menu specials including this special grain that is harvested by burning. Decor is beautiful and the ambience is romantic and calming with the light hues and quiet chatter. Service was top notch. Note the entrance can be tricky to find as there is no signage outsid .

There were definitely a few standouts at abcV - love conquers all sparkling elixir, the california dates, avocado lettuce cups, and the cappucino for me, and the dosa for my husband - I'd go back for those items alone. We weren't sure how full we would be from the cauliflower so opted not to order it, even though it's their most popular dish. Will have to try it another time. We loved the elixir - it was like having a nice buzz, without having any alcohol. The dates were perfect bites of flavor explosion. The avocado cups brought me back to my childhood - I have no idea how the chef managed to recreate the flavors of an Indian dish called pani puri with these lettuce cups, but they did and man I could have ordered that dish two more times! It really made me miss my mom. My husband liked the dosa, but I think I am too much of a purist when it comes to dosa and prefer the traditional version. We ordered a mushroom dish (I cannot recall the name), but we should have probably researched the type of mushroom because it had an incredibly fishy smell and taste and I couldn't stand it. If you like that flavor, you'll like it, but it wasn't for us. We ordered the coconut sticky rice to go with this dish, but they forgot to bring the two items out together, so our rice was cold by the time the entree arrived and it didn't appeal to us as much. The waited offered to refire it, which was kind, but it would have been a waste of food and time and we didn't care for the taste of the mushrooms anyway. I am pretty sure we got dessert, but it wasn't memorable, however that cappuccino was! I will definitely be stopping in for another very soon. The service was fantastic from the moment we entered the door to being seated until we left. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and I loved how honest he was about the dishes after we told him our preferences. The vibe at abcV was much larger than I was anticipating, it felt like being in a big, fancy dining hall, but once you're at your table you didn't feel it as much. Definitely looking forward to going back to try a couple of the other dishes and getting that cappucino again :)
Be the first to ReplyGood stuff here! Really creative dishes at this place.
Haven't been in a little while so I'm curious to know what they're doing for seasonal veggies right now.

Be the first to ReplyExceptional.
The special pasta today was a bit meh while the asparagus was a standout as were the other dishes (we had a lot of the menu). Drinks were ok, they didn't have the one white wine I ordered but it's ok. Have the salads, the cauliflower, the silken tofu, I could keep going....

Worst meal I had in New York! The dosa was awful (egg tasted weird) and dry (mine was the non yogurt), my companion ordered the other dosa with yogurt and avocado she didn't like it either. She is not picky nor ever complains oh she did to me. I don't like confrontation so we didn't say anything, I took two bites and that's was it. My companion tried to eat it only was able to eat 1/4 of it. How in the world can they be famous serving this junk! We both were sick that night and the next day. Stay away from this place !!!

Be the first to ReplyWe had a lovely meal of about 8 dishes for 4 people.
The waiters were friendly and knowledgeable and maintained a good pace, bringing dishes one or two at a time. Some of our favorites were the dosa with chutneys, the radicchio salad with citrus and avocado, and the roasted shitake mushrooms. The beluga lentils were very tasty but quite acidic - we paired them with a side of sticky rice. The cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks were creative and well balanced. Overall, it was a very tasty and pleasant meal - but at this price, with plates of this size, I expect dishes to pack a bigger punch.

We came here with a big group so we sampled several of their dishes. Definitely recommend and it's a bigger plus that it is vegan. Some of the highlights:Dosa, figs, basmati rice, little gem lettucesPersonally, the desserts were the gems of the night and I loved the chocolate cake and the hazelnut mochi. The mezcal passionfruit cocktail was also delicious. Service was polite and prompt-- they definitely keep the courses/dishes going with no lag time in between. This is also the place that holds you to your reservation time and gives you warnings leading up to the end of your time!

Visited ABCV on Valentine's Day for a date night and I got to say, this vegan restaurant by renowned chefs, Jean Georges & Neal Harden, lives up to all the hype. I am not a big fan of vegan/plant based food but was completely blown away by the dishes we tried here, a total culinary experience: 1. California dates with whipped coconut yogurt and tahini, pistachio, mint and lemon- an absolute delightful dish with unique ingredients, I could never imagine went so well with dates.2. Dosa with sambal, mint and pear chutney. The pear chutney was my favorite and the dosa good too! Was so glad to see Indian dishes on the menu which didn't disappoint.3. Mushroom walnut bolognese- this pasta was soul food. So comforting and rich. It came with mushroom sauce and every bite had the crunch from the walnuts. Thanks to our sever for her top recommendation!4. Whole roasted cauliflower with turmeric tahini, za'atar, pomegranate, red zhug, fresh herbs & pistachio- the sauces in this dish were excellent! If I could, I'd ask for a side of each! Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyABCV was way more popping than i thought.
There were plenty of reservations available a week in advance but the restaurant was full on a Wednesday night. The restaurant is pretty cool, a bit like an art studio vibes. It is a bit loud and some tables are closer together than others. Food/drinks:-Cocktails were both good and really balanced. I got a mezcal maracuya(?) and loved it-Dosa was great as well. Whatever mango/passion fruit dip that was was AMAZING-the Beets made in a tartare style was decent. Needs to be mixed together to get all the flavors intended-whole cauliflower was good, but I think it needs more tahini and topping. It's only covered at the top and there needs to be more topping/sauce for the middle/base that isn't exposed-bolognese - definitely our favorite. It's great stuff!
Be the first to ReplyAfter sharing two appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert
After sharing two appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert with my companion, I left ABCV underwhelmed--and a little hungry. The physical space is trendy, intimate, and comfortable, and our affable server was very knowledge about the menu; that is when we could find him. We dined on a busy Wednesday evening and waited too long for everything, including ordering. With one or two exceptions the food was bland, skimpily portioned, and disappointing. We paid about $35 for a special pasta with morels that turned out to be something one might toss together when cleaning out a pantry. The only item I thought was notable was the set of avocado and lettuce wraps. Finally, the cocktails were tasty, but skimpy like the food. And we enjoyed our $92 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc--one of the less expensive wines on the menu.Overall, not a terrible meal; the ambience is cool and the staff were friendly. I just found the food boring, paltry, and overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this restaurant more, but I left
I really wanted to like this restaurant more, but I left feeling kind of disappointed in my experience. Anytime I go to a city like NYC, I get excited about the abundance of vegan and vegetarian options. I had heard such good things about this place and decided to give it a shot. My sister and I had a reservation for 2 but last minute, a friend was joining us, so we had to cancel it. Unfortunately, on a Saturday night at 7 pm, they said the wait to dine inside would be quite long and the only seating they had was outside. After turning the heater on, which honestly did not help in the near freezing weather, and sitting in front of a view of trash bags on the street, we asked if we could wait for a table inside. After telling us no twice and us considering leaving to find somewhere else to eat, they eventually said that we could wait and they would have a table ready in 30 minutes. The wait ended up being closer to an hour and 15 min and every group was seated before us. The restaurant seems to be designed for pairs, which was why it must have been so difficult to get a table. We were seated at one corner of a table of 6 and a different couple was seated next to us. We honestly did not mind sharing our space at all! Due to the long wait, they brought us a complimentary honeynut squash with pita as an appetizer. It was a pleasant surprise! The squash was a good mix of sweet and savory and the mint made it taste really fresh. The pita portions were very small though. To start off, we got the crisp radicchio salad. I really loved the mesh of textures and flavors. The spiced avocado paired well with the fresh fruit, but the dressing was heavy on the garlic and ended up overtaking the entire salad. For entrees, we got the spinach spaghetti and the custardy tofu. The spinach spaghetti was bland, but the lemon upped the flavor as did the umami/tang from the gran kinara cheese. The custardy tofu was a very unique dish for me. It melted in your mouth. The broth was a little more sour than I was expecting, but it paired well with the coconut rice as suggested by the waiter. We were also given a scoop of delicious sorbet with a candle even though it was none of our birthdays! Overall, the service during the meal was good, the ambiance was nice, and the food is interesting/unique, but I don't think the experience was really memorable. Rate 3 stars for food and prices but add a star for the 2 complimentary dishes.
Be the first to ReplyUndoubtedly the best vegan restaurant I've been to EVER.
It always amazes me even more that all the dishes are raw vegan and so flavorful. They all have such elegant flavor profiles and divine presentation. The drinks are amazing! The service is amazing! Because I've gone a few times and have tried nearly everything on the menu I can't recommend a specific thing because EVERYTHING IS GOOD. Everyone is very kind and friendly the atmosphere is welcoming. I will share a few images but trust me when I say you'll enjoy anything you order here! The only thing I'm sad about is one of my favorite dishes they usually have was out of season for the current menu so I missed out on getting it again. Technically the seasonal menu just makes the experience more adventurous and surprising! Excited to visit again and see what they have in store
