Of all the takeaways in Selly Oak, Adam's Place is quite possibly the best placed of the lot, directly opposite one of the main exits from the University of Birmingham, and situated slap bang right in the middle of the main stretch of pubs. As with the vast majority of Selly Oak takeaways, its prices are catered towards students, offering relatively cheap food that ranges from fish and chips to burgers. However, unlike other takeaways in Selly Oak such as Pizza Land or Rooster House, you can really taste the cheapness of the food. It tends to veer from average to occasionally a wet, greasy mess of a meal that even those in the most inebriated of states will struggle to ram in their mouths. It isn't bad, but considering the vastly better alternatives in close proximity, it's best to give Adam's Place a miss, unless you really want fish and chips, in which case there aren't many options.

If there are two things I learned from being at University it's that students drink far too much and get very, very hungry as a result. Therefore Adam's Place in Selly Oak, which has a huge student population on account of its close proximity to Birmingham University, is in the perfect position to feed drunken scroungers such as myself. I'm not going to pretend that they do the best fish and chips in Brum, but they certainly provide more than adequate fare if you have just sank ten pints and have a gaping hole where your stomach used to be. I'm not suggesting that the food is only edible when drunk either as I have had numerous sober meals at Adam's and enjoyed all of them, it's just that the Birmingham fast food market is highly crowded and competitive. In terms of interior they've got a small seating area which is handy and toilet facilities as well which are kept in good condition, something which always improves your confidence in an eatery. Overall a good solid chippy which provides a decent service to the student population of Selly Oak, no complaints from me!

Adam's Place is opposite the Selly Sausage and located just outside of the University campus on the Bristol Road. For some reason, the student consensus deems it to be the inferior to Rooster House with several jokes revolving around the prospect of being forced to dine at Adam's, should Rooster House ever close.Personally, I have never understood why such a position remains as I have always found Adam's Place to manage the chip shop fare particularly well: The chips are never too fried (I'm a sucker for soft chips), the burgers are pretty good and their portions are extremely generous considering how inexpensive the place is. Every member of staff I have been served by has always been pleasant and friendly, although this has only served to heighten my reliance on the place in the past! If you're on the way home after a long day and simply fancy a bag of chips, then Adam's Place will always do you well.
