Ahi Auckland Reviews from The Last Year
Cosy, casual and yummy
A small place with a small menu, tough the menu is well planned with interesting dishes. I went for something quick since I had few time. Ordered sourdough bread with lemon butter, this was beautiful, artisan bread at its best. A glass of wine washed down well, complimented by tortellini with almonds and camimille which were also very good, hopefully next time I can try more dishes. This is a Michelin Bib Gourmand so one can expect good food at good value. The good food is there, not sure about the value since the tortellini costed €18 and the portion is very small.
Tasting menu
Fantastic tasting menu. We also did the wine pairing which we would highly recommend. They were able to cater to 1 of the members being a pescatarian which was great
Elevated meal
Excellent from start to finish, our first meal in Auckland set a high bar. Attentive but unobtrusive service, imaginative dishes like their scampi corn dog and perfect handling of fresh seafood. Having a great table looking over the public square certainly helped. Somewhat hard to find on the 2nd floor of a shopping mall.
Exceptional Experience
Experienced the Journey throughNZ tasting menu. Best dining experience ever in NZ after 10 years living here. Superb at so many levels. Congratulations Chef and the whole service team.
Maccas is just across the square!
I know what they are trying to do- showcase NZ produce and wines but it is by no means perfect. Some of the dishes are amazing for eg the scampi hotdog and the wallaby tartare, but the portion sizes are just not adequate for the very considerable prices. And the wine list is very limited. lots of pretty ordinary NZ wines, not enough international wines and very big mark ups. Far too few value Aussie red wines on the list for eg! We had the tasting menu 4 starters and 4 “mains” but honestly by the end my appetite was outpacing the food delivery and I was planning a trip across the square to Maccas for a top up quarter pounder- and no joking I did this last time I dined here I left to unsatisfied. Mentioned this plan to the waiter and suddenly, magically, a complimentary and I have to say a wonderful roast potatoes dish appeared. So unless you are on a diet or hosting a bulimia society annual dinner chances are you will leave here less than replete. A shame as the intent is very admirable.
Excellent food and extensive wine list
Our second visit here. This is a special occassion place caterig well for intimate as well as larger group dining. It is at the upper end of prices. For 4 of us that had cocktails, ordered a $120 bottle of wine as well as 2 other drinks and we had 2 courses each and shared desserts ; not much change from $600. On the busy Saturday night we dined, it was packed and tables were being turned over multiple times. Mains averaged $46 each. My blue cod was delicious (not often do you get this fish in a restaurant). I higly recommend the enoki tempura mushroom starter, the beetroot bhaji's like good too (but not much to them though). We got some crispy battered agria potatoes to share for the table. I noticed the scampi corndog has 'shrunk' in size since last time. A great place that has retained some signature dishes and offers a diverse range of meats ( wallaby, wild shot venison).
Special Night Out
We were treated to a superb meal at AHI. Every part of the meal was First Class , and all the staff looked after us perfectly If you are wanting a Special night out this is the place ; it isn’t cheap but it’s worth it
An absolute must for serious foodies
Ahi is at the top of its game and an absolute must for serious foodies. This was our second visit having first been there last year and if anything, the quality is even more remarkable. The frehness of locally sourced produce in often complex and always very accomplished compositions is exceptional, the staff deeply knowledgeable about food and wine pairing and super friendly and efficient, and the setting is stylish and elegant. An all around class act
Just wow. Only here for a couple weeks and going to try to come back before I tell friends.
Food is incredible and a really interesting wine list too. Food miles and provenance is a focus and the quality and passion shines through. Creative dishes each with a hint of spice and heat. So definitely want to come back and try the tasting menu.
Wow
From arrival at the restaurant to leaving we were treated like VIPs. The service was professional, but friendly. As it was a special occasion ( 36 years together and we still like each other) we chose the 4 snacks and 4 courses, with the matched beverage. The food on all of our courses were amazing. Our particular starter favourites were the oyster and a surprise as we had never eaten oysters. The other starters were equally as good, wallaby tartare, BBQ long finned eel, scampi corn dog. We loved the tomato and melon as a starter. I loved the octopus, but it wasn’t to my husband’s taste. The red deer was good, but being picky felt it needed to be a little more tender. The black pudding was superb. . Pudding was great and there were other little treats during the meal. A really special thank you to Dani our waiter, Alyssa our runner, but most of all Leo who gave us lovely stories about the wine and why the pairing choices had been made. Management should be proud of their team. This isn’t just fine dining, it’s exceptional dining.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
