Alchemist København Reviews
Bravo on food, venue and service!
Stunning food service and ambiance. We’ve never experienced such a continuous creative presentation of a tasting menu. We estimated perhaps 30 or more individual tastes including food and beverages. The restaurant and staff communicate their commitment to sustainability and the environment with drama, striking visuals, and humor. Our chief server Andrea was as entertaining and terrific as the food was. BRAVO!
Simply spectacular
I’ve had the chance to dine at several three-Michelin-star restaurants before, but Alchemist surpasses them all. This place goes far beyond the concept of a restaurant—it’s an immersive experience that engages all the senses. The dishes are shocking, thought-provoking, and at the same time absolutely delicious. Never before had I eaten a meringue with lamb brain cream or jellyfish. The dinner lasted six hours, yet not for a single moment did it feel boring. The setting changes from room to room, and each new dish stuns with its creativity. One of the interactive spaces makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into a 3D cinema or a Las Vegas show. The service is impeccable—professional, attentive, and always ready with excellent recommendations. The final bill is certainly impressive, but every moment at Alchemist is worth it.
Simply Epic
So much has been said or written about this one of a kind experience that I want to instead mention some things that really stood out to us: - There was a starter washcloth; the only one I can recall in my dining experience. Really nice touch. - During a couple of the impressions, there were damp cloth dabbers to clean your fingers. Yet another nice touch. - We ate at Germanium and Noma later in the week, and of the three, the Alchemist had the best overall service, which is really saying something. - The movement of locations to really show off the space made it feel like we were sharing a meal at Chef Rasmus' home. - I found the messages in the cuisine not overly preachy; by now, you should know what you're in for, and if you don't understand and appreciate the world's challenges being highlighted by some of these courses, you're a moron. If you don't want to be challenged by the message, please don't go. - Several courses really challenge the palate; when they say everything's been done, The Alchemist proves "them" wrong. - Chef Munk serves every diner a course (in our case the white bean paste with Pablo Picasso's face in it, and crackers to sop it up. The whole thing somehow tasted like a cracker/cheese/salami mash that I so loved as a kid in the Midwest.) To repeat, the chef himself served a course. He also graciously visited and took pictures with us during the dessert courses. Compare this with Geranium, where Soren Ledet was in the house but I never saw him once speak to a diner despite walking through the space twice (Chef Rene was not at Noma the day we dined there). I can't overemphasize how impressed we were. - They clean the bathrooms between every diner using them. Compare to Geranium, where my wife had a toilet seat left up. - The juice pairing and the wine pairing were both inspiring. We love wine pairings, mainly to discover new wines and regions, and the entry level pairing delivered in spades. Note that the pairing begins after the initial impressions, so be prepared to spend more if you want to start with some bubbles. If you love food, and the idea that food can make connections and spread joy and wonder, you are in for a priceless experience. If you've read this far, you have the money to spend. This is what you earned it for.
Enestående middag
What an extraordinary culinary experience we had at Alchemist! It truly felt like a journey of a lifetime. Chef Rasmus undoubtedly deserves the title of Best Chef! His creativity and inspiration transformed our dinner into something truly special, and we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more.
An Evening at Alchemist: a Midsummer Night’s Dream
We first heard of Alchemist just over a year before we actually went. It was recommended to us by the chef of another 2-starred Michelin restaurant in England. It’s hard to explain what Alchemist is all about without making the thing sound gimmicky and sensationalist, so we decided not to act on what we heard. The booking system, consisting as it does of “tickets” on Tock (Ticket-Tock, not Tik Tok!), which go within 24 hours of release, was also not promising. But my curiosity remained and eventually, I decided to give it a go and managed to get a reservation for four people in June. Unfortunately, two of our party had to cancel so I had assumed we would have to cancel the whole booking as there was no-one to “tock” to, and all the tickets for two would have gone. But an email to the restaurant got a really helpful reply from Maria, the booking manager. She changed the booking to two people (with a slight change in the start-time of the meal) and pointed out that the deposit we had paid for 4 people would more than pay for two diners in full. She was great. So, my wife and I showed up on the day, having done a bit of research into Chef Rasmus Munk and the restaurant. This included watching the December 2023 Masterchefs-the Professionals programme where the 3 young UK finalists were sent to his restaurant and ended up helping with some of his dishes in the kitchen. Please see this programme if you can before you go. Apart from the more obvious things that impress (after all, his dishes are known as “impressions”), what really came across was the kindness he showed to these three obviously scared rabbits in headlights. We were not sure if we would meet him, but if we did, we would look at him both with awe and affection! Not only did we meet him, but we did so on several occasions as we went from the lounge to the famous dome and finally in the beautiful balcony area overlooking the dome. If we did not know what he looked like, we could easily have mistaken him for one of the serving team, as he wore the same smart grey jacket as everyone else, with no medals or name attached! And the first meeting was particularly significant for us, as it occurred over the presentation of an impression called “Smokey Ball”. This is a round, crisp ball made from a thin and crispy bread, cut at the top, and covered by a topping finished with caviar. You eat the top first, and when the ball opens, smoke is released. It reminded us of pani puri, an Indian street snack which we have loved from childhood, and is made of the same puffy ball, but the “pani” in it is water flavoured with green chillies, mint, and coriander. How great to release childhood memories! So, the Alchemist impression contained smoke, which comes from fire, whereas the Indian snack uses water-a nice contrast of the elements! The Alchemist experience is described as Holistic Cuisine, and I could write about all the numerous impressions and how we reacted, but that would take too long. I will cover one more: “Plastic Fantastic”, which is the famous dish containing fish and topped with edible plastic, to make us aware of the plastic pollution contained in fish because of what is thrown into the oceans. It so happened that the projection on the dome ceiling while we were eating this was an underwater sequence of moon jellyfish ( a previous impression in our meal) swimming along with plastic bags. The combination of the food and that film sequence with apt music, really brought home a sense of awareness of what was going on in the oceans, but with gratitude for the way the Alchemist team dealt with the issue in the impression. I started this review by expressing concern about Alchemist being perhaps too gimmicky and maybe just a one-off destination. The fact is that I have never thought about a restaurant meal as much as I have of our Alchemist evening since we were lucky enough to have our first dinner at El Bulli back in the noughties. The cooking is the most innovative we have come across since El Bulli, and our last meal there was some seventeen years ago. Ferran Adria got us thinking then, and Rasmus Munk has done the same now. Taste buds open the brain buds in both their ways of cooking. The cooking underpins everything else: in other words, if you took away the dome, the music, the journey through rooms and so on, you would still have an outstanding experience. Our biggest concern was that the food might be below par, but this was groundless. We also decided on the Amplified wine pairing list as I found it too challenging to look for individual wine bottles out of a cellar of 10,000 odd, although it was fun to go through their high-tech wine-list. This was a rare occasion where every single offering on the pairing was wonderful-normally we find there are at least a couple which are not, so we prefer to avoid pairings. And I can thoroughly recommend their own cocktail creations. My indigo martini, coloured by what I believe was colour extracted from farmed butterflies, was exquisite as was my wife’s ant hill cocktail, including an ant stuck in the glass ( not compulsory to consume it!). And finally, a word about the service. This was extraordinary: professional and friendly all mixed into a seamless whole. The person who looked after us the most was Enrico, the chief sommelier, but there were others whose names we did not catch, all operating with professionalism, friendliness and, most importantly, humour. We particularly enjoyed our long chat with Lykke, the General Manager. Because Enrico spent so much time with us, it felt like the start of a new friendship (not sure if he felt the same!). My initial aim was to tick (sorry!) Alchemist off the list, having gone once. But now that we have “been there, done that”, we really want to go again. Our thanks to Chef Rasmus, Lykke, Enrico and the rest of the Alchemist team for our midsummer night’s dream and how they performed it for us.
After my second visit, Alchemist remains my top dining experience ever
We were incredibly lucky to catch a table at alchemist and I am so glad I was able to be there with my foodie friend. The experience, like last time was a multi-sense trip with a focus on sustainability and delicious food made from cuts that most would not bother using in a kitchen. The meal is full of surprises and amazing flavors. The wine selection is huge and the tablet with the wine list fascinating (I could play with that thing all night if I was allowed to). The concept of moving from space to space adds to the experience and, in the dome, the projections on the ceiling complete the experience. Service is impeccably perfect. In fact, I feel they have kicked it up a notch from last time. For example, water glasses were replaced when we switched from sea to land dishes. Chapeau! Having the chef wander around and serve dishes in his infinitely low-key attitude is quite fascinating as well. I wonder how many guests don't even realize he is the genius behind the operation. Will I come back? MOST DEFINITELY! Alchemist is and remains my top dining destination on this planet. Thank you Chef & Team for the amazing evening! PS ("fun fact"): I realized I am allergic to butterflies. Duck lips galore. Ooops.
Exceptional food and an imaginative, thought-provoking and creative experience, with service of the highest quality.
We knew the food would be exceptional, we knew the experience would be imaginative and thought-provoking and creative, we knew the service would be of the highest quality and we knew the whole experience would happen within a marvel of architecture and design…yet Rasmus and his team managed to exceed these expectations on every level beyond anything we could imagine. We left with full stomachs, full brains and full of wonder and joy. We have so many memories that will last forever (and I wont share photos as I don't want to spoil anything!).
Absolutely mind-blowing
This was once of those once in a lifetime experiences. Very unique concept. Loved the food. Every single dish is just a work of art. I truly cannot believe the extraordinary talent of . Rasmus Munk
You have to experience yourself
It is really an experience - not “just” food. From the entrance until the exit we had been positive surprised. This concept of experience/food will let us remember your service for a long time. Thanks for sharing you interpretation of our climate situation, food behavior and more .. with us in this unforgettable evening. Of course, there are dishes which are very challenging - others have just been THAT perfect. Just try - and build your own opinion.
Unforgettable Experience
What an experience from start to finish! To start with we arrived there earlier and they managed to get us in earlier, even offered a poncho - as I was cold - in case we would have waited. Needless to say it’s certainly kicked off our experience in a great way. The entry room took us by surprise in a fantastic way and managed to get us in the mood even more. We wanted to try the bunny ears cocktail, which we did and highly recommended then the magic of the food started flowing. Me and my partner went there with very open mind, which is needed to fully understand and appreciate the amazing work what Rasmus and his team does. Every single dish was on an other level, what we both have ever tasted even if there was one or two more challenging dishes. Service was exceptional throughout the evening and all of their knowledge of the food and beverage. Our host, Hannah was very professional with a cracking sense of humor. All of the team member has such a great character, which we were both pleased to see. Booking a table can be stressful as tickets are gone within a very short time but certainly worth to go through the nerve wracking time till you managed to be quick enough to reserve a spot :)
Brilliant, amazing, made better by the staff!!
Cocktails were out of this world. Had a very wild variety, all of which were amazing. The wonderful guy that served us was amazing. Knew what we wanted before we did (in the. Best way). If I had the personality and wherewithal in my 20’s I’d be as successful as we know he will be!! Can’t wait to bring our friends
Mindbogglingly awesome
We were here in December and this restaurant is definitely in my top 5 of all time. The food, staff, surroundings and ambience were all exquisite and this restaurant is truly memorable in more ways than one. We were looked after by Nandi, Mireia and Nina for the bulk of our meal and the service was excellent and it was so wonderful being able to have a chat and get to know them. I truly can not express how mind bogglingly awesome this place is and it was wonderful being guided to see the experimental kitchen and even getting to meet Rasmus himself! Thanks to everyone at the alchemist who made our evening so memorable it was truly spectacular from start to finish! I don’t want to ruin it for people who are booked to visit but I can guarantee you will not be disappointed and it is impossible to not have fun here! There are so many elements to this place like layers of an onion, and everything is planned with precision and flair.
Differently surprising!
Aware of this restaurant reputation, but intentionally avoided reading up in advance, I was ready for the complete surprise. A true multisensory experience - from start to finish . Unexpected was the humour and honesty of most of the dishes all paired with a fantastic cinematic effect. Top experience,
Mind blowing
WOW what a night. 8 hours with a full treat, incredible set-up, food, wine, art, chefs and hosts. A special thank to Liza and all staff for taking care of us, including Chef R. This night will stay crafted in HCA paper cuts, marble, reflections, copper, digital space journeys and the human mind! THANKS - this was for me mind blowing :)
One word: YES!
It’s incredible and words can’t really do it justice. The food is great, the service is perfect and the whole experience is unforgettable.
Worlds best restaurant
Perhaps the best restaurant in the world. This is not only about absolute world class food but also about a statement and an emotional tour through the different rooms in Alchemist.
best experience I ever had - impeccable service
Cannot stress hard enough how much I loved this. It was like traveling to outer space or entering a portal to another world. The service was amazing, both prior to our visit (from the people in the office) and during, from the kitchen and waiters. Our server was very attentive and told us a lot about the wines, which were very good. Will try to book again and come back <3 hope to take the kids here too when they're old enough to appreciate it. My partner has some pictures that I will try to upload later.
Mind blowing
An experience extraordinary. And in every way. Of course the food is very special but so is everything else. If you are into this kind of gastronomy it’s a must try.
Best restaurant of the world
The experience is balanced for everyone. The message that Rasmus wanna share is so strong, no one can describe it cuz you have to feel it.
Worth it
This place is ridiculous because of the experience and how they pair the food with the wine and the graphics in the dome and the sound. I’ve definitely had better tasting food, but never in this context. Highly recommended.
An Adventure
We were lucky to get some last minute reservations, and lucky to be able to afford them… Visiting Alchemist is certainly a privilege for the few; both as it is nearly impossible to get a reservation, and as it costs in the range of a family holiday in Spain. That’s why I was a bit surprised when we were asked upon arrival if we would like a cocktail (which was clearly not included in the price…)? I would very strongly prefer to pay just that little bit more up front, and the not be reminded more about money on such an extraordinary evening!! I know that you must chose if you would like wine, which wine, which wine pariring package etc – that is of course unavoidable; but apart from that, I highly recommend Alchemist to provide an ‘all inclusive’ experience. A small additional hiccup is that you cannot chose ½ a wine menu. We are actually many who would like just a sip of the wine for the experience, but who do not tolerate a whole wine menu. If you chose ½ wine menu, you must pay 50% more, I cannot understand why? The rest is history - the food, the show etc. You could argue that at times the symbolism is just too thick at Alchemist. I would like to make another point about the costs, as the story repeated itself later. We had coffee and tea and had to pay extra for that as well. I wanted to taste the tea that my son got, as I thought there was more in the teapot; however, an extra 100 DKK was added to the bill. That is, indeed, a drop in the sea; but the waiter should have told us, and it was just not nice. I was not very impressed by our southern Italian female waiter. Other personnel that we met were highly professional, and it was of course a privilege to chat with Chef Rasmus Munk himself on the occasions where he showed up at our table Hats off for Alchemist, but I would prefer to pay just a little more up front, and then be confronted with as few as possible additional costs during the evening.
A meal for all senses
Why does this place not have 3 Michelin stars? I really do not know... because, in my life as a traveler and food aficionado, I have never experienced a meal with all senses. Starting from the walk-in experience, discovering oneself, then being led to the bar area where one can watch the chefs prepare the first bites of the evening paired with intricate cocktails. Yup, I was able to stomach the ball of smoke in one bite. The omelette, as well as the Catalan cheese sandwich were so well masked as something else, that they left me just wondering what would follow. The whole meal/experience is self paced and I love it. I tend to be fast at times and slow at others. No rushing at all here. The iPad with the drink menu app was simply wow; so was the wine cellar. Moving on to the dining room, which has a huge domed room with projections. The space is gorgeous, elegant, simple. Lighting is perfect and individualized. So is the server and experience all evening. Only have I experienced this attention to detail at Eleven Madison Park before. The whole meal had a story and raised awareness for how wasteful humanity is. Did this bother me? No, it helped me better appreciate my food and, more important, the science and art needed to make the "weird cuts" of meat palatable and delicious. Wine pairing was perfect and provided the right mood for the ball pit (where I could have napped for 30 mins, to be honest). Afterwards some drinks in the bar and off we went. ... I will come back. Promise.

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Alchemist København at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Alchemist København page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FulfilledThread16, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* FulfilledThread16 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FulfilledThread16 for any questions Peter may have as FulfilledThread16 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FulfilledThread16 now uses their connections at Alchemist København to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FulfilledThread16 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FulfilledThread16 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FulfilledThread16's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Alchemist København!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
