Unbelievable Middle Eastern plates
I ordered a plate of salads and falafel. Everything looked fresh and prepared from scratch. The eggplant salad, baba ganoush, contained some herb - never seen that before. Original recipe.

I’m not in the habit of leaving bad reviews so let’s put this one in context. Our daughter’s recent wedding was catered for by our local Syrian restaurant in England, so we’re not unfamiliar with the cuisine and we know how good it can be. Fast forward a couple of months to our restorative French break near Tours. Finding ourselves outside this particular restaurant at lunchtime seemed ….. well …… serendipitous. We could happily have ordered the Mezze sharing platter which the (only) other couple were eating, but we decided to push the boat out and go for the Specialite du Chef - a sharing dish for two at 34 euros. The order having been delivered, there did then appear to be some sort of altercation in the kitchen with raised voices and arm waving. Maybe the chef was unhappy at having to conjure up his speciality at lunchtime? Maybe he simply had a hangover? Who knows? They could have said so and we’d happily have reconsidered. But when the dish arrived - delivered courtesy of the chef rather than the waitress - it was more “beans on toast” than “specialite”, totally lacking in flavour and badly seasoned. See attached photograph. It was totally underwhelming. The total for this, a half carafe of local wine, two small pieces of baclawa and two teas - of the VERY ordinary variety - was 58 euros. The waitress very pointedly went through the addition twice on her mobile, almost as if to apologise for the ridiculous bill that we were about to be presented with. But we paid it anyway and left. We shall not be returning.
