Obviously, like any eager food, I get a lot of recommendations from Chicago Influencers. I have been desiring to check out Alla Vita for over 6 months now. And now, my dreams have finally come true. As soon as you walk in, you know this is a SWANKY place! It's gorgeous and overdone, but not at all tacky. There's one giant dining room that has delicate drapes hanging from the ceiling and another side room, more like a greenhouse with large glass windows and plants strewn about the rafters. We were seated in the greenhouse annex and I felt this was the better space, much more intimate and quieter than the large dining room. Our server suggested ~4 items for me and my companion. Considering the wait for this place, we decided to go big or go home and order a ton of food. Our server reminded us that we were ordering A LOT of food and we happily told her we can't wait to have leftovers!Drinks: - Started with a glass of champagne, because celebrating life!- Flower Crown cocktail: LOVED THIS. Didn't taste like alcohol (lol) and I had two. So sweet and delicious. Appetizers:- Tuna Crudo: Vibrant red tuna, delicate in flavor, topped with a bright Meyer lemon oil and complemented by a horseradish aioli. Definitely recommend. - Arancini: Risotto balls fried to crispy perfection and filled with gooey cheese. These are heavy but very tasty and not overwhelming. We ate 2 and brought the other 2 home (reheated in the air fryer and they were as perfect as originally served). -Burrata: A palm-sized portion of Buratta, uniquely paired with an asparagus and farro salad and a generous serving of bread. It was an unexpected pairing but definitely delicious. The burrata was so creamy yet light. We quickly ate all of this.Entrees:- Rigatoni alla Vodka: I'm a purist, so this wasn't my favorite. This vodka sauce was heavy-handed with a spicy kick- not my preference. Though, the rigatoni was tender and hearty. Most of this came back for leftovers (which I paired with some steamed kale). - Tagliatelle- Thick ribbony noodles with chunky beef shank ragu. As a pescatarian, I do not normally feel compelled to eat meat, but I sampled this and it was delicious. The meat was shredded and not ground so it was easy to navigate around to get a taste. My companion loved this. - Ricotta Dumplings in Cacio e Pepe: Our server noted this as the most popular item on the menu. At first taste, you can understand why. It is sooo creamy and savory with a beautiful balance of pepper. However, it is very rich and very heavy; sure to fill you up, even with the modest portion. We packed up most of this, but sad to report, it does not reheat well. So definitely eat this while you're there and make sure it is a dish you're sharing with others. - Mushroom pizza: This is the best pizza crust I've ever had (and I'm from New York). Alla Vita really has this crispy on the outside, soft on the inside crust down pat. The pizza is complemented by black truffle, caramelized onion, and taleggio. It is VERY pungent but very tasty. This pizza reheats well in the air fryer. - Broccolini- we ordered a side of veggies to offset all of the carbs (even though, no shame in eating carbs, just needed some balance). The broccolini is a large, sharable portion, probably enough for 4 people as a side dish. The broccolini is longstemmed and cooked with preserved lemon, garlic, olive oil, and a fantastic compliment to pasta. These reheat well in the microwave. We were clearly stuffed and did not order dessert. We had enough food for an extra meal. Additionally, all of this costed under $300, including tax and tip (and leftovers), which is truly a steal at such a highly coveted, West Loop, restaurant. Also, side note about left overs: They have a system similar to coatcheck for leftovers. When they take the food away, they give you a numbered tag that you can pick up on your way out.
