Well worth the trip!
Visiting Litchfield County for our 10 year anniversary and a quick break from the kids, my wife and I were looking for someplace special. Boy, did we find it! Recommended by the concierge at our hotel, we took a short drive through the hills to Bantam. A little brisk, but the New Englanders didn't mind as we came around the corner to see a few families enjoying ice cream outside in mid-April. Upon entering the restaurant, we were pleasantly greeted by the hostess and ushered across the room. The room was full, the atmosphere lively. There was a window that looked into the kitchen which was as clean as I have ever seen. Seating was comfortable and the menu expansive. It was rather difficult to choose but our server helped us navigate. We finally settled on yellowtail tartare and beef tartare to start, fig and prosciutto flatbread to share, and salmon and duck as our entrees. We received a shooter of melon soup to start which was a nice touch and the Focaccia was divine. Meal was nothing short of exquisite. Service was courteous and professional, my wife has never had better duck. Finished up with the chocolate torte and beignets. Had to get a scoop of the hazelnut chocolate espresso to pair. All around wonderful night, wish it wasn't so far away.

This was a huge disappointment at a very overhyped restaurant. We were expecting a very special evening with exquisite food. What we got was a crowded, tightly seated, and unbearably noisy restaurant. The food was just strange. I would not call it new American. The combinations of ingredients, which they were far too many of, did not go together well. We left very disappointed. For the price point, it was even more disappointing.

Far a special occasion this is the place to go. The service is 1st class and the food is delicious. My steak was superb and my wife's Peking duck was outstanding. Just a word of advice, it is very expensive and a bit out of the way. Having said that it is worth the trip.

Arethusa started as an amazing restaurant. While the food is still quite good, the variety has become tired. Changes in ownership have diminished the quality a bit, and has ended needed changes in menu. This place is quite expensive and while quality has its price, to regular customers the menu gets tired, Service and ambiance are superb, and for occasional diners this place is excellent for the NW CT region.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner and special night out!
Thank you, Arethusa for a terrific dinner and a special night. The service, staff, and food were just exceptional. My husband and I were thrilled to celebrate our special night with all of you. Your attention to detail and the quality of the food were just outstanding. Thank you!!

We were really looking forward to dining at Arethusa for the first time. The wait staff was friendly enough. We were seated at a table toward the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms. The lighting was so dim, we needed flashlights to read the menu. I thought it was odd that they chose to partition off the bar yet left tables exposed to the nauseating glare of people entering and exiting from the excessively lit bathrooms. With no sound dampening present, the noise from other diners was so loud we couldnโt enjoy the dining experience at all since we couldnโt even hear each other speak. We were constantly being bumped by other diners passing behind us on their way to the bathrooms. After waiting for close to an hour and a half for our main courses to arrive, a waiter and Maitre D came to our table to deliver our food. I wouldnโt have minded waiting so long for my dinner to arrive if I could actually have enjoyed the conversation with my husband; fluency in sign language would have been really useful. While the starters were delicious and beautifully plated, the mains were incredibly disappointing. Sadly, we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone nor will we return.

Great food and service. Farm to table done right. The entrees and wine list cannot be topped in ct. Must try.

You donโt have to go to NYC to taste and be treated to excellent food and drink. Just exquisite. Great service ,great atmosphere. Great presentation and taste.
Be the first to ReplyA truly elite restaurant
Everything is exquisite. The qualify of the ingredients, the combinations of ingredients, the presentation, the atmosphere and the service. Even the wine by the glass is excellent. A special recommendation for the yellowtail appetizer, which I believe was new, and the short ribs dinner. But everyone in our group of two couples was pleased with everything ordered. Justine S. was the perfect server. But you do pay for what you are getting.
Be the first to ReplyEvery bite is bliss from this attentive, accommodating, creative kitchen
Booked this reservation for a celebration with a cheese loving spouse. They absolutely loved every single item tried from tartare to cheese board. As a person who is gluten and dairy free I wasnโt expecting many options for myself but I was completely wrong! The waitstaff was well informed on allergies and with the kitchen took great care to accommodate me even with chef tasting bites and a house made gluten-free bread option. Everything was absolutely delicious! The waitstaff provided attentive and impeccable service. Lovely place to go with a small group or as a couple but know that it is busy and can be loud on a weekend night.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a wonderful experience
One of our favorite restaurants in this area. The amuse bouche is always a delight. The bread though, which we prefer is focaccia is no longer served daily with is a shame. Oysters ($26 per half dozen) are always great & fresh. The squash blossoms ($23) were good but not as nice as before (missed the bleu cheese?). The uni toast ($25) was very good. The halibut ($48) is always excellent. Lemon Tart ($16) was ok but not great, but the Malkemus Cookie ($16) was excellent!! Our server Amber is always great!

Americans talk loudly especially when dining .We dined early but still was pleased that I did not hear the staff mention the specials across the room .Service is spot on . We donโt have many choices for fine cuisine in New London county . I first heard of Arethusa while dining in New Haven . The patron referred to it as the best Italian restaurant in CT . After several internet searches I found the place . Only the name is Italian whereas the food is global using seasonal items . Husband enjoyed the uni special followed by the Duck . I loved the ricotta filled squash blossoms . I can not tolerate any seafood so worried they used the same the same vessel with any fried seafood items . They do not . Nailing a reservation is difficult . I suggest looking at open table daily when new dates roll open . As of August the next available reservation is in Oct . I have had to cancel previous reservations so time slots do open . You just need to be diligent. The food was excellent Husband had a choice between a chinon , nebbiolo and a pinot noir with his appetizer . All choices were nice matches . There is an outdoor covered patio dining option and the interior tables are spaced adequately . We travel 50 minutes to dine in New Haven . Husband and I took the scenic route which was the same travel time as he highway since 84 was bottle necked Was not a fan of the lemon tart dessert . It had too much zest or possibly pith was added. Idk . I just sensed it was too bitter . I loved the cherry pignoli choice Yes , it was worth the drive !
Be the first to ReplyThe Ingredients are Amazing!
This is one of the best dining experiences we have had in the post Covid era. The staff are very attentive but the food is the real star. I couldn't believe how fresh the tomatoes, the mint, the vegetables, everything was just right. We had the halibut which melted in your mouth. Also had a marvelous garden flatbread with fresh tomatoes which were like candy. Ice Creams are made on the premises since they have a dairy. The sour cherry ice cream was particularly delicious. A delightful experience from beginning to end. I suggest the patio which is quieter than the restaurant. Tables are space far apart.

I don't write a lot of reviews, only when I'm compelled to because of something so exceptional that I need others to know about it. Arethusa more than qualifies! I was with my dad and my brother celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. Due to the pandemic, this was our first time all being together in 2 years. This was a special evening and so we chose Arethusa because of its great reputation. None of us had had the pleasure of dining there yet and we were so excited. First of all, the staff are obviously top-tier professionals who are clearly well trained in providing 5-star experiences. I've worked in hospitality for 12 years and when I'm impressed, it really means a lot to me. Peter, the General Manager is so accommodating and great to talk to. He knows so much about the restaurant history which is so fun and adds to the experience! Our server, Jenya, was the consummate professional. I've never had a more seamless experience with a server. She was so well-timed with every interaction, and so helpful, observant, and attentive. She was friendly without being intrusive. At one point our table didn't quite hear the details of an item that was brought to our table - just in passing she sensed what was going on and asked if we needed to hear the description again. I mean we were probably confused for half a second before she expertly jumped in and smoothed everything over. Wow! That's an expert right there. Now, the food. Oh. My. GOD. THE FOOD! I will dream about this food forever and ever. Again, this was a special occasion, so we splurged and I have no regrets! We legitimately wanted to order the entire menu because everything just sounded like the most mouthwatering delight. We decided on the pork belly dumplings and the two special appetizers which were the bay scallops and the Flatbread. I can't describe every dish because they were all so intricate, but the special flatbread included an onion jam, Arethusa whole milk ricotta, prosciutto, squash, Arethusa blue cheese, walnuts and shaved brussles... if that sounds like the most perfect balance of flavor delight in one bite, I can assure you - it was! The scallops were out of this world! The pork belly dumplings - mouthwatering. To say we were excited for our entrees is an understatement. How could it get better? I'll tell you how- Seared Pekin Duck Breast, Grilled North Atlantic Swordfish with Avocado Crust, and Braised Beef Short Ribs. We all took our first bites and time slowed down, our senses sharpened, and euphoria set in. Absolute bliss. I've never had duck so perfect, my brother said his short ribs melted in his mouth, and my dad who lives on an island and eats fish daily said the swordfish was the best he's ever had. Stuffed and completely satisfied, when Jenya asked about dessert, we all knew we couldn't eat another bite, and proceeded to order 3 desserts! ๐ DO NOT SKIP DESSERT! My dessert was the cookie and ice cream- the chocolatey brownie-esq cookies had that fresh-baked right out of the oven quality combined with far from basic vanilla ice cream- I couldn't have asked for a better dessert. My brother had the pineapple mango tart- so refreshing and bright, dad ordered the after dinner mint brownie cake and was in heaven. By the end of the night we felt like family with the staff and floated out the doors on cloud-9 as if under a magical spell of delight. Believe the hype! This place is the real deal. Don't try to be frugal or think about your waistband... indulge, treat yourself, and love every minute of it!

I have experienced Al Tavolo many times and have never been disappointed. Itโs been a special place to dine since theyโve opened. My favorite dish from recent visits has to be the duck! It doesnโt hurt having house made ice cream to finish off the night. Itโs my favorite restaurant in the area!

This restaurant is overrated and not worth the drive for diners who live far away. It is difficult to even categorize the type of cuisine served. It's neither here nor there. I object most to the chef's recipes and the combination of ingredients. There are too many flavors and you can't even taste the fundamental ingredient of the dish. This is not a restaurant for serious foodies.
