Wonderful & creative dinner, beautifully presented, great atmosphere & service
Wonderful dinner and terrific experience for an evening out with our adult son and his new wife, approaching their first anniversary. Each course was delicious, beautifully presented, and sometimes featuring unexpected combinations of ingredients that worked so nicely together (e.g. fresh oyster with beef emulsion, sudachi, seagrapes, kefir lime and an additional sweet acidic note of tomatoey vinegar). Overarching all was excellent, friendly and attentive service in a modern, comfortable (and refreshingly well-lit!) decor with particular warmth and humor from Cesar, whose service, knowledge and amiable manner added greatly to the evening. We're out for dinner quite a bit, living in a "foodie" town ourselves (Portland, Maine, USA) and have the fortunate experience of having eaten in many Michelin-starred restaurants over the years around the world, so what stands out to us at Arzak is that they've mastered with clear confidence the highest elements of elegant fine dining while somehow creating a more comfortable, natural and approachable atmosphere and avoiding the sometimes intense, serious and rehearsed feeling of other excellent Michelin-starred restaurants. Even in San Sebastian, where there are so many excellent dining options at all levels, Arzak is clearly among the highest. Look forward to returning!

The genius of feeding the body, mind and spirit is the gift the 50+ kitchen staff serves up at this legendary restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing all round.
First time visit, whilst in Spain for a holiday. A really excellent place to eat in and spend time with the family 100% recommend.
Be the first to ReplyBest tasting menu in San Sebastiรกn.
My first tasting menu experience and would 100% recommend. Service from start to finish was 5 star and the personal touch of meeting Chef Elena made the whole experience even better. Every course was exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyWhatโs not to like about this restaurant? It has 3 stars for a reason, everything is exceptional.
I visited this restaurant in December 2022, whilst staying in San Sebastiรกn. The restaurant, food and services was of the highest standard. As one would expect the menus was explained and each course was destinies along with the wine choices. I opted for the tasting menu with paired wine. Everything that was put in front of me was exceptional. However I have a penchant for salt and requested some to go with the bread and olive oil. Elena came to ask if everything was okay, I was almost embarrassed to say I liked a little extra salt. Within minutes 3 different types of salt were served, brilliant!! I also added a little extra to the marbled egg, eggs always need extra salt? This addition, in my opinion, turned an amazing dish into the most amazing dish on the menu!!! It was then funny to hear the lady sat at the table next to me say to Elena that the food was too salty?? What do we know?? Weโll done to all involved in such a fantastic restaurant, Iโll be back with my wife the next time weโre in San Sebastiรกn. x
Be the first to ReplyWonderful memories made in this absorbing unique gastronomic experience
Arzak was an unforgettable experience. We went last night expecting and anticipating great food. But we were blown away at what was a life changing experience that was mind, body and soul. The atmosphere is peaceful, giving you time and space and enables you to focus on the incredible food. The staff were passionate and knowledgeable about all aspects of the food and wine. The owner came out to speak to us and was so warm and welcoming. It was my birthday and kindly I came away with a cake. We placed the trip for a long time and it was worth the wait. I cannot thank the restaurant enough for giving us these wonderful memories. Much love and thanks.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the trip to Spain!
My husband and I were originally scheduled in March 2020 for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Three years later we finally made it to Arzak. We have sincerely never ever had an experience like this. The delightful chef/staff demonstrated a passion for food and service that was superior. Arzak is a true experience of interacting with the story put forth by the each perfectly curated and executed dish. We wondered after three years of waiting would it live up to the hype in our minds? Indeed it exceeded our expectations and we look forward to returning some future day. Literally worth the entire trip to Spain!! Thank you Arzak for your hospitality and such a special belated anniversary ๐

What an amazing experience! The food was so good and each meal so wonderfully explained by staff. You must go if you can get a booking, it was well worth the visit. Every course so tasty and full of flavour! I will never forget it!
Be the first to ReplyA beautiful dining experience
What a beautiful dining experience! Arzak was exceptional - quality of food and staff were what you would expect for a three starred restaurant! The staff were very attentive and friendly. There was flexibility with the tasting menu if you were not happy with the dishes, ie for allergies, food intolerances or just preferences. Each dish on the tasting menu was delicious! My husband who does not generally eat seafood loved all dishes and chose the monkfish as his favourite dish! Attention to detail and care put into each dish came through!
Be the first to ReplyThe joy of Elena Arzak
The experience at Arzak was absolutely incredible! Elena Arzak is the best chef I have experienced and is a treat to meet and speak with. Her food is creative and delicious from first to last bite. My personal favorite was mackerel with candied coriander which set the taste buds tingling. โenigmaโ was exactly that! The most interesting palate cleanser I have ever experienced. The wine pairing was exceptional and taught a great deal about the joy of Spanish wine. All the staff were lovely, attentive but not stuffy which is always a pleasure in a 3 star Michelin restaurant. I believe more stars are deserved! If you genuinely want a treat, this is it.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious as expected
Sometimes there is a tendency to be disappointed with the 3 starred restaurants as you hear so much about them and then comes the let down. This was not one of those cases. The tasting menu was perfect. Service was perfect and so was the wine selection. They showed flexibility if you were not satisfied with a specific dish. Generous and tasteful.

It was great experience, definitively we felt from beginning as special guests with home atmosphere. Spectacular food with amazing wine pairing, the chief was involved in every guest.
Be the first to ReplyOur biggest dining disappointment ever!!!!
My wife and I attended the restaurant on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is not in the best location (dual carriage way out of the main town) and in the room we were seated in (I assume the main room downstairs) it is a very boring room with no view in what seems a throw back to 1980s dining. The tables felt very close together, to the point that I had already heard the dishes described twice before we reached the same course on the tasting menu. I felt sorry for the poor couple on the centre of the room as they had someone pass them every minute of their meal. I have posted a picture of the room for reference (when empty at the end of the evening). Also note, the carpets were not clean / looked slightly grubby at the edges. However, location is not everything and we were still hoping for an amazing food experience. We were seated and given two menus. To say they were not placed on the table with any love is not an exaggeration. What is disappointing is (i) they were photocopies and (ii) the explanation went like thisโฆ. here is the tasting menu and here is the tasting menu with wine. If you have the one with wine ($411 euros per head) then you cannot choose between the courses (unlike the tasting menu where there was an option for pigeon or lamb on one of the courses). But that was it! We looked at each other like OMG we have come to this supposed amazing restaurant and been given basically have this or have this. if you did not want us there, then do not accept the booking (and our money!). Anyway, we were confident that the food would make it all worthwhile. We have eaten and numerous one and two starred restaurants, but never a three. Sadly this was perhaps our second worst meal of any Michelin starred restaurant we have ever eaten. I still would not say we have eaten in a three and I am surprised it has more than one, compared to others we have eaten at. The pre courses were well presented and were quite tasty, although nothing to blow the mind / wow you innovation wise. For the main courses, I have added pictures, but the pictures look better than the taste sadly. For the unclothed prawn we were instructed that we could eat the tail and also suck the head of the prawn as part of the introduction to the dish. I would advise against this. The tail tasted exactly as you expect, of nothing; with your mouth filled with sharp unpleasant thin shell. The head of the prawn was tasteless and also not a nice experience. The Marbled Egg course lacked taste and was at a temperature that felt like it had been sitting for too long. The Monkfish course was enjoyable. I am not a fan of monkfish normally, but this was very well prepared with great taste The lamb course was OK, but given it is a 3-star restaurant, I would have expected something maybe with a greater depth of flavour; or maybe I am expecting too much? The two dessert courses were pleasant (aside from the avocado ice cream which was grainy and did not have a nice taste - but I accept that this is a perhaps a personal taste issue โ even though I love avocados normally). However, again, do I expect too much, but these deserts were pretty safe and boring / had no wow factor at all. After desserts there were two petit fours each, served on a very plastic looking branch (it reminded me of my sons Playmobile cave man set). Overall, as you can probably tell the meal was hugely disappointing. Now were we unlucky? I would like to think so, but I just cannot see it. If I think through the key aspects of our evening: โข The setting is not very nice at all โข The service, whilst pleasant, started off very badly โข The food was actually unpleasant at times and did not have any of the wow factor that I have seen in even 1 star places We were so excited to be going to our first 3 star restaurant and now we feel so deflated. If this is truly a three star restaurant then the judges should visit places many of the one and two star restaurants are regrade them, as their taste, innovation and all over experience are far superior.
Be the first to ReplySpectacular meal in San Sebastian
We (2 couples) recently returned from San Sebastian and Basque area. Arzak was one of the highlight of our trip. It was simply perfection in every way. From the moment you arrive until the minute you leave - you are treated like a King or Queen. The service is attentive, informative, hard working and polite. The food was perfection Every single course exceeded expectations. The decor is subtle and beautiful. We were extremely impressed with every detail. The chef came out to say hello and chatted with us for a few moments - and this was a lovely detail. The local Spanish wines were really delicious and the sommelier was helpful as well. A memorable evening was had by us all and I can only say Gracias!!!

For a 3-star this place was more unformal and relaxed. The menu very well balanced as you might expect. So glad this restaurant survived trough the pandemia and that we could finally make our visit after two years planning. An experience to remember for years to come.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant evening
Truly super experience from initial greeting to calling our taxi . Attentive and knowledgeable service - special mention to fabulous sommelier Shua and waitress Amaya . Lovely to speak to chef Elena and the food and wine really exceptional .Quality ingredients treated with respect and complemented with great wine list which does not exploit . Really loved our experience and hope to return . Thank you Team Arzak
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely outstanding - we loved it
An explosion of the senses with an exceptional hospitality like among friends. The very charming chef Elena, who has taken over the restaurant after 25 years of accompanying her father, creates with her warm manner and an excellent team a warm and friendly atmosphere that is unparalleled. The interplay of exquisitely and artistically impressively presented delicacies gave us great pleasure. We will be thinking about these creations for years to come and can be more than grateful for this unique gourmet experience.

Whenever we are in San Sebastian (Donostia), Spain, we dine at Arzak. This restaurant is truly a restaurant not to miss when in San Sebastian. We have dined here many times over the years. The multi-course meal is artwork. Every dish was savory and perfect in every way. Elena Arzak has not only taken the helm from her father, but has elevated the dining experience to another level.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent but not the best 3 star Michelin I went to in 2021
You canโt really fault a 3 Star Michelin restaurant, the food was outstanding, creative and entertaining, the service was impeccable and the chat with the chef educational. However, you can rate one 3 star Michelin against another and for me eating at Quique Dacosta the same year was a clear winner. So, only 4 for Arzak to reflect that.
