What can I say, the food was good and the service was great but nothing was that special. For just under $1000 we received 3 seafood, 4 veg (inc 1 ‘ant’), 3 desert but JUST only 1 meat dish paired with wine.
I wish I had come here a few years ago, the food now seems a little uncreative using things like honey in dishes for sweetness and finger limes for sour. The restaurant now seems like they are just riding off their 3 hats and expect you to pay $320pp (without wines), for things like 2 different types of oyster dishes, mini blinis with sour cream and honey with bits of ant that don’t really do anything, marron with claws i had to crack myself and a farewell block of caramel made with crocodile fat that really didn’t do anything to alter it’s taste. There were a few uses of native ingredients but I think it lacked in demonstrating the wide range of Australian ingredients and native techniques used.
High point of the night, the tomato toasted sourdough dish and front of house service.
Low point of the night, receiving 1 meat dish (even a meat snack in the first few courses would have been nice) so only 1 glass of red the whole night, the back ‘garden’ not actually being a garden at all and not as many native ingredients used as I would have expected.
So to recap, if you are looking to have a fancy night out, don’t care too much about what food your getting but expect quality food and service then this is the place to go. If you are looking for a culinary experience and have your palate tested then look elsewhere.
