Absolutely perfect steak tartare, done at the table and with samples provided to get the "heat" just right for all four of us. Surroundings are first rate for that medieval gem experience. Don't miss it. And check out the skinny fries.
Be the first to ReplyNice French food in a restaurant.
located in a (ancient) prison. You can even sleep in some cells, hum, rooms.Food is delicious, mussels, lamb, mussels, fennel mousse, oysters, the beef was tender, everything perfectly cooked, desserts to die, great and friendly staff, French wines (ha...the Corbieres from the French actor Pierre Richard..). Price little bit "expensive" but it seriously deserve it. Go there guys, it's a Basel Jewel.

We were a party of three people for dinner, and reserved beforehand.Ambience: French classic design with a lot of wood. they have old maps hanging around from france and switzerland which are pretty cool. and theres a huge painting of paris in the restaurant where you can see the eiffel tower! Food: I tasted the Salad with goat cheese, very delicious!afterwards some tartar, very well made and you even got a litte taste before the serving, so you can say if you like it that way or what else you want to change.and the beef filet with the fries, which was very good and the chef made it like you wished. (mine was medium)Service: Well organised. The timing was very good eventhough they got all table full. Friendly and attentive.Overall a very good restaurant, with very good food. I recommend it for everybody which is visiting Basel and wants to experience french food in a good location. Fun fact: The restaurant/hotel used to be an old prison before

This is an excellent restaurant for a date, very charming atmosphere in an old building near town center. The food is very good, nice broad selection, and everything was nicely cooked with the amount of creativity that you expect from a French cuisine.Service is friendly and nice. ย Overall, a very good experience.

Beautiful, cozy restaurant in an interesting, historic setting. Yes, it's a former prison, but no, there are no remnants of that to be seen (or at least from what I could tell.) The service is attentive and friendly, the food is delicious, and the wine list (focusing on quite a few French reds) is well-priced (for Switzerland...) As the starter, I had a perfect, lightly-dressed, salad with bacon and a poached egg. Superb! My entree was the fried monkfish (think upscale fish sticks - in the best possible way) with pomme frites. All well done. It was a rare occasion, but my group was too full for dessert or the cheese plate. Still, this place is worth a return trip.
