Auberge du Cheval Blanc Lembach Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent
A very big thank you for the welcome and the quality of our stay. I have already done several one-star reviews and to this day I don't understand why this one lost its star. I booked it wanting to eat in a two-star hotel for the first time. After learning of the loss of a star I hesitated to cancel. What a good thing we did to keep our reservation. For me you fully deserve your second star. I hope you get it back very quickly. Thank you again for the quality of the meal. Samuel
Enchantment
We were able to enjoy this place for 48 hours taking advantage of the spa as well as 2 dinners. We were surprised by the quality and presentation of the dishes as well as the absolutely discreet service. This questions us about the qualities of the Michelin guide who dared to remove a star from this establishment recently when all the services offered are largely worthy of it. Moreover, compared to 2 one-star restaurants visited recently in Bas-Rhin there must be an error because the quality of Cheval Blanc is so superior
Dream Michelin-starred restaurant, where every customer is in heaven
For our wedding anniversary, we wanted to mark this event at the White Horse. We have unforgettable memories of it, it’s a dream restaurant. The place and the dining room are magnificent with their well-decorated and soothing setting; the service is impeccable, well orchestrated, discreet and intentional; the meal with surprises is perfect with starter, fish, meat and dessert: each dish constitutes a work of art and through taste and presentation, which is savored as much with the eyes as with the mouth. we can only congratulate the teams in the kitchen and in the dining room, an agreement and organization without any false note. The prices are largely justified and reflect the excellence of this restaurant. The Auberge du Cheval Blanc offers services at least equal to restaurants with 2 Michelin stars.
Uninspired, boring cuisine... (Macaron rightly lost)
We had booked a "Séjour Étoilé" package (2x B&B, spa including 6 and 8 course menus on 2 evenings.... Check-in was uncomplicated and friendly... The room was spacious with a minibar, TV, large bathroom, separate toilet and free-standing bathtub in the living area... Unfortunately, the wine glasses provided had water stains, the bed frame had numerous dents and scratches and the walls had black marks (from suitcases or similar) otherwise the room was clean and tidy... The building with the surrounding grounds and garden are nicely decorated and there are enough parking spaces in the back yard... The spa is small but nice, pool a bit too cold for our taste... Steam baths and sauna, however, are "nice to have" The glass fronts facing the garden were very dirty... Breakfast with fresh croissants, marinated salmon, juices etc. as well as a small buffet was good and everyone found something suitable... Unfortunately no egg dishes... Unfortunately We were not impressed by the kitchen and the menus on either evening. The service was attentive and friendly but seemed tense... The information about the individual courses was rolled out carelessly.. The aperitifs were irrelevant and boring... Spring rolls very greasy, Rilette appetizers too pleasant Char OK Foie gras dipped far too thick Horseradish mousse and pear bland in greasy cornetto Unidentifiable ball Crispy bread, very good but a small dollop of salted butter without a follow-up service for the whole evening?? The homemade pretzel rolls were very doughy and firm... Nobody needs the vegetable tartare with sorbet, foam and coutons Bland and boring... Crab with cucumber mousse, apple gel was OK (nothing earth-shattering), but was served with mushy fake caviar... For the ravioli with truffle emulsion, far too thick Perigod truffle was shaved at the table... An insane amount of truffle oil/aroma was used in the foam, which covered everything up... The scallop course with crispy green asparagus, apple and keta caviar was quite good, but the nage could have done with a bit of acidity and the herb oil could have been used more sparingly. The cooking point was very good.. The fish course was OK, but there were endless product repetitions.. Green asparagus again, Nage again, herb oil again.... The same sorbet with salt foam and pumpkin crisps was served on both evenings.. The duck breast HG was lukewarm, the skin was leathery and not crispy, with overcooked red cabbage (in spring?), two types of gel or puree, mushroom tartlet... A jus was poured on at the table which was helped along with stock powder/MSG... (Seriously??) On the second evening, poultry was served again with the HG... Also with sloppy skin, the same tartlet as the night before, not crispy fries soufflé, a scoop of mushroom duxelle and dried puree on the plate (it must have been standing around at the pass for some time). The foie gras sauce also had MSG character... The cheese from the trolley was ripe and delicious, unfortunately hardly any explanation of its origin or Affineur... Both desserts were good. Roasted pineapple with lemongrass and baba .. nice balance, acidity, melting .. The crispy cannelloni with mousse and candied chestnuts was also balanced and tasty... The selected wines were good, drinkable and the price/performance ratio was right... The petit fours and digestif (whiskey/rum and espresso on both evenings were great, the macarons were particularly noteworthy... however, the good finish cannot disguise two weak menus, we had expected more.... Unfortunately, we have to agree with the guide's decision (to deny a macaron)... The price level is overall perfectly fine/appropriate and the service was also largely satisfactory but the kitchen leaves a lot of room for improvement... The details and subtleties are simply not right... There is a need for more innovation! We wish the whole team and the house all the best but will not visit again for the time being... And cannot give any recommendations...
Exceptional table
Exceptional table In the Top 3 of Alsace Friendly welcome, professional and discreet staff Extraordinary menu Come and return Well done to the chef and his staff Good luck in “taking back” the star
Always a treat for the eyes and taste buds
Once again we had an excellent evening enhanced with refined dishes. The cooking was perfect, the combinations delicate, the service discreet and efficient. A great moment of happiness in a beautiful establishment.
Disheartening Experience
I had high hopes for a memorable experience, having eagerly reserved a table for four two months in advance. Upon arrival, our party was unexpectedly turned away, encountering a front desk clerk whose demeanor was less than accommodating. Despite providing documentation, including an email confirmation received the night before, indicating our reservation, we were met with a series of dismissive and unfounded claims. The front desk clerk asserted that the reservation : 1) had been canceled by me, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Then 2) accusations of a reservation at a different location (we showed her an email to the contrary) , then 3) unfounded claims of lateness (corrected by our confirmed reservation time), and 4) an unsupported assertion that credit card information was never shared, leading to the alleged cancellation by them. Is your head spinning yet? This women came up with reason upon reason EACH TIME AFTER BEINEG PROVEN otherwise as to why there was no table for us. She grew nastier and nastier each time we corrected her claims. Despite presenting this 'proof' of our reservation, the front desk clerk remained argumentative, unprofessional, unapologetic, and unfriendly. To emphasize, I have never encountered such a level of poor customer service in a fine dining establishment, and this experience has left a lasting negative impression. Our party traveled for hours and made reservations two months in advance with the expectation of enjoying a two-star Michelin restaurant. The rude and dismissive behavior encountered is beyond comprehension, with no apology or recognition of the evident flaws in the reservation system. In summary, this experience was a disgrace and not what you would expect form a Michelin-starred establishment.
Bad management
Prior to our visit to Auberege du Cheval, we received several emails from various sources including Michelin and the restaurant itself. We provided our credit card information as requested. Upon our arrival, a rude member of staff told us our reservation did not exist. Despite showing our confirmation email, she claimed we did not provide credit card details. We then showed her the email proving otherwise. She eventually admitted her mistake but never apologized. No alternative arrangements were offered. The chef's wife came out and admitted the mistake but still did not apologize or compensate her. It is disappointing that a Michelin starred restaurant can provide such poor service. The lack of professionalism and customer care makes me question the value of Michelin ratings.
In need of service training and a new visit by Michelin
We booked a table for four at Auberege du Cheval Blanc through the Fork. We received numerous emails prior to our visit from The Fork, Michelin and from Auberege du Cheval prior to our visit. This included a request for a credit card information which we provided. We then even received a confirmation email from the restaurant the day before our visit. To our astonishment, upon our arrival, we were met by a curt and dismissive young woman who flatly denied our reservation. Insisting that we must have mistaken the establishment, she refused to acknowledge our confirmation email. When we presented irrefutable evidence of our booking, she shifted her stance, claiming that we had not provided our credit card information. Again, we produced the confirmation email, which clearly stated otherwise. Despite our unwavering politeness and repeated requests for any form of accommodation, the women at the desk never cracked a smile, never apologized for any mistakes even as we had shown proof of our reservation for that date and that seating (December 17, 2023). She continued with a self-righteous attitude in the face of documentation to the contrary. She then begrudgingly got the Chef’s wife to come out. This time only with acknowledgement of their errors. Not once was there an I’m sorry uttered or any apology or reparation made. No offer of attending a different date, no accommodation of any sort. I truly find it shocking that an establishment with such a lack of service or quality of management has earned a Michelin Star. A Michelin Star used to carry a level of service and professionalism as well as the quality of the food and dining experience. I am saddened that I feel I can no longer depend on a Michelin Guide rating.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
