Go. You’ll enjoy it.
A great restaurant near the heart of Mexico city. Situated in what must be a house from the 17th or 18th century, the restaurant has a great vibe, and great food. The guacamole is fantastic, and the enchiladas con mote poblano were to die for. Recommended.

This is a fantastic place for Comida in Mexico City. The setting is amazing in a leafy courtyard filled with candles and ambiance. The food and presentation was superb. The service was attentive but not overpowering. The tequila was…. Highly recommended for a lingering experience.
Be the first to ReplyFive outta Five for this romantic restaurant in historic setting
Found this named by Travel & Leisure as one of the city's best.... and it was on the main floor of the Downtown Hotel where we stayed. Ate there twice in four days. Romantic setting, low lighting, colonial courtyard atmosphere, CLOTH napkins!, potted trees’ limbs overhanging the tables. Dine al fresco in good weather. Excellent array of regional Mexican dishes. Full bar. you can watch a cook pats masa into tortillas. Reservations recommended (tho in our case arriving at 5:30 or 6pm there were a couple tables available). This location is about a 5-10 minute walk from the Zocalo and near all the sites you want to see in Mexico City. Starts with included sopa marisco; I had manchamanteles -- duck w a sweet mole of ancho chile w pineapple, apple, pear and plantains; my husband had “Legendary Black Mole from Oaxaca” w chicken breast. The next night we shared enchiladas w mole and pork tacos pibil. … I ate half of his. Service excellent.

Azul Histórico is an attractive restaurant with an interior courtyard where trees form a canopy above you. Candles hang from the branches, creating a beautiful atmosphere. Our food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Our waiter, Juan, was attentive and helpful. We joked later in the evening that if someone would have dropped a napkin, he would have caught it before it hit the ground. He made the evening special for all of us. While not inexpensive, we thought the combination of excellent food, service and atmosphere made it a bargain.

Azul Historico was recommended both by our hotel and by our guidebook and having looked at the menu online in advance, we were both looking forward to it. Whilst the food was good, the evening was spoilt by the over speedy service. Our waiter asked us four or five times if we were ready to order before we’d had a chance to go through the menu. Having ordered, the starter turned up almost immediately and the main courses before we had eaten less than half of the starter. We continued with the starter and the main courses were cold by the time we were ready for them. Our waiter was also keen to whisk the plates/glasses away before we had finished. The setting of the restaurant is lovely but we wanted to savour the experience and weren’t really given a chance to. Both the food and the drinks are on the expensive side.
Be the first to ReplyWarning: Tourist Trap!!
Azul Historico attracts hordes of hungry guests day after day for unknown reasons. It's utterly baffling because the food is nearly inedible, the prices are outrageously high, and in January, you freeze under the open sky. We've had several meals in Mexico City, and this was by far the worst and most expensive. Additionally, the timing was terrible, and the servers were rude. - Guacamole - the worst ever; tasteless and lacking acidity. - Ceviche - the worst ever; large flavorless fish pieces. - Enchiladas - the worst ever; swimming in an inedible sauce. About the timing: 10 minutes before the starters were served, a waiter came and threw the napkin that was on my plate into my lap. As if I don't know when it's time to remove the napkin. Later - we were only halfway through the starters when the main courses were placed on the table, and they were lukewarm by the time we got to them. However, as mentioned, they were inedible. We ended up leaving half of all the expensive food, and in a surprisingly short time, the table was cleared. Were we interested in desserts? No thanks - just the bill, please. In addition to these dishes, we each ordered 1 glass of house white wine (excellent), and the bill for all this misery crept up to just under 1,800 pesos. A scandal. We asked to pay by card. The waiter entered the amount on the machine and now asked how much he could add for a tip. We exclaimed in unison: No tip! The waiter raised an eyebrow in shock and almost screamed in horror: NO TIP?? It was the highlight of the evening. Don't be fooled by the charming ambiance. Azul Historico is a top-notch tourist trap. And the prices should be reported to the police.

Amazing food and wonderful service in a stunning setting. The chipotle prawns were delicious. A bit more expensive than most restaurants in cdmx but worth it!

The ambience was anazing. The servers were highly professional. The presentation beautiful. We had the classic guacamole, tortilla soup and enchiladas mole. My only regret is I was so full, I could not enjoy dessert. The tortilla soup really is something to rave about. The bowl and lid in which it came in was beautiful. I insist you order the tortilla soup, you will not be disappointed. Our waiter was Julio. We had a wonderful female server and I deeply regret that I did not get her name for this review. But both were highly professional in presentation and in serving us. The hostess was very professional as well. I’ve eaten at restaurants all over the world. Azul has become one of top restaurants I’ve ever eaten at.
Be the first to ReplyDon't eat here. Mediocre food at high price. Choose another place for your special occasion!
Don't eat here. The prices are very high; the food is not good. We had a bad tamal and immediately let the sever know. They refused to make it right; it was a long discussion and really gave a sour taste to our evening. We paid $150 USD for a mediocre meal, and unfortunately dismissive service. Save your money and get a better meal elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyClassic Mexican Food!
This is a classic, real Mexican food restuarant. The food is great as is the service. They have a great mezcal menu and the wait staff is very helpful in choosing just the right one. The soup is served in an interesting bowl with a skeleton cover. The ambiance is beautiful and intimate. Do not miss this classic Mexico City venue!
Be the first to ReplyThe classic mexican restaurant with some epic dishes!
Book ahead! Order the tortilla soup (even if it’s the only thing you do, thank me later). Beautiful restaurant! Will always come back to this space
Be the first to ReplyCuisine and service superb
I had read about Azul Historico so I expected to walk into a patio. What I did not expect was a full restaurant that looked like all of its customers were not locals. I wondered what it meant that the restaurant lacked obvious locals. I should not have worried. We ordered the justly famous duck fritters with a mole sauce and also empanadas with chopped shrimp. We finished with a deliciously light chocolate cake with ice cream and with a fruit with a chocolate sauce. Our waiter Mario was absolutely superb. He carefully presented each dish as a single course and, as we requested, served each of us one half of the ordered dish He did this warmly and elegantly.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious mole in a beautiful setting
You first get enchanted by this beautiful inner garden setting, with candle lights hanging from the trees, and a lovely lady busy making tacos. But this is not all: we ordered a ceviche and a turkey mole and it was truly delicious. Not easy to find moles on a manu so I was glad that my turkey mole was full of wonderful flavors and cooked to perfection

Azul Historico was referred to me by my hotel concierge. The place looked grand inside, as well as safe as security is at the front and all staff wear masks. However, the quality of the food was masked by the beautiful pottery and service showmanship. The guacamole was bland and too creamy that it seemed like it was off the shelf. The pork tacos (tacos de lechon) were decent but you overpay for mediocrity.

The building; the ambiance; the service; the food; the wine all come together like a beautiful symphony to create an amazing dining experience!
Be the first to Replyoverprices, very very small portions, nothing special, rude service at entrance
The service was very rude for the front receptionist. Very arrogant. Next the portions were very tiny. I mean tiny. Incredibly tiny. The cost was very expensive relative to the size of the portions. Two soups and guacamole were 600 MX including tip. The Guacamole was serve in a small container 2 inches round. The soup had very little vegi's or chicken in it. This is an over rated gringo place. Gringos from condesa love to take their mother here for a Mexican experience. But it is not worth the money.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
We wanted to like this place. The location and atmosphere are great, but the rest was so disappointing... Details: The good: The building is gorgeous, the table settings are very pretty and the menu reads well. The meh: the food (tortilla soup, guac, enchiladas) tasted bland. The guac was totally mushy (blender processed) and had very little seasoning, the dominant flavor in the tortilla soup was tomato paste, and so on. The bad: Service was simply bad - the servers clearly aimed to maximize sale of expensive items and "forgot" other asks. We asked for a water bottle and two glasses, we got one glass; a request for another glass was ignored. We asked three times for a kid's lemonade - it never arrived, but was listed on the bill and only grudgingly removed from it. The weirdest part was the server at the end repeatedly asking how much tip we were planning to give and insisting we add it to the credit card charge (i understand that the tip if paid by card needs to be typed in, but it really needs to be up to the customer's discretion). All in all - overhyped.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the price of the hassle
My previous visit to Azul historical was wonderful. It has changed dramatically. The menu is limited, the food mediocre, the prices fairly high. It’s dark inside in the shops that surround at the restaurant are not as interesting as they used to be. We were three families in a group of 10 and asked for three separate checks. Flat out refused and just told us to split bill equally at end of meal. Filter de res (495 pesos) was small and room cold but properly cooked to medium rare. We were seated near the kitchen which was fine but it seem like all the waiters in the restaurant hung out there waiting for their orders to be ready from the chef. Will not return
Be the first to Replyfantastic place
We really enjoyed both of our two meals at this restaurant. They have interesting food which is a bit unusual, delicious but also not just typical dishes. The setting is absolutely beautiful, in an open courtyard with lovely lights. Excellent drinks too. It was a bit hard to find, because it is entered through an archway from the road, so take your map with you. We asked a couple of people for directions, they did not seem to know what they were talking about. Opposite the Spanish casino
Be the first to ReplyMexican Fine Dinning
This restaurant is amazing. Well thought out and beautifully designed. The cuisine is authentic Mexican. The menu changes often to pay homage to different regions of Mexico. The bar is impressive with wine, tequila and mezcal assortment that will surely satisfy most. There’s an army of impeccably dressed servers who pay attention to detail and a beautifully dressed woman making the best tortillas I personally have ever had. Plenty of Vegetarian options! At night the ambiance is just stunning. Highly recommended.

Beautiful location. The food was perfectly prepared and the service was unbelievable. Absolutely impeccable. My son ordered duck wontons with thick mole sauce. So good. I have nothing but praise for Azul Historico and would go again.

Wonderful location in the inner courtyard of a hotel, very atmospheric. Food was also wonderful. Getting a menu win English was a little challenging, but we eventually succeeded.
Tortilla soup was great and the presentation terrific.
Waiters were helpful.
Wonderful ambiance and great food
We dined at Azul Historico on our recent trip to Mexico. Had to try going over twice because the first time they had long waits. Very glad we went again. Beautiful setting inside a courtyard filled with trees and candles, giving it an almost magical appearance. The food was very tasty, and the service was great. I had the most delicious Totilla Soup ever, served in a very imaginative way. Loved this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyLovely venue with delicious food and professional staff
Located in the Historic area not far from the Zocalo. The restaurant is located in what appeared to be a courtyard of a hostel/hotel. It was beautifully lit up with a buzzy atmosphere. The staff were very professional. The food was excellent. In our case we ate the Grouper with a Chipolte sauce. There were two menus and you could select from either. This was one of my favourite places out of about 7 restaurants we ate at in Mexico City.
