Bavette’s 💥💥💥
Great reviews, from friends and acquaintances, drew us to Babette’s. Needless to say, it lived up to all the hype or I wouldn’t bother wring a review. Our reservation was at 3:15pm - because we were 2 days late on making a reservation based on their 21 day reservation cycle. The Japanese whisky old fashioned was unique and smooth (I’d try that again), and the Champaign Smash (gin / Champaign…) was just as good. We ordered sourdough bread and butter in addition to shrimp scampi and a wedge salad as appetizers. The shrimp were BIG, buttery and HOT. The mains were aged NY Strip and filet mignon with truffle mac & cheese and roasted brussels sprouts. The steaks were cooked to perfection based on our varied request. The brussels sprouts were good, but the mac & cheese may have been the best I’ve ever tried - creamy, not too savory. Dessert consisted of chocolate pie with cream. The semi-sweet cream offset the rich, dark chocolate pie, and a cappuccino only enhanced it all. I’d definitely eat here again.

Great atmosphere and setting .Amazing mixologists, fantastic food and good value . Highly recommended. Central Chicago . I would suggest making a reservation in advance, particularly at the weekend or close to the weekend .
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, even better food!
Loved the drinks, atmosphere and food! The wedge salad is the best wedge we’ve ever had. Homemade ranch dressing with fresh herbs, peppercorns and bacon. The bacon was thick, more like pork belly, with an excellent flavor. I had the bone-in filet and my husband had the rib eye. The filet was better in our opinion. If you’re a fan of mushrooms, order them! They come with French fried onions served on top. The food is very rich so just know that going in. It was fabulous on a blustery, cold Chicago Friday night. Can’t wait to go back!

Bavette's never disappoints! The food and drinks are incredible and consistently on point. Some of our favorites and not to be missed: Bacon, Wedge Salad, French Dip, Short Rib Stroganoff, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and of course the steaks are delicious and always cooked to perfection. Our favorite drinks are the Bavette's Punch and Tokyo Old Fashioned, although you can't go wrong as they're all well-made and balanced.
Be the first to ReplyIt was just ok — very heavy food.
The restaurant has nice ambiance & decor, but the food was just ok. Based on the reviews, we expected so much better. The shrimp scampi was too spicy & the butter it was cooked in had too much lemon in it. The goat cheese had some sort of honey mixed in with it, which ruined the goat cheese taste for me. The crab avocado salad was just ok. For entrees, I ordered the prime beef sandwich. It was just ok. My husband ordered the wagu NY strip steak. That was good. For sides, the mushrooms were really good, but you can’t eat too much of it because it is very rich/heavy. The truffle Mac & cheese was good, but again very creamy/heavy so you can’t eat too much of it. Perhaps we should have tried the seafood.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite! But book within minutes of the dates being released! And order the mushrooms!!
Family trip to Chicago and this was on the top of our list to try. It certainly didn’t disappoint. As soon as you walk in, you are transported by the beautiful ambiance. Every staff member was so kind, professional, and helpful. You can feel the pride of the food. We ordered the sourdough, roasted chicken, dutches cut tenderloin, asparagus, mushrooms, & chocolate pie. Everything was outstanding and huge portions! The mushrooms might have even been the favourite, if you can believe it! My steak was a bit under what I ordered (medium well) and they were so kind and professional in fixing that for me very quickly. As well, they brought a delicious gelato and hot fudge on the house for celebrating a birthday. Thanks Bavette’s!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best in Chicago
I visited Chicago to celebrate my sons 26th birthday and this was his choice for a special dinner. I got a reservation 21 days beforehand at exactly 9am and was lucky to secure a 6:45 table in the bar area, which was a dimly lit special spot downstairs. We loved it! We started with some sourdough and the most amazing peppered bacon with roasted tomato and watercress salad! If I couldve eaten this salad as an entree I wouldve been happy. It went great with the wine and espresso martini we ordered. For entrees, my daughter and I both had the lobster frites, which was superb..the bernaise sauce complemented the lobster perfectly and the fries were delish too. My son had his first experience with a wagyu bone in NY strip steak, which he absolutely loved. He also had the asparagus and fries. For dessert, out lovely server overheard it was my sons birthday and brought over some ice cream with a candle which was so nice, but we also ordered an absolutely huge ice cream sundae that had every candy and topping imaginable, and we also got the carrot cake. All were amazing. The service was great and loved the vibe. One of my favorite meals of all time! It was pricey..over $500 for the three of us, but you get what you pay for!! Will return next time I am in town.
Be the first to ReplySo tasty and great value!
This restaurant lives up to the hype! I had the petite duchess cut of filet mignon, creamed spinach and truffle Mac and cheese. The food was delicious - steak was cooked just the way I like (medium rare), creamed spinach was tasty, and the Mac and cheese is probably the BEST I’ve ever had, wow. The Bavette’s punch cocktail was also delicious - you cannot taste the booze in that drink, you’ve been warned! Service was also very good - my server was really nice and friendly even though she was very busy, and my food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. The vibe is also very cool - think speakeasy jazz vibes (they were playing jazz in the dining room). It was like entering another world. I would gladly dine here again when in Chicago.

We found that a table for two at this incredible restaurant was difficult to come by, but even logging onto the website ahead of time and trying to get a prime dinner time, we missed it. We were able to get a later dinner time and just adjusted our schedule to fit this time and we are so glad we did. An experience not to be missed! Delicious food and drinks, service and setting. What more could you want?
Be the first to ReplyElegant Atmosphere, Excellent Food, Outstanding Service
Excellent service from hostess to the man who filled our waters and took our plates; all consummate professionals. It was difficult to get reservations, even on a Sunday. But we wanted an early dinner/late lunch so we weren't planning on having a big meal. The very best part of the experience was our server, Meredith. She was very welcoming, kind, professional, charismatic, funny, pleasant and so attentive, she made us feel like royalty! Meredith knew the menu like the back of her hand and after asking our interests, she suggested extras that complimented our meals perfectly. Meredith was spot on with every single dish, it was all a fabulous experience, down to the spirits, wines and sparkling water. We were too stuffed for desert, but Meredith talked us into the most amazing brittle ice cream with hot fudge on the side, warmed in a tiny metal pitcher. The details were of the highest standards. It was the absolute best culinary experience we've had in a long time. It was actually unmatched and we're both international travelers. (insert chef's kiss!)

Server had a horrible attitude. Won’t return. Food ok. Drinks fine, but arrogant server killed the experience for me. Not worth it.

The food here is outstanding. The dim lights give a feel of luxury. I adore this place. They could use a bit of diversity in their staff.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place with amazing FOOD and cocktails
Atmosphere is cozy, elegant ; food is out of this world!: steak tartare, ribeye, old fashioned with Japanese whiskey

[Highly variable] pp (mains range from ~$30 to whatever you are willing to spend) This is a nicer meal. I found it through Michelin and Tripadvisor as a top rated steak house. As a frequent consumer of steak, I can say without a doubt that Bavette's has earned it's Michelin rating as a top Chicago steak house. From a service perspective, there were a few subtle halmarks of their excellent service style: my favourite being that the server went out of their way (or so I thought) of learning my name and addressing me by it at every interaction (having been to three star Michelin restaurants, I have never experienced this before... including at nice restaurants where I was relatively "regular"). Turns out he did this with everyone. I'm embarrassed to say I can't reciprocate. I want to say my waiter's name was "Joe". There is an old adage that American's ask their waiters (especially on the west coast) what do they aspire to be (often expecting the answer to be "actor") where as French waiters will lift their noses in disgust at the question (they've achieved their personal pinanacles). I felt like that probably would have applied here. As for the food, I would say it is the unhealthy (sarcastically) best of both worlds situations: American portions with French quality. I ordered the gargantuan shrimp cocktail expecting three, maybe four shrimp only to recieve seven or eight (I lost count). I think I would have struggled with this even if my wife was with me. As a result, I was (further) embarrased to say I was unable to finish my Chicago cut ribeye (... I've NEVER not finished a steak). Good thing I "settled" on the button mushrooms and didn't opt for the loaded baked potatoe (which would have resulted in a complete gastrometric disaster on my part). For drinks, the night started with an Elijah Craig Old Fashioned, where the barman's artful preparation resulted in an especially aromatic orange citrus flavor. I paired the steak with a mid-range cab sauv (Turner if I'm not mistaken) and ended the night with a calvados VSOP. The night was mildly celebratory (and the bill reflected it) but it was worth every penny and I was not disappointed by the Michelin/Tripadvisor recommendations.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful evening.
Our granddaughter said she had to make reservations weeks in advance. It was definitely worth it. Great ambiance, service and food. A wonderful evening with family. Looking forward to our return.
Be the first to ReplyIf it’s an important evening, plan to go somewhere else.
We went a year ago and was wonderful. But They have lost their personal touch since opening a Vegas branch. Waited, waited the necessary 30 days to make a rez. 5 minutes after site is supposed to show available tables, I can only pick 10:15pm. The entire world filled up the restaurant in minutes??? When I emailed for help, they never responded. Then, I sent a hard copy letter (old school), and they responded (via email) that my original email went to their spam folder and that nothing was available. So client emails to their published address go to junk folder? Says it all.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect dinner on our last night in Chicago.
First the service was excellent from the very beginning. The ambiance was fantastic, not too loud, just the right amount. The food was fenomenal and we enjoyed everything. The suggestions by our server were never the most expensive on the menu, hate it when that happens.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the vibe and the steak!
Pre-theater dinner with clients. This came highly recommended. The atmosphere was different and the steaks were delicious. Would definitely return for a date night!
Be the first to ReplySplendid experience
Having eaten steak at the Capital Grille and Steak 48 the days prior to our visit at Bavette’s I was a litte bit reluctant to eat at another steakhouse again. To get a table here was not easy and they charge the reservation. Nevertheless the whole experience as well as the food was absolutely fantastic. Our 45 day dry-aged porterhouse easily topped all prior steaks. Service was excellent. Only point of criticism: there is no printed menu, just a QR-code. So everyone is staring at their phones. Maybe I am to old but I prefer a printed version.

Recently ate here on a Sunday evening, we required a reservation. Started with a drink at the bar as arrived earlier than our reservation. The staff were very helpful, the food was great, we had oysters and crab cake to start and steak with a side of fries and mac and cheese. Then we had a desert. An excellent experience with excellent food.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food, hostess and servers not so much.
I had just flown in and could not make a definitive reservation in advance so was a walk in. Also, I must add in no city have I ever seen a per person charge to make a reservation-in NYC you give a credit card for large parties but do not pay for reservations or for bread! There were 3 young ladies at the front with awful dispositions and not helpful at all -they were ready to turn us away when I inquired about bar service. We had great service at the bar and every item ordered was excellent. Problem was 2 people ordered appetizers (salad and beef tartare) and I did not-they brought my dinner along with the appetizers. Sides were the potatoes and Mac and cheese-both good. Steaks were delicious. Dessert was also excellent. Cocktails also were good.
Be the first to ReplyYou can’t beat Bavette’s for a memorable business experience!
The food was incredible, we had the rib eye, oysters and bone marrow. The service was impressive. Lauren was exceptional from the moment we arrived she made us feel at home and was very professional in her recommendations. Bavette’s made my guests and I feel very special for a special occassion. Wow!
Be the first to ReplyOVERCHARGED FOR ITEM I DID NOT RECEIVE
We were in Chicago visiting my son and his girlfriend for a long weekend and he mentioned that he had been to Bavettes before for dinner and wanted to take us there to try it. Our server was Carolanne V she was very nice and friendly took good care of us he had seen her before working the bar area. We ordered several drinks and food had a good time. My husband paid the bill and we left. However today I am home and am looking over the bill and we were charged for an item we didnt receive, I guess my fault for not looking first but my advice to you is check your bill before you pay to be sure you are paying the right bill as the place is a more expensive restaurant, and from what I understand this owner owns several places in the Chicago area. The food we had was good, the bread is the best part it comes warm and the crust is amazing, delicious. The restauranr reminded me of a sort of old library vibe old chairs, walls dark wood but it was yet intimate at the same time. All the workers we dealt with were friendly and welcoming. You should try if in the area as the food was good we had the clams, spicy fried chicken, mixed green and apple salad. The steaks that were delivered near us looked amazing but we were not starving we just wanted simple items.
Be the first to ReplyAhhhhhhhmazing.
Possibly the best dinner I’ve ever had. The steak was cooked perfectly. The service was top notch. The drinks were yummy. I will dream about the lemon meringue. I’m thinking about moving to Chicago, just so I can eat at this place more often :)

Great staff was very friendly and engaging at the bar and during dinner. The cocktails and steaks were great. Loved the sides too. And all in a old club style atmosphere.
