Bemelmans Bar New York Reviews from The Last Year
I visit NYC once or twice a year to visit my daughter.
One of our stops is always having a drink at Belelmans Bar. On Monday, February 19th, my daughter and I were seated and served two drinks. At the end of the visit, our bill came. I handed my debt card to the waiter. When the charge slip came back, I told my daughter to look at it to figure the tip. She noticed that we were over charged. She hailed our waiter over. He apologized and came back with another corrected bill. I signed it and understood that the incorrect charge would drop off my account in a few working days. When that did not happen, I contacted Chase bank, and explained what had happened. They said they would remove the charge for the time being and file a claim for me. Since I had all my paperwork, I thought the problem was solved. On March 12th, I received a letter from Chase saying my claim had been denied and that they were going to deduct the credit they had posted from my account. To say I am furious...Is a gross understatement. Due to the fact I paid $140.50 for two standard cocktails...I will never darken the doors of the Bemelmans Bar again. I wish I had just paid the overcharge and left no tip, but instead I believed what I was told by our waiter, (who commented on my Disney Card telling me he was going to Disney World soon). I have two adult children who love the bar and frequent it fairly often. I told them rethink that! A very disappointed, and upset patron Nancy T. Dallas, TX
This is the place to be if you adore Madeleine.
The artwork is all over the walls! We looked over the menu and thought we were set, but we weren't invited to the kid's tea! We did notice a beautiful display of cookies and cakes, along with fresh produce. The girls were really fortunate, I suppose!

Greatest bar in the universe! What more can I say? Been there many times while visiting New York. Terrific ambiance, efficient service, limited menu but food is good. Best place on earth to celebrate a birthday. You walk in, tell the bartender it's your birthday and the whole crowd will buy you champagne. No exaggeration. Live piano with top notch musicians. Don't miss this iconic landmark in the Carlyle Hotel when you are in NYC. Five stars are not enough. Always packed, always the epitome of fun.

Giving it 5 stars simply out of the respect to the reputation. Their live music is always tasteful. They used to have the best espresso martinis in town a few years back - haven't tried it recently. Their old fashioned is a no-go.m, too sweet. Their snacks and food are decent. Overall, must see at least once in your lifetime
Tops in every category.
Impressive performance with live music, delicious table edibles and food, outstanding drinks and gorgeous decor. Was packed Thursday night at 10:30 pm but was seated right away and impeccable service. Love the restaurant and champagne bar as well. It's just a gorgeous Hotel and fun and upbeat with an elegant friendly happy crowd. Can't wait to go back.
Fantastic drink spot
This spot is stunning. The art on the walls is directly from the book Madeline. The bar is named after the author of the book so it fits beautifully. The bartenders, especially Sharif, are very talented. Clean, quick, efficient, friendly and so great to interact with. 10/10 would recommend stopping into this amazing hotel.

Why has it taken me so long to get here as a native New Yorker???? I just LOVED all of it! The Swankyiness of it all. It was classic NY! I ordered the Jackie O and it was delish. We enjoyed the complimentary nuts and chips. We had the charcuterie and it was just enough to have with our drinks. The server was splendid and offered to take my pic! I enjoyed the jackets on the bartenders, just a nice touch. This was see or be seen vibes! Great ambience and we were not rushed. Great place

See the murals, forget the service.
Wanted to see Bemelman's charming murals, and were willing to buy a couple of overpriced cocktails as an entry fee. Read how loud & crowded it was in the evenings, so went around 2 pm, a dead time. Only 8 people in the place, served by two bartenders. We first sat at the bar, looked around a bit, and asked if we could move to a table. Without looking at us, bartender grumbled, 'Sit wherever you want.' We took a central table and admired the murals. After a while, we got ourselves drink menus from a nearby bench and picked a few that looked good. After another 10 minutes one of the bartenders swept past our table and said he'd be with us. After another 10 minutes, we left. The murals bring in a guaranteed stream of tourists, so they don't need to make the least effort on behalf of customers. Good for them!
Hard to give one review.
5 stars for ambience, 1 for service. Dealt with a condescending waiter (taller, husky, grey/white hair) who couldn't refrain from projecting his shortcomings on us. Requested a third drink and a glass of water. He brought the drink but forgot the water. No big deal. When he passed again I asked for a water. He apologized for forgetting and I said it was no problem. Two minutes later he walks by and asks if we were guests at the hotel. When we told him we weren't he snarked "Could have fooled me with how hard you're going" and walked away before we could reply. Three drinks and a water? We weren't driving anywhere. We weren't falling off our chairs or hooting or hollering. He needed to pass his self righteous judgement? Hotel guests will be waited on without question but non guests should feel lucky for being waited on at all? It honestly seemed like he couldn't accept his failure for forgetting the water. Big deal. Get over it. No one was complaining. He excuses himself by blaming us for demanding too much as non hotel guests? Unfortunate.
Beautiful Bar with a history!
Such a beautiful bar. If you are a fan of Madeline you will love this bar. The drinks are overpriced but good. The other murals that Ludwig Bemelman painted in the bar are delightful. It is a beautiful place to enjoy a drink and a snack and just enjoy the views!
We came here as it's listed as one of the top bars in NYC.
I will admit that the service and ambiance were excellent and it totally makes sense why it gets labeled a top bar. The ambiance is very posh and upscale. The decor is very classy but also unique as it Bemelman's art. The service is excellent as everyone there is very kind. The day we went, there was only one bartender/server and the poor guy was so busy but still would stop by as much as they could. The bar also gives you little snacks with your drink and they were delicious. The drinks in my opinion were pretty average - the same as all other upscale cocktail bars but obviously not as good as some of NYC's famous speakeasies such a Death & Co. or PDT. The price was also pretty steep for a drink, however, given the bar, I guess that part should have been expected.

Disappointing.
Host seats people or doesn't in the most arbitrary way. Says empty tables are taken, go stand at the bar and will get you when something opens. Never gets you and seats people that just showed up. My water glass was dirty with lipstick. Bartenders wear jackets but are disorganized and take forever to take your order even at the bar. It's all smoke and mirrors, this place isn't well run and relies on NYers and Tourists coming regardless of the experience.
Beware of planning an event here.
It may look like an iconic NYC venue, but they will lead you on the entire way. After you spend plenty of money to book your event at the Carlyle, they will deny post drinks afterwards.... despite assurances that they will accommodate you. Our buyout at the event space of the Carlyle was instead prioritized by walk-ins. Not reservations or hotel guests or someone who booked out the event space.... Literally walk ins off the street. If we knew they were going to prioritize anyone who walks in, then they should have explicitly warned us so that we could have made alternative plans. Poor communication and disappointing expectations all around, especially considering the amount of money we paid for this event.
Skip it, it's a club now, completely destroyed.
Skip it, it's a club now, completely destroyed. couldn't hear the trio from 5 feet away, packed like sardines with sugar daddy's and sugar momma's. No more elegance and sophistication, a true gem that's gone, probably forever. They never responded to my emails either, when I asked about the trio of entertainment. Might as well have a DJ, never go back again.
Profiles in Professionalism
I stopped by Bemelman's at lunchtime with my family on a hot August afternoon for some refreshments (mostly I wanted to show my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter the marvelous Madeline murals). As our bartender Albert was setting down glasses of water, I clumsily and much to my embarrassment, spilled my glass across the beautiful wooden table. Albert quickly, and without a word, wiped the table dry and poured a new glass of water. Like nothing had happened. A true Profile in Courtesy and Professionalism. Thanks for turning the moment into a pleasant memory for all. See you next time (more carefully).
Worth the Cost
Meet family members for cocktails last night. The art work at this venue and the adjoining dining room are incredible. The bartender and captain were fabulous and really took care of us. The drinks were wonderful. I had the "Madeline Vesper." We dropped a drink at our table, before we even started drinking, and they moved us to a nicer one. Even when they had trouble with the billing system, they went out of their way to make it effortless. It's expensive, but that's why it is a NYC 5 star hotel. Cheers!
You need to experience this place
Being a lifelong fan of the Madeline books and a history lover, I couldn’t wait to have drinks at this bar. We arrived at around 8:00 and the place was packed. The bar manager was reluctant to find us a table….I think it was because they value a certain clientele there….the place was filled with young people. After some convincing we managed to secure a table. The inside of the bar, as promised, is covered with beautiful murals. It was so charming. Although I loved our time here, be warned, the drinks are expensive and there is a cover charge after a certain time. We felt like the cost was worth the experience, but be prepared for a costly night out.
Very Sad
My friend and I arrived about 5:30, we waited a long while for someone to acknowledge us, finally asked a bartender if we should seat ourselves and he told us someone would be with us - 2 people came in behind us and he invited them to sit at the bar! Another 5 mins and the Host grumpily showed us to a teeny table and barked that we knew we had to pay a $15.00 cover charge - we said fine, we knew that. We sat at least another 5 mins, trying to get the QR code to work - it didn't - finally a waiter rushed up and gave us drink menus - then at least another 5 mins for him to come back to take our orders. Drinks finally arrived and they were just right, the bar snacks were a nice addition - and the piano music was lovely. It was very loud in there and it is expensive - but had we been made to feel welcome and valued, we would have ordered appetizers and more drinks. Clearly they didn't care so much if we came back because they knew there are plenty more visitors waiting to come- so sad that such an iconic place treats visitors like this - By the way, we were well dressed and polite ladies -

That's what AT sponsorships are for - and you are only paying 25% in the first year and then less in year two and three.
I beliebe @EternalAnt36 was sponsored by @PerceptiveWash44 and is now doing $25k/mo.
