What has happened to Benihana!
We went to the Anaheim CA restaurant for our thirtieth anniversary celebration dinner. It was a very disappointing experience indeed. Not only did they make us wait for over 90 minutes for our dinner, they didn’t have a number of the items we ordered. For example, my Wife ordered a mixed seafood entree, which had no scallops. No Ice Cream of our choice. My Son didn’t receive his beer until we reminded them twice. We were twice asked if this was a special event, which we eagerly told the staff this was., Yet nobody acknowledged this at any point. The whole experience was extremely underwhelming and once seated after an interminable wait they rushed us through the whole meal. We have dined at Benihana restaurants throughout the US and in London and until today we would recommend Benihana to anyone. Not anymore considering we discussed these shortcomings with the duty manager, Leo, who meekly apologised for the poor service and recommended we come back, but made NO attempt to recompense for very poor value. By the way other service staff apologised throughout the evening for what they must have perceived as inadequate service. The food was OK, but overall the evening was ruined!

We hadn't come back for 8 months (due to previous review) and were expecting little but were pleasantly surprised by our server Liberty. She was very attentive and served us our soup, salad, and lunch boats very promptly. We enjoyed the food the soup was piping hot the salad nice sized and the lunch boat chicken/California roll was great.

I visited Benihana in Anaheim, California, Friday 3/11//2022, at 7:00 pm with my partner. When we arrived we opted out of the show and decided to sit at the traditional dining area as we were too hungry to wait. We made a bad judgment call. This is where the beginning of our worst experience began. Firstly, I have never seen such a huge lack of organization, professionalism, and awareness from a hospitality group in my years of working in the same industry. As we were seated we were greeted by a waiter, who took our drink order, and our food order. Drinks were served promptly, which is where the worst experience begins. We knew that there would be somewhat of a wait for our food to arrive. Luckily the laker game was on that I had forgotten how starving I had been, only to realize it had been about 45 minutes since we took our order. Keep in mind, the waiter never came by since he took our food order (about 45 minutes ago) to explain what was going on. After 45 minutes, they served me my plate, but without my partners. No big deal I can wait -- oops, it took another 20 to 25 mins for the food runner (not the original waiter) to explain why the other plate was taking so long, we were nice about it. While I waited for my partner's plate to arrive, my food was now completely cold. At this point, it had been over an hour since my partner ordered her food, and the “manager” finally came over to apologize. 5 minutes after the manager spoke to us, her plate had finally arrived, the manager offered a small discount, and to warm up my food. Seems like they forgot about our order, OOPS. Cool, problem solved, right? WRONG. We both realized that our orders were wrong, and they did not give us the chicken fried rice order the waiter had suggested as an upgrade, too bad we were too hungry to say anything. Brace yourself as this is only the first chapter of this sad customer service experience from everyone involved. They brought out a couple of desserts to show their sympathy, which we appreciated (even though it came with my order), haha. — The check arrives (the fastest thing we received that night), and was stunningly brought out by the waiter we hadn't seen since we took our order, pretty surprising because we thought he was done for the night, but only seems like he came to collect his tip. Again, I have experience working in the hospitality industry and was still nice enough to leave a tip, even when they didn't deserve it. I then realized he charged me for two chicken fried rices that we never received. Now we had to request an amendment on the recipient after I was charged already, my fault I know. So they then charge me a second time at the right price. I asked when I would receive the refund for the first mistake, they said tomorrow (3/12/2022), I said okay and I walked out. I get home and look at the new receipt and realized they still charged me for one chicken fried rice, and lied about removing both off after I never even received chicken fried rice. I now hop on a call and spend the rest of my Friday night tasking why I was lied to, and still charged for something I never received? David answered, and claimed he was a manager there that had helped us. He took my phone number, name, and debit card info and said he would call me back to resolve the matter. I never received a call. It is now Monday (3/14/2022), I have not received a proper refund, call, or any sort of help from anyone since I ate there on Friday. Maybe this establishment thinks their founder's (Hiroaki Aoki) immoral business practices are a good way of doing business. But now I am just speculating. I sent the corporate office a message about this incident and I am curious to see how they respond. If they ever respond or have any sort of remorse. For anyone reading this, do me a favor and do not visit this place. This horrid establishment is just a for-profit and over-rated corporate chain restaurant that values profit over service. Rant over.

UPDATE - We went here in October for Happy Hour - After another 10 minutes the and no one coming to wait on us, I went up to the bar where the bartender didn't even acknowledge me as I stood in front of him for about 10 minutes even saying hello can I get a happy hour menu? He gave me one - we had 5 people dining. After another 10 minutes the and no one coming to wait on us I went to the front desk and asked for the manager - he eventually made it over another 5 minutes later and we ordered drinks. The manager attended to our order as they literally had NO wait staff in the bar. In total I think we ordered 5 rolls and two drinks this took about another 45 minutes and we left probably never to return.

We had a reservation at 6:15. When we arrived, the rude hostesses snapped that the reservation doesn't guarantee seating (WHAT??), but only ensures that we get on the waiting list. We then waited over 35 minutes before we finally got a table. After we were seated (around 6:55) , it took over another HOUR before we were served any food. We were tolerant; but we saw other people have tantrums and/or walk out. Once we did get the food, it was good. While waiting, we also saw several food delivery drivers arrive and have problems with the pickups. This restaurant clearly has either poor management or no management. For example, they were obviously short on cooks, but they had three or four hostesses working the front. How does that make sense when they weren't seating people? Shouldn't the focus be on the dinner itself? There was a uniformed security guard roaming the dining room and waiting areas. So it seems somebody's at least aware of some of the problems and this guard was their solution or approach to handling all of the anger and complaints. There are other Benihana (and similar) restaurants in SoCal. Go to a different one, where the management and owners actually care about their customers and value their business.

The Steak and Scallops is my favorite to order at Tepan Bar. Great to go to before or after visiting Disneyland because it is so close to Disneyland and you are hungry after a long day. Excellent choices for children too and the entertainment from the Cooks is so special.

I have been to several other Japanese hibachi restaurants and Benihana is by far the best. I always get the Deluxe Treat with Filet Mignon and lobster. They cook it up on the hot grill in front of me with garlic butter and it’s so very good! I love their onion soup and the salad is always fresh with the tangy ginger dressing. Our chef tonight was very creative while cooking our meal so we had nice entertainment in addition to great food. I always look forward to Benihana whenever I’m in Southern California! Highly recommended!

I had family come to visit me I’m Anaheim Ca I took my sister to eat here for the first time. We sat with a family that come to celebrate birthdays here. We all had a fun time. The staff are very friendly and happy to make this a special meal. Food was good I like the rice. My steak was perfect. My sister has a fancy drink and I had a cool glass of wine. I will be coming back it’s fun for all the family
