No. of Visits : 2 $/2Per : $100+ / w drinks Bibi Ji was a cozy spot in a prime area in SB. While the ambiance is inviting, - we sat in the patio, the dishes can be hit-or-miss. The chicken we ordered was large in quantity, but the taste was quite average, and so was the vegetarian dal and other items. Service is generally friendly, but the restaurant doesn't consistently wow across visits, keeping the price in mind! Spices are very accommodating to north Indian - American palettes. Looks like they are closed now! *For reference, my palette is native South Indian, used to spice levels of about 9/10 in most Thai Restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyVery over priced for the portion size.
The food didn't have much flavor and it was definitely not good authentic Indian food. Don't waste your money and just go to apna.

Wow. Absolutely all time meal. Huge fan of Indian food, but I've never experienced such an artisanal spin on the genre. Every dish was exceptional. All the curries, all the kabob's, and the garlic naan is out of this world. Don't sleep on the lentil dish. 12/10
Be the first to ReplyBibi is always a vibe.
The music they have and the fun feel around the restaurant keeps me coming back. But the number one thing is the food. You can tell there's care and knowledge in what they make in that kitchen. The wine selection is amazing also. Natural wines from all over and the world and the servers can explain each one. It's even more of a treat when Alejandro is there to go more in depth of each wines history. Great wine and food I'll always be coming back to Bibi!

Probably the best Indian food I had while living in Santa Barbara. I compare a lot of other places to it now. It was such good quality with amazing flavor

Honestly I really liked this place!! Don't be misled, the dish looks small, but it was surprisingly very filling, I had to save the other half cause I couldn't finish it anymore. The service was personable, and the late night ambience of the restaurant was very enjoyable. I personally preferred the traditional naan over the panir-onion-chili kulcha. I think this place definitely runs on the pricier side, but overall a worthy place to visit!

First time visiting and loved the food! Spice was spot on! Staff was great! Which is very hard to come by anymore.... good recommendations, checked in just enough, super nice! The only reason I left 4 stars is the music was club loud. Very distracting when trying to have a conversation but the restaurant was nice inside and clean. Priced a little high but well worth it! We will be back for sure!

This place ROCKS! Great bites, awesome natural wines and great staff that takes care of you. Be the first to ReplyWorth a stop - loved the paneer kadai and the cauliflower.
Mango lassi was different too. Recommend coming if ur in the area
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food but pretty pricey for the portion size.
Excellent service. Very few wines were available by the glass, which was odd.
Be the first to ReplyVery approachable and tasty Indian food.
Friendly service, flavorful dishes but not heavily spiced as some more traditional places might be. All in all great dinner, don't second guess going.
Be the first to ReplyI would not recommend Bibi Ji.
The crispy cauliflower was good (although not crispy in the slightest). I got the lamb entree and it was the tiniest, saddest lamb I've ever seen. I was hoping that it would taste great enough to make me forget that I spent $28 on 6-7 bites of lamb barely 1cm thick, but it was not good. I had 2 bites and couldn't finish it. The Green sauce that came with it was also bad. The garlic chili chutney was not good either. My fiance got the coconut curry which she also thought was overpriced, but she did like it. $120 for 1 app, 2 entrees, chutney and 1 non-water drink left me feeling upset and unsatisfied. Would not recommend. The service was good, though. Our waitress is the reason this gets 2 stars and not 1. Very disappointing, as Indian food is hands down my favorite cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyIndian food has such amazing flavors and spices and Bibi Ji
Indian food has such amazing flavors and spices and Bibi Ji gets it 100% right.I went with 4 people and we had a reservation around 7:45. It's a very cool space, dark but vibey. It's unsuspecting from the outside but when you walk inside it feels like it could be a nightclub with how it's lit up. We ordered a little bit of everything- we had 2 curries, garlic naan, lamb chops (PHENOMENAL) and coconut rice, spicy cauliflower and a yogurt chutney. It was perfect. Everything was served family style so we could all try a little bit of everything. They also have a wide selection of natural wines and delicious beers. If you love Indian food and good restaurants, definitely add this to your list when visiting Santa Barbara!

Delicious delicious food! Came here while on vacation in SB and did not disappoint. I did think the atmosphere was going to be better - it kinda felt like we were eating a casual dinner in the middle of a store, so they do have some work to do there (sort of a pizzeria vibe). But the food was really amazing. I don't remember everything we got but it was all fantastic. Would recommend but not a fancy, dress up type place.

Despite the fact that the food was very good, service very efficient (we were in and out in less than an hour), this place is not high on the list for a return visit. We sort of by happenstance ordered only vegetarian: 1 starter, 2 mains, and the turmeric rice (more on that in a moment), stuck to Dry January so no drinks (wine list did look very good), and with tip spent almost $100. The turmeric rice ($6) seemed emblematic of the approach - and if you didn't spend the $6, well then, no rice for you with your $25 malai saag (paneer $5 extra). If someone else was paying or I had an expense account and I wanted good food really fast, this would be the place. But for a mindful dining experience this was not a good value for the money.

I'm trying to be fair in my rating so that I can provide accuracy for those that put weight on reviews when assessing where to visit. PROSFirst things first, SERVICE, it was amazing so that counts for one of the stars. They were extremely friendly and continuously check in on us, offering suggestions when asked so yes, they definitely excel in that area.Second, the food was delicious. We ordered Butter Chicken, Coconut Curry Shrimp, Basmati Rice, Crispy Cauliflower, Yogurt & Cucumber, and two garlic naan. Everything was seasoned deliciously and was mouth watering so I gave a star there.Ambiance was nice and dim which set a nice relaxing tone to a delicious dinner. It gets a star for that.CONSPrice to Portion. The price of the food to the portion that you get is definitely off. To pay just over $30 for a tiny bowl of Coconut Curry Shrimp that holds only 4 medium size shrimp...well let's just say that the mark up is very high. The main dishes that we ordered all came in the same size bowl, which is small. I lived in NYC for over 20 years so I'm use to being slightly spoiled when going out to have an Indian dinner. It usually comes served in a nice size portion with rice and yogurt included, everything here is a la cart so it starts to add up quickly. We also ordered a yogurt and cucumber sauce to cool our palette. It had to have been a serving of maybe 2 tablespoons of yogurt and we payed $6 for it. Price to portion lost a star (and the fact that they don't have samosas was a downer too)Booze - I don't think that they have a liquor license, which we didn't know until after we sat down so the idea of having a nice drink was out the window. They have a good selection of wine and they serve craft beer. It seemed that a wine pour would average between $15 a $20 on the affordable side and up if you have deep pockets. We opted for diet cokes because we're not big wine drinkers and we don't drink craft beers...we're more of a "vodka, soda, with a twist of lime, please". Because of this they lost a star. All in all, the food was tasty and I'd say that if you're not on a budget (like many college students in Santa Barbara) and are seeking delicious food served in small a la cart portions, then this is a good place to visit BUT if you're on the hungry side and on a budget, you may want to pass on this restaurant for the time being.Hopefully this review was successful in my attempt at providing you with the information that you were looking for.
Be the first to ReplyAccommodated our group on a very rainy night.
Our server had fantastic recommendations; we loved the cauliflower! The lamb chops and Ballard Canyon Pinot Noir were also winners :) Thank you for staying open and being so welcoming
Be the first to ReplyI love the food here.
I wish the delivery menu was bigger but I think the eggplant is terrific!

This is our go to place to get Indian food when we visit our son who is a student at UCSB. I like the food, they have a good patio to sit outside and eat. The food is pricey, but overall worth it.

Got there on time. 1 pm Saturday. Closed. Get your act together. Zero stars for not caring.

We got the Panir Tikka, Bibiji Dal Makhni, cucumber salad, basmati rice, and tandoori naan. I loved the music and wine but the food was pretty mediocre. We are huge Indian food fans. The rice, naan, and dal were great but the cucumber and panir were underwhelming.
Be the first to ReplyI am Indian so I hold Indian restaurants to a high standard.
If I could give half stars, I'd give it 3.5.The food was really good actually, but the bottle of wine we ordered was gross. We asked for a light red, and he suggested a full bodied wine. Ummm. And when they opened it and I tasted it, I said it wasn't good, so my friend tasted too and agreed, and then the server proceeded to pour the bottle into our glasses. And for $60, it was a major let down.We had the crispy cauliflower which was tasty and spicy. If you can't handle spice, don't get it. Also, this was prepared in a very "orange chicken" style...not really Indian. We also had the PANEER naan. It's spelled PANEER. They spell it panir. Which is just wrong. The owner isn't Indian, which is totally fine, but get the spellings right please. but this was super tasty!!I order the paneer tikka and it was tasty but should always be served with a lemon wedge. I asked for one and they brought me lime, which is also totally fine. But you have to have acid with grilled paneer. My friend ordered the Bibiji dal makhni, which is essentially creamy black lentils... she enjoyed it but didn't taste like the traditional dish, nor a fusion. Just tasted like someone made it who has never had the real deal??We had a side of basmati rice which was prepared really well.Overall, if I had to go back, I'd steer clear of the wines. But since I will never HAVE to go back, I'm happy.
Be the first to Replymy friends and i came to sb and found this place.
