🤮 1/5 - Greatly disappointing food with a side of miserable service.

My wife and another couple went with us to Blue Hill at Stone Barns for their "Picnic" offering. We were all excited to go as the 4 of us regularly go out to try new restaurants. The ambiance was pleasant, with a fine-dining-rustic feel. We could tell that some thought was put into the idea of the presentation which was interesting. However when it came to the food and service, that was another story.
The service was near non-existent. We wanted to look at the wine list, and yet there was no one to ask. We never had a waiter check in on us without us being the one to flag them down, often after a 20-30+ minute waits. After flagging on down the waiter only pointed out that there were 3 wines at different prices. Mind you there were no names, or description of what the wines were asides from Red, White, Rose, and only the prices. No sommelier to explain in depth, or even a name or region or grape. They never cleared our plates, or gave us new plates as we cleared our own and put into the basket next our table. This led to our only plates having many dishes worth of flavors and residues combining in unpleasant ways. When the basket was overflowing that we had emptied our own dishes into it was never emptied. We were never visited with inquires as to how we were enjoying things from the very elusive waitstaff. I think I now understand why the tip was included before we even sat down.
One could overlook all of this if the food was good.. although the food itself just was either mediocre and or straight-up not palatable. As we were two couples the two husbands helped finish their respective wives meals. We could tell that the cuisant/doneness of the fish and steak were inconsistent, to the point that they tasted like different dishes. The food itself hard a very weak theme, although lacked cohesiveness between the 3 courses and within courses as well.
In short for the 4 of us, despite coming in with excitement and an open mind left with disappointment and a bitter-taste. I can only presume the chefs that created the gastronomic experience that many have lauded has either left and been replaced by lesser cooks (not chefs) or they've had their will to prepare good meals leave them.
I believe I've now spent more effort writing this review than both the servers and the chefs put into the dinner.
