Bocca di Lupo London Reviews
Bocca di Lupo, Soho, London
This cool but very popular restaurant in Soho near Piccadilly Circus is a dream if you love a variety of small and utterly delicious plates. I ate with a friend at the bar overlooking where the chefs prepare their wonderful treats. Everything that we ate was perfect and it was obvious that only the best ingredients were being used. The service from our waiter Edward was superb and he seemed pleased that we were having such a great time. We even begged a recipe from Rado one of the chefs for the capponata we were enjoying and he so very kindly and willingly handed it over. Every single we ate was a delight. We will be back!
Authentic, unpretentious and delicious
We sampled several small plates, each one of which was outstanding. Rave reviews for the capinata, the carpaccio and the ricotta ice cream with fraises des bois. Service from Edward was attentive, friendly but not intrusive. We canโt wait to go back.
Great spot for two at the counter....... delicious.
What a great restaurant. My wife and I ate at the bar and got to watch all the cooking. Very interesting. The app, pasta, chicken and lamb sausage was delightful. And the wine and atmosphere put a bow on the box.
Highly recommended.
Another great evening at Bocca di Lupo. Great menu, friendly and efficient staff. Fantastic atmosphere, if you enjoy a noisy and busy restaurant, we do. It was very sweet that they remembered it was my birthday. Highly recommended.
Outstanding experience
We booked for a late dinner on Thursday and we were amazed for the overall experience. Very cozy and Friendly ambience , the waiting staff was very attentive and charming . We had a selection of everything on the menu , we thought we order too much but at the end we couldnโt stop eating lol . Top notch for Amberjack carpaccio , Spaghetti Spider crab and Lamb with egg yolk and Pecorino . Wine selection amazing too and thanks to the sommelier which it suggested a perfect match for what we order . Well thanks Bocca di lupo and see you soon !!!
Yes yes yes.....
The Bocca di Lupo was recommended to me by a well known restaurant critic - and how right he was. A small and very busy place in the heart of Soho - I expected to be disappointed but ended up being very pleased with the whole experience. You can choose between a table in the small dining room or otherwise eating at the bar watching the cooking - I did the right thing and chose the former. Service was excellent - professional but casual and friendly. There is a 22 ยฃ lunch menu served until 1800 or a la carte - all the dishes I saw looked great . I took the fixed lunch and enjoyed it very much - starter + risotto, ice cream and coffee - great value. Good choice of wines too. Overall a great place and will go back - recommended.
Authentic Italian Dining in the Heart of Piccadilly
An absolute gem in the heart of London! Dining at Bocca di Lupo in Piccadilly felt like a taste of home. The atmosphere was cozy yet lively, and the service was top-notch. If you're craving authentic Italian cuisine and a welcoming ambiance while in Piccadilly, this is the place to be!
Birthday celebration
The food here was excellent. Everything we chose was well cooked and very tasty. There are lunch and pre theatre set menus but we opted for the a la carte. There were too many good things to mention them all but we particularly liked the olives stuffed with minced pork and veal and the courgette flower stuffed with mozzarella and anchovy. We opted to go for a variety of small plates rather than large main courses. The service was good at every level and the extensive wine list wasn't as scary as some I have encountered in London lately! The only reason I havent rated this a 5 is because I would have preferred the tables to be set further apart.
An amazing Italian food experience
It is like eating across Italy, in Italy - a delightful food experience. Every dish we had was a delight. tasted so full of fresh flavour.
Fantastic Italian food
The atmosphere, service and food were all fantastic , and very good value . The menu changes according to what ingredients are seasonal, the menu is unusual but explained in a relaxed and accessible way to us by a friendly waiter , and there are loads of staff so the service is excellent. All the dishes we had were excellent , we particularly enjoyed a deep fried seafood dish with blood orange and 2 delicious pasta dishes.
Pasta that melts in your mouth, service and ambiance were
Pasta that melts in your mouth, service and ambiance were outstanding! Every hostess, the server and chef truly care about your experience.
Yummy
Visited on Sunday. The place was buzzing with happy eaters. Service was fantastic. The food it probably the best Italian I have had in ages. A great way to experience the food is to share plates as we did. Will we go back definitely 10/10.
Wonderful Food and Value!
What a cracking place! 1 I could not have been more warmly welcomed. 2 I could not have been better looked after. 3 The food was delicious - especially the apple mostardo. 4 It was wonderful value - ยฃ22 for three courses and coffee. 5 I had fun. Thank you!
Set menu is a winner
Twelve of us had the downstairs private dining room, enjoying a four course set menu with a great vibe at a very reasonable ยฃ62 ph. The food was excellent, the wine was superbly recommended and the service by Sergio was second to none. All in all, a great culinary experience and highly recommend you try this restaurant.
Would highly recommend - delicious!
Amazing!! I visited with my mum for a birthday lunch and it was such a lovely time. The food was delicious, all beautifully presented and tasted incredible. The service was also amazing and we sat on the seats next to the kitchen which was lovely to be able to watch the kitchen staff create your food! Would highly recommend.
Friendly service, decent food and a nasty surprise at the end.
My family ate at Bocca Di Luppo during the week. It was packed so reserve to get a table. The staff was friendly and engaging. The restaurant is relatively small so expect some noise. The food was good but not great e.g, the spaghetti with brown crab was very fishy, way too much so. I wanted steak but the smallest cut was 750 grams - which seems a little inflexible. Food and service wise this is a solid 4 star but the bill at the end contained a nasty surprise- a 15% service surcharge! This surcharge nonsense has crept into the London scene which is a shame but we donโt see 15% a lot - mostly 10 or 12%. Just for that reason alone, we wonโt be back.
Superb Restaurant
What a truly fabulous restaurant. Totally Italian, not pretending to be. Waiter, Marzio, Sommelier, Kieran and front of house Lucy were superb. Friendly & professional. Service was excellent and the food just so very good. Cannot wait to return
Amazing as always
Bocca Di Lupo is always amazing. The counter seats are great fun and the service is always excellent. Risotto is incredible- thanks ๐คฉ
Yum!
We met Jacob at a wedding and were keen to try his restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was really excellent. The service was also very good - shout out in particular to Kieran, our sommelier, for his knowledge and sense of humour - and we were made to feel we were valued guests. I especially recommend the tagliata, which was superb, and the rabbit and broad bean salad - the dressing was delicious - but everything we ate - the ragu, the risotto, the braised lamb - even the sage leaves with anchovy and the bread and oil - was perfect. We will definitely be back. It has earned its Michelin star and more. Thank you, Jacob and team, it was fab.
A real hit and miss evening
First sign of trouble was when we asked to move table as the tables either side of us were so close both we and the other people couldnโt move. Then when we ordered 2 of our main courses werenโt available which we were told after the waitress had gone to place the orders. Why didnโt the server know this beforehand? Our meals ranged from poor to very good but you donโt expect that range in the restaurant of this โqualityโ. Not a cheap night out at ยฃ300 for 4 either especially with only 3 having starters. We had an average bottle of wine. We last went 10 years ago and it was better. I doubt weโll be back again.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world.
The ambiance is perfect. The food is delicious and the service is warm and friendly. Could not love this place more. Always top of my list for London trips. Special shout-out to host to the very friendly Lucy who remembered us speaking on the phone when I arrived and helped us get seated at the bar. Additional praise for our server India for the great recommendations and service with a smile. Bury me here!
The food is always, unfailingly terrific and the service
The food is always, unfailingly terrific and the service gracious and attentive. The atmosphere at both the bar and the tables is pleasant and offers two quite different experiences.
Great experience across the board: Attentive and congenial
Great experience across the board: Attentive and congenial service, creative and delicious food and up tempo, vibrant atmosphere.
Excellent Italian Excellent menu Great wine
Excellent Italian Excellent menu Great wine selection Portions can be considered small if you are coming from Canada or the US. But they are very satisfying. I did like the face that you make any dish as an appetizer or main size. Our waiter was not very warm and put a bit of a damper on the evening. Ost of the other staff were very nice and on point. The decor is modern and very small with around 9 tables. I would recommend this place and would come back.
We made it back after a long absence and not sure it is our
We made it back after a long absence and not sure it is our cup of tea. It's got a great vibe and a really nice cocktail menu, which we didnt get to sample based on what else we were doing. The challenges are two fold: it is loud/crowded so be prepared for that when you come at a peak time like 7/730. The second is that we found the food less elevated than it had been historically. The pork wasnt cooked as well as we'd like to render the fat and the other dishes were just not as strong. The team was very solicitous on feedback so I expect with all things you can get some variance in service and food. They clearly want to get better which is great to see.
We spent 4 days in Covent Garden and ate out every meal.
This was by far my most memorable meal. The gnudi was so delicate but packed with flavor and the lamb ragรน tied it together perfectly. Not pictured in my review was a wild garlic and morel linguini that I think about every day. They make all the pasta in house and the service is great. We were met by our server then had a short chat with with sommelier to help with drink selections. We chose this place based on a recommendation and I look forward to sending others there and especially revisiting it myself. The restaurant is small and cozy so make a reservation if able. There seemed to be a bit more space at the bar if you don't mind the high top there's a great view of the kitchen operation.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in London.
A very lively place, very friendly and attentive service and really amazing food. Multiple staff came to check on me since I was dining by myself. They were so friendly despite the restaurant was absolutely packed. Most of the selections come in half size and full size. I recommend ordering the smaller half size and order a few things to share. Reservation is highly recommended because it's not a very big restaurant and it's right in busy SOHO. A quick 3 minutes walk from Piccadilly Circus. Ask your waitress or waiter for their recommendations. The menu changes frequently.
Loved the food, our round corner table and lovely waiter
Loved the food, our round corner table and lovely waiter Roberto who was very helpful and enthusiastic with suggestions which with so many delicious options on offer we really needed.
Beautiful atmosphere, expensive small portions but Renata was fantastic
Six of us visited Bocca di Lupo on 3 March to celebrate a birthday. It is a nice bright venue even if the tables are a tad too close. The food? Just okay. Nothing was standout except for the price which was compounded by the fact that the portions are small. For example myself and a friend ordered a large portion of spaghetti and clams each costing ยฃ28.00. The portion was far from large and to this day I am convinced it was the starter size but then others in our party ordered large pasta and their size looked small too. Honestly, it barely touched the sides. Those little nuggets of starters start to add up too at ยฃ2.50 & ยฃ3.50 each. A quaffable bottle of red was ยฃ33. We each had desserts; cannolo shell stuffed with ice cold pistachio ice cream? Not the cannolo I'm used to having. The bill was a traumatic ยฃ66 per head. I left hungry and went home and devoured a bowl of branflakes. I've eaten way better Italian food in London and paid a lot less. This place is in Central London so its never going to be cheap and I guess will suit the insta crowd because that said, the atmosphere is nice. I wouldn't go again, not at those prices but I certainly wouldn't dissuade anyone from giving it a try. The service was lovely and Renata was a joy and someone who clearly likes her job.
Still a great restaurant so many years later
My first visit to this restaurant was many years ago and it was great. Finally got round to returning and although we were seated at the counter it was a fabulous evening. The food was excellent and so many choices I wanted to try. Good wine list, but just had a simple carafe of wine. Service was really good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly without being overbearing. I can now see why this place is always booked out. If you get a chance to go, take it. I won't be leaving in 10 years before I go again.
Definitely lacking...
We had a quick dinner here before the theatre. Our wine, served in a carafe, was corked. The bottle was not opened in our presence so I am not sure why it was not checked prior to its arrival at our table. It took a further 10mins for a replacement to arrive by which time we'd waited the best part of 20mins for a drink. At ยฃ10 I would argue the small portion, Puntarelle salad was on the pricey side. When it arrived it was absolutely smothered in dressing. This was noted by the waitress at the serving station but the grumpy and disinterested headchef indicated she should serve it anyway. We returned the salad. Apart from this the meal, the service and the food was pleasant but is that enough? At ยฃ220 for a 'quick bite to eat' I'd say it should sparkle.
Good food, poor service
Having thoroughly enjoyed my previous visit, I came to celebrate my husband and mine birthdays. From the start service was random, slow and intrusive. Took forever to get asked for our order, there was no interaction outside of taking orders and asking once how things were going. It really felt we were just bums on seats. Food was good, pasta maybe a bit too al dente for my liking, but fritti were light and ingredients top notch. Portions not massive, allow at least 3 dishes per person Paying by QR code meant you cannot dispute the service charge: on this occasiona, it was definitely not worth 15% Also no soap in toilets.. Would go back again as the menu changes regularly and is interesting but would expect much much better service
Great Italian in Piccadilly
Went here after Moulin Rouge in Piccadilly. Excellent Italian. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Got the special dinner. Superb food.
Disappointing Service
I came as part of a party of 6 people for dinner last week. We all enjoyed the food but felt very disappointed that despite arriving 15 minutes early, we were told that they would need the table back after two hours, which feels like a very short amount of time for a table of 6. We had barely finished our main courses when we were told they would want the table back soon, and were not offered a pudding menu or coffee etc. The waitress then proceeded to stand over us as we hurriedly finished our wine and we felt pressured to leave. Really disappointing service and would not go back,
Pre theatre black goo
Went for pre theatre thinking it would be a menu, not a no choice meal. First course, lettuce and vinegar. Second course, sloppy risotto with squid ink. Waiter was cold. 15% tip already on the bill. We just dropped nearly a ton on black goo. Never ever again.
enjoyable buzz to restaurant even Monday lunchtime
Lovely atmosphere, good service, lovely food and enjoyed sitting up at the bar. Reasonably priced and enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine. Also nice to scan and pay without needing to attract anyone's attention to pay. Would love to go back.
Brilliant food, brilliant drinks and an all round brilliant
Brilliant food, brilliant drinks and an all round brilliant experience - can't wait to go again!
Perfect for a pre-theatre meal
We had booked for 5.30pm and the place was already buzzing when we arrived. The restaurant is small and tables are close together, but it wasn't overly noisy. Two of our party of 3 have allergies to gluten and so staff provided us with a separate menu, which allowed us to see which dishes would be suitable. I wish more places would do this! We ordered 3 large plates to share: chickpeas with tomatoes, confit tuna with cannellini beans and langoustines. The langoustines were listed as coming with breadcrumbs but they did them without for us, which was a nice touch. We had some wine by the glass and I finished with a coffee. The food was lovely and the service friendly and efficient, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. As a place to eat before visiting the theatre it was perfect and I would love to return another time to sample more of the menu.
brilliant pre-theatre meal
We were lucky to get a last minute table due to a cancellation. The food was delicious. The pre-theatre set menu for ยฃ18 (ยฃ23 with dessert and espresso) was excellent, saffron risotto with bone marrow. The others had pasta, all amazing, my favourite was probably the rigatoni with guanciale (pork cheek) and tomato.
Solid variety of Italian food choices from all over Italy.
My personal favorite was the tagliata - it beats some local steakhouses imo! Great spot for a date or pre-theatre dinner with friends!
I visit London from time to time from the US, and a trip to
I visit London from time to time from the US, and a trip to London is not a trip to London without at least one trip to Bocca. My record is 5 times in 6 days! The food is fantastic, the people are friendly and accommodating. The menu changes frequently so there is always something new to try! Love you guys!!!
Bocca di lupo is fantastic.
There is something for everyone here from a lunch special, a theatre special to a fantastic dine in menu! Service is terrific and you could just tell that everyone actually knew their menu. On one very embarrassing location, I stepped out before paying (absolutely horrifying) and the staff was so understanding and I was utterly horrifiedI haven't tried everything here but I hope to!Some of my highlights:The Panzanella Salad with grilled chicken (Lunch special)A Theatre menu with the best pomodoro I've ever triedI've heard that their is a room below is for the big ballers who roll through London, I can't wait to see the wine list with that menu! (can anyone confirm if this is true). For anyone who dives into the London food scene, I am finding that their a secret places within a few restaurants :)For anyone visiting, Bocca di Lupo is in Soho and right in central London. So easy to get to from Piccadilly Circus or after a visit to the RA or Fortnum and Mason. I first discovered it after visiting GELUPO. Gelupo has the best gelato I've ever had. Give me mascarpone anything :)
