Great food, wine service is a rip off.
Wine options include high priced no name wines or a ridiculous $100 corkage fee. For the cost, one might expect a white tablecloth and better trained staff.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, food and wine.
We are group of 4 guys going out for dads night once a month, new place for us! Super friendly service, amazing staff and host. We were there a bit early so felt like we had the whole place to ourselves on a Thursday night before people started coming in, was packed when we left. One downside is that we ran out of table space for all the food we ordered. Place is little tight but not bad. I've been in worse. THE FOOD: The NY Strip looked a bit think so we shared the two large steaks they had that night, a few sides (which should have been larger) oysters, about 3 bottles of wine. Honestly thought it would be more expensive since I'm used to downtown or River North steakhouses. Two faults, side dishes need to be larger to truly share with 4 and place needs more veg. I think I destroyed the salad that came as a garnish with the steaks.SUMMARY: Felt that the meat here was better quality IMHO and the atmosphere less old school suits so more chill vibe for me. Thanks for reading.
Be the first to ReplyIn my opinion, Boeufhaus sits solidly between 4 and 5 stars.
But the steak just fell SLIGHTLY short that I had to settle for 4 stars. The two of us ordered a bunch of dishes to share to start - the escargot, salad, and I had the French Onion soup as well - they all taste delicious but the portions were not big. Then, we ordered the 22 oz bone-in Ribeye to share - and we were still hungry!! So we ordered the New York Strip as well. The ribeye is definitely superior compared to the New York strip in terms of flavor and juiciness, I would recommend. We also ordered the fries (just OK, not worth a revisit) and the mushrooms (very good) as sides, and a couple glasses of wine. It was not cheap - the dinner set us back just under $400 with tips. Would I visit again? Maybe not in the very near future, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying again in ~6 months.
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointing experience.
Reached out to management after and never heard back. Maitre d arbitrarily set a time limit on our reservation, even though there was no indication of this on Resy or the restaurant website. Sever was nice but spilled wine on one member of our party -- management never stopped by, nothing was taking off the bill, and no effort was made to help with dry cleaning. All he did was drop off a Tide stick. Food and wine is average, not worth the $100+ per person price tag. Tables are tight and there could definitely be more space in between. Would recommend Swift and Sons or Bavette's if you're looking for a memorable steak experience.
Be the first to ReplyOur evening at Boeufhaus was a strange and unfortunate
Our evening at Boeufhaus was a strange and unfortunate experience. We had a date-night reservation for two at 7pm and were seated right on time. Enjoyed yummy cocktails, apps and main dishes. Ordered everything right on time -- never asked our waiter to come back because we weren't ready. Vibing and having fun together and eager to find out what this lovely little restaurant offered for dessert! Except -- record scratch -- at 8:30pm our waiter informed us that the restaurant needed our table and if we wanted dessert, we'd have to eat it standing at the bar. That's right -- we were asked to vacate our table exactly 90 minutes after dinner began without any warning that this was their policy. After ordering $250 worth of food and drinks, we were not given the chance to enjoy dessert and coffee and finish our nice evening together at our table. We left feeling so bummed and disappointed. Hope the extra cash you made on the next seating was worth it?
Be the first to ReplyThe food was excellent! So was the wine.
Our waiter was fabulous and extremely attentive! The atmosphere was very casual and comfortable. The meal was pricey but worth the experience. I would definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for my birthday dinner and was very happy with
I came here for my birthday dinner and was very happy with the experience. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable, and the place had a very intimate ambiance. For me, the short rib beignets were the star of the show, absolutely delicious! I also ordered the tartare and steak frites, which I was also very pleased with. I would definitely recommend this place as an intimate date night spot.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife, and I celebrated New Year's Eve dinner here.
The restaurant did not disappoint. Upon arriving early there was not enough seating at the bar to accommodate pre-dinner cocktails. However, the hostess suggested a bar a short walk down the road; to grab drinks, and wait for our table. Classic Chicago seating greeted us. We were seated close to another group that were celebrating as well. My wife, and I started with an old fashioned, then wine which I must say they had a great selection. The ambiance encouraged uninhibited conversation, and was perfect for a night out.Dinner service started with the short rib beignets, and escargot for appetizers. Both were prepared exquisitely. I was even able to get my wife to try the escargot ha! Following appetizers I ordered the 22 oz dry aged ribeye while my wife ordered the steak and frites. The French fries were cooked in beef fat, and had a slight hint of vinegar. Which was a pleasant deviation from the common French fry you find anywhere else. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, and the taste was exquisite. If given the opportunity I would order everything again!Unfortunately the drinks had been flowing for quite some time at this point; so we had little interest in taking pictures of our dinner. However this is a testament to the great time we had...I will say: with 3-4 glasses of wine appetizers, and dinner, we spent an exorbitant amount of money. However it was worth it. We had a great time.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and exceptional service.
Locations is a bit odd and atmosphere is so-so with very tight table spacing, but the food more than makes up for this.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, good lively atmosphere, a little pricey.
Look beyond their steaks for real culinary creativity and skill.
