The oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood in Miami
Coconut Grove, also known as The Grove, is the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood in Miami, Florida. And one of the greenest. Bordered by North Prospect Drive to the south, LeJeune Road to the west, South Dixie Highway (U.S. Route 1) and Rickenbacker Causeway to the north and Biscayne Bay to the east, east of Coral Gables, the city was settled in 1825, incorporated in 1919 and annexed into the City of Miami in 1925. The Village Center, the three blocks radiating from and focusing on the intersection of Main, McFarland and Grand Avenues, is home to a majority of the retail and restaurant business in the Grove. The Grove annually hosts a number of outdoor festivals and events, the most prominent of which is the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. Visit the sidewalk cafes and chic shops in and around the CocoWalk mall with its multiplex movie house, marvel at the bay-front Barnacle Historic State Park, home to a mangrove forest and the oldest home in Miami-Dade County still standing in its original location, and don't miss the iconic Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, centered on a lavish Italian-style villa, or the eight-acre tropical garden The Kampong that forms part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Shopping is abundant in the Grove with two open air malls and the Streets of Mayfair. By night, the Grove becomes a center of nightlife frequented by locals, young professionals, tourists and students from the nearby University of Miami and Florida International University.

Explore what the Grove has to offer. There is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, businesses and hotels. They even have a branch library that is well laid out.

Excellent walkable area in Coconut Grove. There is a CVS for knick knacks, excellent restaurants (try Glass & Vine, MrC and Amal, which is a high end Lebanese restaurant). I There is Starbucks, and small cafe types if you want to be budget conscious. The only way to by pass the parking fees is to stay in an Airbnb that offers parking, otherwise you're spending down town NYC parking charges (or Uber). Coconut Grove is 12miles from South Beach but it might as well be 50 miles as it will take you 45 minutes to an hour to get there- But totally worth it. The beach feels and looks like the Caribbean Riviera, with the water temperature feeling like about 75 degrees. I would recommend a separate day for South Beach unless you're on a tight time line and want to capture as much as you can. Visit the Barnacle Historic Park ($2), Vizcaya and Wynwood Wall if time permits. The town has an upscale vibe and is well lit at nights- once you start traveling away from the restaurants and lights, the mood gets to be more urban . Walk along the bay and visit Monty's. There is a free bus which takes you to Brickell - I didn't go, but found the free bus/trolley to take you there.

Wanted to love this place. I paid $35 , and ordered 3 items, assuming it would be enough for a full meal. In the wanton soup, there was one wonton. The sushi was 8 tiny pieces. The bok choy was barely three mouthfuls. I never leave negative reviews, but this is just such a rip off.
Be the first to ReplyWalkable clean city with lots of restaurants and green area
Coconut Grove is the greenest city in Florida, many National Historic sites. Beautiful very large park in front of Biscayne Bay offers walking paths, dog park, folly ball and baseball parks.
Be the first to ReplyGreat sidewalks
The scenery was super cool. the sidewalks were well taken care of. It had a nice atmosphere with people walking around. When we went it was a tad bit chilly.
Be the first to ReplyTourist and local rip off parking.
Tourist trap. Parked in the paradise parking at the mutiny garage. 2 and a half parking $25 is a rip off. Rates not clearly posted. Beware. Better placed to visit and better restaurants and entertainment in Wynwood, Midtown, brickell, coral gables and the design district. Not worth the hassle and aggravation to park in the grove.

Classy area of Miami, waterfront shops and restaurants. This is the spot to get away from south beach and relax in the local area
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Hidden Gem
The entirely fortunate people who call this tiny pocket of the greater miami area home are the luckiest. It is a gem. I love the quiet intimacy and privacy of its commercial area, its almost bohemian atmosphere, and its artistic bent. It feels like a world away from the grit and swagger of muscular Miami. This is a quiet and refined version. Love it here.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Neighborhood, very tropical!
Excellent Neighborhood, very tropical! Coconut Grove downtown is full of nice little restaurants and a lovely harbour. Many wealthy people live here and own big villas.
Be the first to ReplyNice to see but average
Had a late flight out of MIA so we decided to check out Coconut Grove. It was neat neighborhood with pharmacies, shops, art, restaurants, etc. But nothing spectacular. They did have this one cute boutique that was amazing although for very tiny people. I'm a size 4/6 and am too big for fashion here.
Be the first to ReplyNice area with some history
We enjoyed the Barnacle Historic State park as well as walking around the Grove. Parking seems to cost about $3/hour throughout the area.
Be the first to ReplyVery cool place, limited parking
Cool restaurants, shops and walking areas. Parking is limited and very expensive. Can easily pay $20 to park, just to run over and grab a bit to eat for lunch. But, the area is so cool and trendy (in a very good way). You can spend the entire day here, strolling around enjoying the parks, marinas, food and drinks.
Be the first to ReplyWorth a visit
Expect parking to be difficult and expensive. Lots of options for dinner or a treat. Wear good walking shoes.
Be the first to ReplyAwful experience
I had never gotten my car towed until today.
What a terrible experience. The office has the feel of a prison. The people that work there are rough and insensitive.
I hope no one has to go through this. My advice is that you never call them for service as they make money off of innocent peopleโs mistakes.
