Bouchon Bistro Yountville Reviews from The Last Year
the lobster should always be the best one.
the oyster are not recommend anymore. It is fresh though but too salty for me( personally. It is not necessary to get a platinum just order half lobster depends on how many people. For appetizer I would recommend the devil egg and the smoked salmon. Both of them taste very interesting. For main course I prefer the lamb. It is juice compared to the chicken and if you choose the steak instead just remember make the truffle fries! If you want a Chardonnay with your meal for a price range 300-400 I would recommend William Fèvre. 2021 have the most interesting taste when compare to 2016 2018.
Had their special of the day from the blackboard: Gnudi
Had their special of the day from the blackboard: Gnudi with shaved truffles, ($70). The ceremony of the truffle VIPA arriving in a red box with a humidity gauge on it's side, escorted by 2 servers, was humorous. But at least they didn't get stingy with it; they shave enough for the 5 pieces of Gnudi. Bread was good, but truthfully, I've had some far better ones from a French Bakery in Berkeley. Roasted Beet Salad was good, but, again, was it "wow" caliber that I was expecting from a single-star Michelin restaurant? For me, it didn't meet my expectation. Service was good however.
Best experience in Yountville, from beginning to end.
Arrived early, sat at bar, enjoyed a tasty Negroni. Ate everything at lunch, tons of amazing food. Didn't take a lot of pictures in Yountville, because social media people are really ruining the dining experience...subtle pic of my food is one thing, but it's like a photo shoot in some of these places.
the food was very good, close to the finest we 3 ever had
the food was very good, close to the finest we 3 ever had but not quite a perfecto 10. the salade d'endives was nice and we splurged on the roti d' entrecote ribeye for $185, my sense is that it might've been had at another steak joint for 50% that price and i prob would've thought that was still pricey... but this is supposed to be fine fine french dining, oui? we did get some sides to go with - sauteed spinach/epinards, shrooms, and champignons de paris/caulflowers - all pretty decent and not cheap, but again - fffd, oui? i liked their table bread free of charge and had some leftover to bring back to the crib. lastly, we succumbed/porked out on a lemon cake for dessert. total damage? - almost $340... bring the gold amex if you go, and you should because yolo/yodo... btw, our server bsapp was very nice and took some pix for us and with us, oui oui!!!
We had high expectations.
Our service was excellent but the food was just ok. The short rib was my favorite.
I love this bakery.
They have wonderful pastries and bread. I have yet to try a sandwich from them. I love their chai tea as well. They have really good service. It may be a wait depending on the time of day but really worth it.
Divine dining experience! After a less than good
Divine dining experience! After a less than good experience for a Sunday breakfast a few months ago, I hesitatingly made dinner reservations for a Saturday evening. Off-the-charts experience, French onion soup, steak frites, and the vanilla creme brulee were beyond delicious. Service was attentive, and we were able to enjoy our dinner and not feel rushed. Thanks for a special evening!
I had high hopes.
Sadly I was not impressed by bouchon bistro. (The bakery on the other hand is amazing). The biggest issue for me was the fact that they packed us in. I got so claustrophobic I had to leave part way through the meal (friends paid). The sat us and pushed the table all the way up to our stomachs. Feet were crammed back and people on both sides. It's was insane. Then the food came. Salad was great, soup was ok...service was ok...gnocchi was the saddest thing ever. Seriously bad. Bread was wonderful. Cocktails were good...also...that is no escargot. Wouldn't go back. If they opened up the space a bit maybe I wouldn't be so cranky about the subpar food.
We came here for a nice Mother's Day treat.
We didn't have a reservation but were lucky enough to wait a bit and get seated at a table. It was very busy, and the space is quite compact. Since this is a pretty pricey and well known spot, we were definitely expecting a top tier experience. My family and I all ordered different dishes to get a good sample of the menu, and the food was beautiful and delicious. Unfortunately our experience was ruined when my brother went to ask where the restroom was to a passing waiter and instead of giving him a direction, responded with "I'm not your waiter" in an unhelpful and dismissive tone. We understand that the waiters are very busy, but we believe this isn't a professional way interact with guests just looking for a restroom. We did end up bringing this up to our waiter and host who apologized for the interaction. While the ambiance and food provided a pretty good experience overall, it's a bit difficult to overlook the service.
Mmmm so we were bummed that French Laundry was so hard to
Mmmm so we were bummed that French Laundry was so hard to get into but enthusiastic that chef Thomas Keller has another restaurant right there- Bouchon. Everything was delicious! The waiter's recommendations were spot on and we honed in our newly Napa acquired wine appreciation skills to pair our wine perfectly. Definitely a must eat place!!!
TURN DOWN THE MUSIC!
Food-flawless. Service-excellent (and friendly). Abbreviated wine list-helpful (makes choosing simpler). This is only a 4/5 review though. The noise level is intense. It is a small dining room. I understand background music when the room is less than half full. Maybe you won’t hear a conversation 2 tables away. At full capacity the music just unnecessarily adds to the noise level. It is difficult to hear the people across the small table from you.
Prepare for disappointment
Off season, Napa Valley there should be no excuses so prepare for disappointment. The beef bourguignon was a watery mush; The Salade Lyonnaise, salty globs of wetness (drenched, not dressed); “gnocchi” was, to be polite, not gnocchi (fried potato bread atop green ooze?) Most the clientele seemed too drunk to notice or care — as the wine seems to be this bistro’s raisin d’etre. Recommendation: avoid if you are planning to eat. Oh well!
Delicious but Rushed
It's challenging for a restaurant like this to live up to its reputation. Husband and I went for a delayed anniversary celebration on our first night in the area. Fun, bustling atmosphere. Very attentive service. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave helpful selections. Another server removed the bones from my sole as if she moonlights as a neurosurgeon. Impressive! Escargot appetizer was wonderful. Sole was good if unremarkable. Husband had Gnudi with truffles(pasta made from ricotta) that knocked our socks off. Lemon sorbet for dessert was refreshingly tart. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that we felt very rushed the whole meal. We had a 5:30 seating and we were in our car by 7:00. We aren't ones who tend to linger, but servers were consistently asking to remove plates with food on them. Due to the richness of the food, we would sometimes put down our forks to savor and take a break, but if the fork went down a server was trying to bus the table. This rushed feeling was compounded by similar service at the tables next to us. They really pack you in tightly and they are turning tables quickly, so the atmosphere was unrelaxed. Since this was a big splurge for us, I found the pace to be a little disappointing.
A notable experience.
Lunch with friends proved to be a notable experience. The food quality and variety was excellent, the service attentive and inconspicuous, and the overall ambience most enjoyable. Sunchoke soup followed by rainbow trout were both to be recommended. These were well accompanied by the house white wine (a sauvignon blanc) from a local winery. There is an enticing selection of deserts.
Not like it used to be
We were celebrating a special occasion and thought we would go to Bouchon because we had enjoyed the food here before. We were disappointed. Service was lacking. Food was served cold. The manager was great in correcting the situation, but we probably will not be going back soon.
Great place for a really good meal.
Food was great. Service was great. Decor is really well done. Highly recommend. it is pricey. Many go to the bakery next door for the excellent baked goods.
“Bugs “
We were visiting Napa from the East Coast on October 26,of this year. We loved Yountville and chose to dine at Bouchon that evening. We were enjoying our meal when a large cockroach crawled out from under my plate , scittered across the table and ran under the bread. I was so nauseated, could not touch any of my remaining food and waved to our waiter. Previously congenial, he replied to my concern dismissively. We then asked for the manager who stated , “ There are always bugs in restaurants in Napa because of the vineyards !” Obviously this was not a typical “bug” that chose to come out of the dark and ruin our meal. When you see one, you can be sure there are hundreds elsewhere in the restaurant. We were getting our coats to leave when the waiter slammed a glass with our bill in it. He stated, “Taken care of !” and walked away. We never asked for have our bill “ taken care “ of. And he was rude and abrupt with us despite his previous congeniality. I’m just as upset about the cockroach as I was about the demeanor of the waiter and manager. A beautiful day in Yountville but quite an unpleasant night.
Very poor service levels
Was my wife’s 60th Very underwhelming recognition A candle stuck to a plate Lack of attention. Only good thing was the water was kept topped up Food was good but service very poor
French Fab!
Best yet for our last night in Napa Valley! Beautiful bistro with lively crowd—sampled escargot, onion soup, more wine and steak frites—all delicious! Sat next to Alabama couple who understood our southern drawl and nice local couple who did not, but were teachable. Great spot for special date night and worth the drive if you are in the area!
