If you are looking to visit Vienna, then the location of
If you are looking to visit Vienna, then the location of this hotel cannot be beat. Not only is it immediately in front of one of the main attractions you will want to visit, it is also situated near all of the major pedestrian street/shopping districts you will want to wander through. There is also a subway station that serves two major lines immediately in front of the hotel. Normally when we travel we spend most or all of the day way from the hotel because it takes too much time to get back during the day. However, we found the subway so convenient that we came back midday for a small rest before going to a local cafe and setting out again. On top of all that, the hotel staff were incredible. They answered all of our questions, provided helpful advice on where to eat, and even addressed all of our special requests. The breakfast buffet has a nice variety and although there was a generous amount of meat, my vegetarian wife was able to find plenty of options each day.

A wonderful hotel in a wonderful location!Located directly across from St. Stephens, this contemporary boutique hotel is in the perfect location to see all that Vienna has to offer within a short walk. Or the subway entrance is right out front so you can venture as far as you want! The rooms are well furnished for a European hotel- large towels (even washcloths which are not common in Europe) nice toiletries, and coffee in the room. We upgraded to a suite on the top floor and had our own personal balcony with a table, chair and umbrella to sit outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Plaza. The included breakfast in the morning was one of the best we had on our trip! Pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, meats, cheeses, etc- whatever you wanted - it was there. And they have a couple of guys making your favorite coffee drinks as well so I could have sat in the breakfast room all day.And the staff was super accommodating- they ordered us a taxi on our last day and because they did it (or maybe it was the time of day) they were able to pick us up out front versus us having to walk from the pedestrian plaza that this is located on. Know before you go that if you are driving- I'm not sure exactly how close you can get before you have to park your car although there is a parking garage on the nearby side street. Why not 5 stars you ask? The bed just wasn't as comfortable as it could be. It was hard and just wasn't what I was expecting given everything else was so great! But if you like a really hard beds- this could be your place. That aside- we had a great visit and would return the next time we are in Vienna!

Every March I'm in Vienna for the ECR meeting - but I am still looking for a hotel at which I would like to stay again the following year. After reading the Yelp reviews, I truly thought that the search had ended but unfortunately I will have to try out something new next year again.I paid 515$ for two nights which I consider upper tier even for a hotel in this location (1st district) and time of the meeting where all hotels are commonly overbooked. Thus, I had relatively high expectations. The location is certainly great - most subway lines go through Stephansplatz and it was also very easy to get here from the airport using the City Airport Train (CAT). The hotel is easy to find although the entrance is not really welcoming from the outside. Another minus is that all employees and guests seem to go here for a smoke break (which remains a problem in Vienna) so it didn't really give off a luxury feel. The entrance hall was much nicer and the staff was very polite. The room was in very good shape but also pretty basic. Alot of wooden decor which would also be appropriate in a hostel. The long dark hallways leading to your room also reminded me of a hostel. The bathroom was very clean but had an annoying self-closing door and not a real shower, only a tub with a very small glass coverage. So to avoid spraying water over the whole floor, I had to kinda squeeze myself in the corner. The selection in the mini bar was disappointing. At least there was free water which apparently is also their (filtered) tap water - but there are no bottles to go. TV was relatively small to watch from the bed due to the room layout but other than that good. WiFi was free and fast.Based on the other reviews I also had high expectations regarding the breakfast. Unfortunately, the opening times mentioned everywhere (!) in the hotel are inaccurate - weekdays breakfast is only offered until 10AM instead of 11AM. They made an exception for me when I arrived there were hungover but neglected a fellow American on the table next to me another coffee which is unacceptable in my opinion. I love an included breakfast as everyone else and the offered buffet is pretty good. The highlight is certainly the view right on Stephansplatz and Stephansdom when enjoying your breakfast which alone is worth 1 star. But service was only moderately friendly also the next day and the buffet was unattended so in case something was out I couldn't ask for service.Overall, location and breakfast view are big advantages for this hotel but inadequate price-quality ratio and the very average rooms make this a 3* rating at the most. I am truly surprised by the overall high ratings here but it seems that a lot of people only rated the buffet and its view but never were true hotel guests which may explain this.
Be the first to ReplyI stayed here for five nights on my recent trip to Vienna
I stayed here for five nights on my recent trip to Vienna and as much as I love Vienna this hotel was so comfortable, and relaxing it just made my time in Vienna even better (if that is possible!). The staff here is warm and friendly and the breakfast buffet was exceptional. I loved having breakfast every morning with such a wonderful view of the cathedral, it made every morning a special occasion. I came here on the metro and this hotel conveniently overlooks the exit from the metro. The location of this hotel for sightseeing was perfect, we were able to easily walk to nearly everything we wanted to see. I look forward to staying here again on my next visit to Vienna.
Be the first to ReplyI cannot comment about staying at the hotel as I did not
I cannot comment about staying at the hotel as I did not have to opportunity to do so. I originally booked 4 nights at this hotel based on it's location and competitive rates. I booked at their non-refundable rate as I did not think I would have an issue in doing so. Due to an airport strike (which is not covered by my trip insurance plan), my flights to Europe were cancelled, necessitating that I rebook my trip for the following month. I contacted the hotel at least 4 days in advance of my stay indicating the situation and requested that I be allowed to credit the amount I paid (approximately $1,100) or some portion thereof to my planned stay with them the following month. When this situation happened to me before at more reputable hotels, hotel management has always refunded money if they were to find a replacement for the room, which they usually do. In this case I was not asking for a refund. It would have been completely acceptable to me if they had conditioned a credit on their ability to re-rent the room or limited a credit to some percentage of the amount paid. Instead their condescending response was that I should have either purchased insurance for the trip (which I did), I should ask for my hotel money back from the airline, or the next time that I book a fully refundable rate.Well there will be no next time for me at this hotel. Instead I booked a room at the Marriott where I can trust that management is customer focused and not interested in picking the pockets of their customers.Stayed March 2014, traveled as a couple
Be the first to ReplyI enjoyed my stay very much.
I thought this would be one of those hotels that just rested on its laurels in terms of location - it is right next to the ubahn and many of the rooms directly face the cathedral. But the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast was great. They had nice cheeses, a juicer, and really good kombucha among other things. The staff was overall fine though on the stiff side except for sandy who was fantastic.I would stay here again on a return visit.
Be the first to ReplyWe just spent three days here following our disembarcation
We just spent three days here following our disembarcation from the ship. We were delivered (sort of) by probably the most inept taxi driver we have experienced. He picked us up at the ship, asked for the name of the hotel and then took a street that wouldn't allow him to pull up in front of the hotel, which was a block or so away. He unloaded our luggage in front of another hotel and was about to leave us there until the very kind doorman intervened and sent him, w/ Alan following, over to our hotel to return w/ a bellman and luggage cart to bring our luggage back to the hotel. At our hotel we were welcomed by Zekai, the daytime desk clerk. He told us someone else hadn't shown up the day before and that he would be giving that room to us. He added that we were fortunate and indeed we were. Not only were we able to check in very early, but once we reached the room we were stunned by its size and beauty. It was a corner room w/ one tall window facing the cathedral and the other facing the street in front of the hotel entrance. Floors were narrow random planks, ceilings were very high and there was abundant and convenient storage, not to mention plenty of room to move around w/o "dancing". The king size bed, actually a couple of twin beds pushed together were made up w/ a duvet on each bed folded up in a jellyroll style. We lay down and took a much needed nap, then unpacked. The location of the hotel was marvelous. We had a fine view of the cathedral and could walk to the library and to a variety of restaurants. The windows opened, efficiently shutting off the air conditioning and on Sunday when the cathedral bells rang they filled the room w/ music. Wifi was free, convenient and reliable. Breakfast was included and was a generous spread of eggs, sausages, cheeses, cereals, fruit and yogurt, magnificent heavy whole grain breads you cut yourself, pastries and orange juice you squeeze yourself from fresh oranges. In other words, a sumptuous feast. The breakfast room also serves as a cafe and bar until 10PM. You can go there for light meals, a pot of tea or a cocktail. The bathroom was divided into two rooms, one w/ a bathtub and separate shower, the other a toilet w/ sink. Amenities were natural and free trade, although I found the liquid soap drying to my skin. The floor of the bathroom is heated, which was a pleasant surprise. We loved that in New Zealand. Throughout our stay the desk staff were helpful w/ restaurant recommendations. Umbrellas are available in the lobby, very handy in the rainy weather we've been having. Our stay here was very pleasant and we would stay here again if we were in Vienna.
