Boxwood Restaurant West Hollywood Reviews from The Last Year

Boxwood was a lively noisy spot more for hanging out than for conversation. We were seated at a high table at the bar which was oddly inappropriate since the host of our party was obviously severely disabled . The servers were friendly and efficient. As for the food, a few of us ordered onion rings and French fries.. both were soggy and undercooked. The salmon was serviceable and the kale salad was generous.. creative and flavorful however , the dressing was heavy handed. A dessert pudding was a sweet finish . Definitely, a busy bar scene but it was disappointing for a party of 7 adults having a business dinner .

Excellent french fries! Also, great breakfast service for hotel guests. We have only had breakfast and room service here so can't vouch for lunch or dinner.
Wonderful food and service.
Tasty cocktails. Fantastic $18 three-hour validated & covered valet parking. We enjoyed the Surf 'n Turf appetizer and various gourmet tacos. Highest recommendation!
We tried afternoon tea here today and it was deeply
We tried afternoon tea here today and it was deeply disappointing. I thought they would know how to do tea, being The London hotel but sadly, not. Sandwiches were minuscule and open face, literally 2 inches across. Tiny and dry and waaaay under seasoned. Then the sweet's arrived and there were so many of them. The scones were really dry and crumbly and arrived cold. Bad sign. A few of the sweets were ok but they really felt like they'd been made days ago and not fresh or vibrant at all. The cakes were dry and it was like bad bakery food. Tea was fine though the options were very limited which was surprising and disappointing again. Service was lovely, Kaitlin was great, but for $85 dollars (they wanted $22 for a low end glass of bubbles) it was really underwhelming. I've had afternoon tea all over town (and around the world) and I would never ever recommend the tea service at the London Hotel. Oh well.
We made reservations for Christmas Eve We brought my eighty
We made reservations for Christmas Eve We brought my eighty eight year old father who is disabled . When we got to the restaurant They didn't have seating in the main dining room. They had limited the sitting to the bar area which was never told to us when we made the reservation. The only seating they had for us was a high table with stools. When we told the manager that we had an 88 year old disabled man with us. He said we had no choice but to sit there. That the other tables which were at ground level and bigger were reserved for others. We were a party of five. We had nowhere else to go since it was Christmas Eve. We knew that there were no reservations available anywhere else. My father did his best to climb up onto the stool with our help it was embarrassing for him. The awkward moment with manager already started. They could have made an exception and put us in the main dining. The bar area was noisy and had horrible loud music in the background. We decided to Try to make the best of it since it was Christmas Eve. But things just got worse. The starter was good we had the Seafood tower the waiter was very pleasant and did his best. We were used to eating at high end restaurants with impeccable service and accommodations. The fact that we were sitting in the bar area was very annoying. Our Starters were good we had the surf and turf My father had the oysters. Which je said was good and I had the endive salad which was good. Everything started to fall apart with the main course. Every time we were served a course We had to tell the servers assistant where to place the meal who ordered what. At a "high-end "restaurant this This is not normal. Your server usually knows who ordered what we were only 5 of us. Once the main course was served, the prime rib was overcooked. My nephew had asked for it to be rare. My sister had asked for medium. She got rare I ordered the fish It was extremely fishy and dry, as well as my brother-in-law Who ordered the sea bass as well. The garnish was more tastier than the fish. We were very disappointed with the main course. All of us agreed that for the price and the place that we were at that It was unacceptable. We could NOT enjoy our meal. We were debating whether or not to tell the manager. When it was time for the dessert it was the last straw. It come out at different intervals Everyone got their desert at different times. The coffee we ordered with dessert was cold and we had to wait over 5 min to get sugar to the table. Two of us ordered the toffee pudding. It wasn't even a pudding it was a piece of cake and it tasted stale and dry. The pecan pie was ok. My dad ordered the apple tart which looked good but 3 out 5 of us waited more than 5 min for the other desserts to come out. When we finally got the courage to tell the manager he was not empathetic we told him everything that had happened and he didn't seem to care did not offer to make us walk away from the table to feel better about this experience. Super dissappointed so much so we left without leaving a tip for the waiter. My family has never done this but we were so upset at the manager that we felt the only way to send the message was to leave zero tip. I felt bad for our waiter he did a ok job with being short staffed but why should we pay for an expensive meal that was not what we expected. Then to top off the evening my father struggled to get out of the stool so much that when we halfway reached the exit he started vomitting. NEVER GOING BACK!
We ate here for Thanksgiving.
The prix fixe menu looked really great. Unfortunately the whole experience was a bust. We were asked to wait in the lounge as our table was prepared. We were met with random silverware on the floor in the lounge area which was off putting to start with. Shortly, we were led into the dining room from the lounge and immediately let down by how ugly, barren and terribly lit the dining room was. You would never know this dining room was in a nicely decorated hotel. It was a lot like the inside of a Denny's. There were no candles or arrangements on the tables - nothing to indicate this was a holiday dinner that cost over $100 a person. The lights were bright cool white, full blast overhead in semi-melted hanging lanterns that were absolutely pathetically out of place. It's like they renovated the hotel and got to this room and just stopped because it was out of their budget. It's strange because the bathroom within the dining room area matched the rest of the hotel. Our server was so kind and did her best but you could tell the place was short staffed and she was spread very thin. This resulted in some pretty poor service. Our menus were mistakenly taken before we even ordered our meal. We were brought bread, but no side plates. We asked twice for side plates and then when they arrived they were dirty. Drinks were ok, but there were a few ingredient issues at the bar that resulted in sending a drink back. Service was delayed throughout our experience. Trash was not cleared from the table. All around us, tables sat dirty and unbussed- some for entire duration of our dinner. The food was not great for the price tag. It all looked great and had beautiful presentation but fell very short on taste. The seafood tower and the turkey plate were the best of our items. Everything else was mediocre. We paid close to $500 between two people with drinks and a seafood tower. It was not even close to being worth it. It was a regrettable holiday experience.
