Just too many negatives for us to rate as any better than average. Dishes sound very creative, but were marred by excessive sweetness (both from mirin as well as probably straight sugar). Yes, many Japanese dishes contain a sweet component, but except for the bao rolls, all the other seven dishes were mildly to very sweet, unrelieved by enough savory or acidic elements to balance. Practical issues also contributed to a less than stellar evening. Service was okay, but it took too long after being seated to be greeted and given menus and to order a glass of wine, despite the dining room being only 20% full at 8PM when we arrived and with plenty of waitstaff wandering around. Tables are very small, and with food that entails many small plates, it was a constant hassle to negotiate serving and eating without disaster. (Personal gripe: we hate metal chopsticks.) The place filled up with a young hip set as the evening went on, and was very, very loud by 9:30 when we were finishing up. Wine list so-so, seems a little aggressively priced. The seven small plates came to 83€; two glasses of sparking and an average cru Beaujolais added 81€. You might have better luck, but we will take a pass on a return. (This restaurant is affiliated with Eels, one of our favorite upper-level places in Paris; we were expecting better.)
