Buddakan New York Reviews from The Last Year
The food was good and the service was great! My espresso
The food was good and the service was great! My espresso martini was AMAZING. I was expecting the entrees to work better together but the appetizers were divine. Got the tuna tartar spring rolls & the lobster egg rolls. For entrees we got the lobster fried rice & the shrimp entree. The lobster fried rice reminded me of a city island paella more than an Asian fried rice. Regardless, everything was good. The interior is gorgeous which is a plus!
Great food and wonderful service.
Perfect restaurant for a celebration! Highly recommend
Could do a lot better with seasoning.
Wouldn't come back. However good customer service

Went to celebrate a birthday and picked Buddakan for it's obviously upscale grandeur/ambiance, excellent service and last but not the least delicious food. We ordered Chilli Rock Shrimp (9/10) and Lobster Egg Rolls (6/10) to start, Steak (9/10) and Wok Tossed Noodles with Prawns (8/10) for entrees but the highlight of the night was our dessert - the Pistachio Cremoso (10/10 - MUST try)
So delicious and fun experience.
Very eye appealing and aesthetically. Loved it and it was very well placed in NYC
Very nice place
Very good services, food and location, maybe for my opinion too much noise. But in summary very nice place with quality food
It’s good to be back
We came back after a few years and it’s still cool. Loved the food and the atmosphere, loved soo much the cosmopolitans at the bar. Hope to come back soon!
This is definitely my favorite upscale Chinese restaurant
This is definitely my favorite upscale Chinese restaurant in New York, the food was just marvelous. Once you step in the restaurant you feel like you are in one of those restaurants from sex and the city. My favorite dish there was the Pecking Duck and Wild Mushroom Chow Fun. The cocktails are delicious too, you can never go wrong with a lychee martini. The service was excellent. Loved everything about this restaurant, this is definitely a celebration spot. The architecture is beautiful, from the chandelier to the dining tables and bar.

I went over the weekend for the first time with a couple of friends. We were greeted immediately by the host staff who were friendly. We waited just a few minutes before being escorted to our table downstairs in the library. The atmosphere and lighting are stunning and very serene. After being seated we were greeted by our server Callie who was absolutely wonderful. She was amiable, attentive and very personable. We started with drinks, Callie suggested we try the "Answer", which was truly delicious. As we were trying to decide what to order (because everything sounded so good), the manager Spencer came over to the table to see how we were doing and if we needed anything to let him know. We ordered a few different dumplings, pork buns and the short rib and scallion pancake. For dessert we had the Matcha Basque Cheesecake, one word "YUM". Everything was incredible, beyond belief. What a wonderful evening, everything was amazing from the drinks to the food to the fantastic staff. Will definitely be going back.
Cannot say enough about this place.
Was in town for work and our team tried them out. Staff was amazing and very accommodating. Even tailored to a solo vegan in our group and another with a random pineapple allergy. Food was amazing. I did not have a bad thing on the menu. We ordered a lot and had to keep on ordering just to try more. Could not beat the ambiance. Nice. Warm. Maybe a tad dark but hey, enjoy the moment and the experience. Try this place if you can.
Overpriced whitewashed Asian food with mediocre staff.
Hostesses weren't friendly at all, though our waitress was kind. Not sure how the food at this place has so many good reviews- if you're actually an Asian person or you're used to eating at good Asian restaurants DO NOT EAT HERE. Major disappointment as this place was very hyped up and very pricey. We ordered some of the most basic dishes and somehow they were all almost inedible. I felt like I could've cooked something better tasting at home. All of us didn't like a single thing we ate besides the rice. Majorly whitewashed Asian food with no seasoning on anything. Would not recommend or return.
Cool vibe, slow service, great food.
Stopped in for dinner and enjoyed our meal. We were seated in a weird area that seemed a little too dark and in the corner with a large party that started getting extremely loud but the food was great!
Pan Asian delicacies
Great option in Meatpacking district. We had been at the Philadelphia location, which is like a club atmosohere, this was less congested, though it gets loud in its own right. Excellent quality pan asian food, options from Japanese, Chinese and dim sum. Family style and sharable platters with great flavors and generous portions. Friendly service and extensive beverage menu.
A great food and exceptional staff!
Everything about this restaurant is top quality. We visited for my 50th birthday and were not disappointed. All of the staff were wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable, our server helped explain the menu as it was our first visit. The food was amazing riding well and my expectations. The duty manager Tony really made the visit memorable for us, a truly fantastic dinning experience.
Food is incredible.
Got the dim sum special to share, sausage fried rice and filet. I've tried an Old-fashioned and Martini, both of which were on point. Ambiance is really cool. It's a huge, dimly lit, Asian temple vibe. The bar area is essentially a dark lounge with comfortable seating and high ceilings. Prices are pretty reasonable for a place like this tbh. Has become one of my favorites in NYC

I've been coming to Buddakan for quite some time now, The first 5-6 times I loved it amazing ambience. Then, the last 2 times the food quality and service was the worst i've had. Food was under cooked and the steak I ordered gave me some of the most extreme food poisoning i've had. I hope you guys can improve soon.
Stylish!
We had our office party with more than twenty people attending. The service and ambiance were impeccable! Attentive, efficient and friendly staff ensured a smooth dining experience. We were able to get some vegetarian options as well with customization. Reserve ahead of time. Overall, a great spot and check them out when you are in NY.
Interesting atmosphere in NY
Impressive atmosphere, original architecture. Pleasant food, good quality, kind service. Fresh rice and lobster salad. We asked for, to add it a bit, olive oil which tested good. All was elegant. Dumplings could have been more tasty but they were delicate and fresh. Moderately, not so expensive.
Excellent night
Excellent food and atmosphere. Reminded me of Hakkasan in London. The dumplings were very good. Very lively and nice setting.
Best dumplings in NY
Booked the restaurant while on a short 3 day trip to NY. The restaurant lives up to its reputation. We had a few dumplings and reodred the platter. The dumplings are very delicious, we didn't really require any sauce to go with them. Each mouthful was tasty on its own, without any condiments. We loved the food so much that we visited again next day - lucky to get a last minute table.
Went for a girlfriend of mine's birthday and the atmosphere
Went for a girlfriend of mine's birthday and the atmosphere is fabulous. It's forgiving if you wear a revealing outfit, or get an accidental smudge on pants and be fine because it is so very dark. Now the food: everything was 10/10. The lamb chops, peppered steak, oxtail dumplings, Chinese sausage fried rice, and their version of bang-bang shrimp was all prepared and seasoned perfectly. We ordered an array of dishes to share and you should too if you visit: Do not rob yourself of only trying 1-2 items here. I will add that getting the kimchi rice was a nice break from the meat and oily dishes we got; it was light and the kimchi still had a nice bite to it. Overall, fantastic vibes, service was great and I can say the food will have me coming back for a random night of amazing food. By the way, with all that we ordered (split 4 ways, 1 cocktail each and gratuity included) our bill was 90/person.
Delicious
The Asian restaurant impressed with its delicious food, cozy ambiance, and attentive service. Robin, our server, was friendly and efficient, while manager Dragana ensured a smooth dining experience. Overall, a great spot for satisfying Asian cuisine.

Fun experience!
Super fun place, with a Miami-esque visual vibe. Food and drinks are almost immaterial, as the site itself is so cool (VERY dark, though!) and yet both were also delicious - cocktail list is diverse and interesting, and the food good, too. We had a large crowd, so were able to try a variety of things, and nothing disappointed! Service was attentive without being annoying - a great night!

I loved the look and feel of this restaurant- Buddakan is a high end Asian restaurant in Chelsea. We had reservations but were running late - staff was really helpful in pushing out our reservation and accomodating us later. We got seated in one of their inner dining rooms but i loved their main area - dark, high celings with lovely decor. We started with cocktails - Blush, Jade, and. dragon fruit cocktail. I liked the Blush (lychee based), skip the Cucumber based one - was not good. For appetizers and mains, we for the edamame dumplings, the mapo tofu, the eggplant tofu, and the crispy tofu. The mapo tofu was great - not too spicy, others on the table thought it could use more flavor/have more of a sichuan taste and I felt the same but overall it was good. The crispy tofu was a table favorite- crisp and sweet - an interesting combo. The eggplant tofu was decent - the pineapple and cashews that were added made it unique. For dessert, we got the matcha semifreddo - this had a clementine sorbet on top with blondie crumbles - really delicious dessert with a gorgeous presentation. The dessert was the highlight for sure. Would come back for drinks and dessert - entrees were decent if you arent craving authentic Asian food. Great ambiance - so good place for drinks

This place is so good I ate the crab fried rice and the dim sum tasting super yummy. Service was amazing Ambiance was really relaxing and quiet. My favorite was actually the the mocktail drinks ughhhhh I want more
Great ambiance, food and drinks were good but I can't say
Great ambiance, food and drinks were good but I can't say it was mind blowing. Service was on the slower side the night we went. Would recommend for a nice night out.
Amazing service! We got sat almost right away upon arrival.
Our server Alex was very attentive and was kind enough to go over the menu since it was my first time and one of the managers came by to check on us as well to make sure everything was going smoothly. The Black Cod was absolutely fantastic! Will definitely be coming back here
I came here on Valentine's Day with 2 friends.
The food and service was good.. but the reason for the one star is because of the secret charge. The bill was over $400, we split it 3 ways. I signed off for $165 for my share plus tip. Checking my bank statement, I see they charged me $191. This is not okay Buddakan! Please return the money that is not due to you.

I've dined at Buddakan three times in the past two years, but my first two times were for work events. I've been seated at the iconic long table, a smaller table to the side of the long table, and this time in another room to the left of the stairs. The elegant and mysterious vibe of the restaurant has remained consistent. Not one thing I've had at this restaurant has disappointed either, although some dishes were more standout than others. The dim sum tasting is a unique experience, since as a dim sum lover, I am only used to traditional dim sum flavors. The dim sum served here has its own twist on the original dim sum, and it's fun trying each of the dim sum here one-by-one with the rest of your party. I wouldn't say anything is particularly standout for me from this order, besides the shrimp toast because I generally love shrimp dim sum. One thing I would like to note is that the edamame dumplings taste way better after dipping it in the soy sauce. Oh, the Kung Pao Monkfish and the Dungeoness Crab Sticky Rice. I didn't order the Lobster Fried Rice this time around so I could try the crab sticky rice, and it did not disappoint. All three dishes: the fish, sticky rice, and fried rice live in my head now. If you love fried fish, you'll love the monkfish. It's crispy, and the flavor is just chef's kiss. The monkfish and crab sticky rice pair really well together too, since both are seafood dishes. I usually don't eat crab (not my preference for meat), but I loved this dish and even the crab part of it. The flavor went so well paired with the XO sauce. I also added an additional comment about an inside joke anniversary on our OpenTable reservation (the Sunday before Valentine's Day), and the staff did not disappoint. (They also added candles and a little anniversary chocolate on our dessert that we ordered.) The waiter was friendly, funny, and helpful with dish recommendations.
Great atmosphere
What a beautiful, trendy place to go for a delicious dinner . The fusion food excellent. Very friendly staff. Great atmosphere

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
