Cafe Barbosso Sarasota Reviews from The Last Year
I love eating here for lots of reasons but my main reason
I love eating here for lots of reasons but my main reason is the Almond Tiramisu. It's heavenly! My favorite server is Reg! He is very attentive and professional and has a way of just making people feel happy while they're there. Thanks Reg for making our visit extra special!
We've been there a few times.
The last time we went, we did the chefs table for 7 people. I understand the owner has a "schtick," but he made a particularly violent comment to the 70-something-year-old mother of our friend. Violent to the point that all 3 male guest at the table (including her grandson) started to get up. We all looked at her and she seemed ok, so we sat down. Then, as we were leaving, he made a sexual comment to another of our female friends. It's funny till it's not. He has no boundaries. Plenty of other good places to eat. He's not as special as he thinks he is.
Honestly worst place ever for Italian food! Ceaser salad
Honestly worst place ever for Italian food! Ceaser salad was wayyy to garlicky and the chicken Parmesan had absolutely no flavor at all first time I've ever wanted to not even take my food home with me. The cannoli was the only saving grace of the dinner and at that point I was surprised something was good. The service was fine but overall it left more to be desired. For being a full house with so many people there you'd think the food would be amazing and at $40 a plate what an absolute waste of money and just an overall disappointment.
Sat at the bar last night.
Awesome service by the friendly bartenders who make a great cocktail and wine pours. Savor Sarasota salmon dinner and chicken parmigiana with penne pasta was incredible with huge portions. The appetizers of Caesar salad and capers salad was very good. Followed by the best tiramisu in the area. One of our favorite places. We will be back.
If you are going for the food, don't.
A friend recommended this place. I am going to unfriend them. So many good italian restaurants in Sarasota. This s not one of them. If you are going for the food, don't.

What a nice find! The meatballs and the rigatoni dish were very good! Joseph made some delicious cocktails too. I was not a fan of tiramisu until now, it was so light and heavenly. Good and friendly service, can't wait to go back.
WTF! Made reservations to enjoy a nice, reliably delish
WTF! Made reservations to enjoy a nice, reliably delish Italian meal at Cafe Barbosso's. I've been a loyal customer there for several years. It was my 65th birthday and I wanted to enjoy it with my family. Made reservations early in the evening so that we could take our time enjoying ourselves--is 4:00pm early enough--that's when they open. Like I said, it was my 65th birthday and I chose to celebrate it there. 65 is a friggin' milestone birthday and it's a big deal. Some thought went into where I should celebrate it. I should have had the best seat in the house and been treated like family. I'm a local. I'm from Florida and I support your business 12 months a year. Joe and I have talked about this before. Cafe Barbosso couldn't have let my family down, embarrassed us and disappointed us more than you did. We arrived and were shown to a booth in the back corner of the restaurant. We were the only people there. We asked for a table instead and they obliged with a table that was literally on top of the visiting artist's table. Again, not another single patron in the restaurant. Every table in the whole place was empty. The hostess informed us, before we even sat down, that we had to be finished with our dinner/celebration by 6:00 as they had a reservation behind us and would need our table, so we had to have a timer on our celebration. Really? Are they more important than us? You're going to rush us before we even take our seat? We sat for a few minutes and decided to leave. You ruined our evening. Thank you for that. This was a ridiculous statement by the hostess--who in fairness seemed new and didn't know us as regulars. No excuse. There are only about 200 great Italian restaurants in Sarasota that would never rush a family out of their seats before they sat down. Good bye Joe, Joseph Christopher, Dino and friends. Don't need to eat and celebrate like a family where we're not treated like family.
One of the best Pizza we’ve had!
After reading previous reviews of this restaurant we decided to give it a try, and we’re so pleased we did. When we arrived it looked like it had closed down but when we got inside we were amazed by the decor and how busy it was. We both ordered the pizzas which tasted fresh and were fully loaded with the toppings. I don’t want to sound flippant but we both said that these pizzas were the best we have ever had, and we’ve traveled around a fair bit. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend this place and urge everyone to go if they’re in the area.
Fabulous Food
Honestly, one of my most favorite restaurants of all times. I have never had a bad meal here. Great customer service. Our family frequents this establishment throughout the course of the year, and everyone always enjoys their meals.

We went in to get a gift card and stayed for supper! Our server, Reece, (sp) was excellent! We had the antipasto salad and the veal parmesan - both were outstanding. I expected the traditional salad but it was more like a plate of meat, cheeses, pickles veggies and olives on a bed of lettuce. I ate every bite! The veal consisted of two nice size patties with plenty of sauce and cheese. I was going to pass on the bread-until it was on the table and I could not resist that dipping sauce. We enjoyed our dining experience, with all of the art work in the room and a live artist painting. Go- you will not be sorry!
Good pizza, service and ambiance.
I highly recommend. Their pasta dishes are large and very authentic.

What a cool artistic place for any event, date night, girls get together. At the top of the list for places to grab a fun dinner!
The Big Waiter was Sexually Vulgar and Disrespectful to me.
I don't go out to dinner to be humiliated. The olive oil that is served with bread is bitter. Those two combos need to GO. I'm Never going back.
Food is very good.
The art scene is over the top too much. I had their peasant chicken over pasta which is special. Sauce is extremely savory and different. Pasta is perfectly cooked.
Just a well run, very fun place.
Food, service and atmosphere are excellent. Peasant Chicken is amazing.

The ambience is authentically their own! The food is awesome (this is from someone who makes their own pasta!!). The appetizers, stuffed peppers, pizza, bolognese I could really go on & on! When my son visits, this is on his Absolute list every time! Music, art & the menu demonstrates the boldness of the personality because the food can back it up! Regretfully- The service is hit or miss which is the only reason for 4 stars! I have bragged about how wonderful it is only to bring friends and receive inattentive service that becomes a topic of conversation. I absolutely love this place, choosing it as the location to celebrate birthdays and special occasions.
Highly recommend for pizza
W have been looking for a great pizza each winter when we stay for 2 months in Siesta Key. I heard from another guest at our condo place about Barbosso and we decided to give it a try. We went on a Wednesday at 4:15 without a reservation and were seated promptly inside as we requested. We shared a pizza and a hot meatball sandwich and loved both! The crust is not too thin or too thick and cooked perfectly in their wood fired oven. We now have a pizza place here that we love and although a bit of a drive definitely worth it!! Our server Reese was very kind and attentive; please give him a shout out from us.

Have had Cafe Barbosso on my list of places to try for a while now. I was excited to finally make it there to have dinner with my aunt. Place was busy, we didn't have a reservation there was a short wait, about 20 minutes not bad, but also didn't think on a Tuesday that I would need a reservation. So I was even more excited to that the place was busy so the food must be good. For appetizers we ordered the stuffed mushrooms and rice balls. The stuffed mushrooms were DELICIOUS, the rice balls were not. The rice balls didn't have much flavor and then the big bowl of sauce that it came in was cold. But the Demi glaze for the stuffed mushrooms was out of this world. For dinner I ordered the fillet of sole and my aunt had veal parmigiana. The sole was ok nothing to rave home about. My aunts veal was over cooked, you could tell the outside edges were dark brown and black color. It clearly was fried too long. My aunt ate some of it and didn't complain, even though she probably should have. Our waitress Cindy came over and asked if she wanted a box my aunt said no and then told the waitress why she didn't want to take it home, because it was overcooked. The waitress was very apologetic, my aunt said you don't have to apologize it wasn't your fault. The waitress came back with the check and says to my aunt I spoke with the manager and she looked at the veal and said it wasn't over cooked it was "crispy" around that edges, so we gave you 50% off of the veal. Which my aunt's response was well did she try it because I can tell you it was overcooked. The waitress knew shouldn't have said that and quickly back peddled and said I'm sorry I'm just repeating what my manager said. We have you 50% off so you will come back again. A manager that didn't have the decency to come out and say that to our face. Apparently the manager didn't believe my aunt so why would she come out and address us. But hey thanks for the 50% of the meal that was overcooked and we didn't ask for 50% off or even complain. But now I'm complaining because that was pretty tacky and no we won't be back.
A terrific go-to Italian Restaurant!
Fun decor + band outside on Saturday night; service was fun and over the top attentive, even though the restaurant was packed. The filet of sole, chicken parm, and especially the pasta bolognese wer just fantastic. An extra fun part is the prix fixe "chef's table" - a show worth watching (in which we did not participate for $100/head). Only flaw was the pasta with white clam sauce - too saucy with several small shell pieces. A terrific go-to Italian Restaurant!
Cafe Barbosso! All you need for a great evening!
I can’t say enough about Cafe Barbosso. As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed by an amazing staff and sometimes by Joe DiMaggio, the owner. The place is crowded with folks anxious to eat family recipes of great Italian food. We shared a tomato pie as an appetizer. It was delicious. We all enjoyed different entrees and shared bites of all. Everything was so good! We happened to stop in on a night when Joe was doing an 8 course menu for the lucky folks at the oval bar set in the middle of the restaurant. We will try that next time. There is original art from floor to ceiling that is for sale.. and when we were there, there were two local artists working on their paintings. And, if that is not enough for an evening, there was a great band playing outside. Local folks pulled up in their cars and pickups, brought out lawn chairs and ordered pizza from the Cafe. Great experience for anyone visiting Sarasota. MAKE RESERVATIONS!

This place gets better every time we go!! Every menu item we try is amazing! Atmosphere is so cool and the service is great. (Tonight we had a great server, Evan) and the owner makes you feel like family. Highly recommend and look forward to going back many more times.
Nonni may never have to again prepare her tedious 6 hour famous eggplant parm!!
So happy we found Joe’s place. And Joe was there, ensuring everyone was satisfied with service and Italian food unsurpassed in Sarasota county. Although it was our first visit, by the end of our extended meal (and live music, and dessert, it was obvious to us that his dedication and passion were the reason!

The food and drinks were very good.
I don't love the bar seating, but we didn't have a reservation, so that was the only thing available.
Best eggplant parmigiana of my life.
Service, atmosphere and authentic Italian cuisine. Our favorite restaurant in Sarasota.
A Fun Restaurant
A very lively Italian restaurant. Food is not bad but it is the ambiance and activity that make the place special. We were seated by 3 artists who were working on actual paintings. Outside there was a very good band playing. The only negative for the evening was we were sitting under an air vent that was blowing cold air down on us for the better part of our time there. As the restaurant was full, we could not be moved to another table. We were supposed to dine at something called the Chef's Table featuring 9 different courses. Unfortunately Joe, the person who was to prepare and deliver these foods ended up in the hospital the night before so the special dinner was cancelled. Apparently the Chef's Table is a real fun culinary experience. Next time!
Good food and entertainment
We were there on a Friday evening. There was a really excellent jazz band playing. Service was very good. Food was authentic Italian and high quality.
Group gabfest
Great food and took two couples there for their first time. Busy but Rich did his best. food was great and delivered hot. All 8 of us had different dishes and all were happy with this choices.
Alla famiglia!
Been coming to Siesta Key for decades. How have we never been here?! Instantly a favorite place we’ll come back to forever. LOVE isn’t strong enough for how we felt about Barbosso. The food is incredibly good and servings ridiculously large. She had spaghetti with meatballs and their house made sausage (extra fennel which we LOVE) and my bride, who makes her own amazing sauce with Roma tomatoes from her garden, fell in love with theirs. I had chicken scapariello and it was wonderful. Check my pics! As amazing as the food was, the service really tops it all. The associate general manager, Joseph, took care of us from the moment we walked in, and he was just wonderful. Felt like an old friend right away and he’s clearly old friends with lots of the folks who were dining around us. I was stunned at the number of people taking care of customers all over this sizable restaurant. I counted 15 staff at a glance just right in front of me. While other restaurants are struggling to find employees, this place has obviously figured out a formula for an engaged staff, who loves their work and team. The 17 piece jazz band just outside after dinner was a lovely surprise!
Fabulous Food with an Attitude
To say Cafe Barbosso is just another Italian restaurant with good food, is like saying the Louvre is just another museum with good art. Like the Louvre, Barbosso showcases works of art on its walls, but its one-of-a-kind masterpieces can be found on the menu. Barbosso has good food, to be sure, but it offers so much more than a culinary experience. It offers a unique, sensory experience…with an attitude. As you walk in the door, the atmosphere illuminates all of your senses. The place is humming. Visually, the walls are adorned with eclectic, colorful works of art. You also see works of art in progress, as local artists busy themselves with their canvases. Masterpieces in the works. The aroma of garlic and spices permeate your nostrils. The big band that greeted you outside is muffled by cheerful conversation and laughter from the patrons inside. Tables full of multigenerational folks, eating family style, like in the old country. Barbosso is a collision of good food, art, and music. It has a vibe all its own, which heightens all of your senses. The place has an energy that is impossible to manufacture. Its sassy attitude is authentic and playful. Your first hint of this attitude is on the shirts worn by the staff. They read: “Eat your pasta, mind your business, and pay your bill.” Yep, this ain’t Olive Garden. You don’t just see the place, or smell the place, or taste the place. You feel it. Barbosso is an immersive dining experience. You can’t help but feel happy while you are there, and immensely satisfied when you leave. What makes the place work so well is the staff. They are everywhere. The service is personal and engaging, without being annoying. From the greeters, to the wait staff, the bartenders, cooks and table setters, they are efficient and chatty, with sly smiles and amusing stories. Characters one and all. Some of the staff have been there since the place opened in 2016. The staff are an obvious extension of their exuberant boss, Chef Joe. To know Joe’s story, you just need to read the menu. It’s a great read while you enjoy your first cocktail. The crown jewel of Cafe Barbosso is the Chef’s Table, available on Wed, Thur, Fri, and Sat. An eight course meal fit for Kings and Queens. Chef Joe is clearly in his element as he meticulously dishes up each plate. No one dares touch their plate until everyone has been served and the master has introduced the dish. After all at the table have their course in front of them, Joe bellows out, “LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOU ARE EATING!” He snaps off his latex serving gloves and shoots them across the room like rubber bands. This is where the attitude is personified… in its creator. Every dish has a story. Every ingredient, like the 40-year old balsamic, sourced from a prized domain known only to a privileged few. Joe says proudly, “The vegetables, basil, and micro greens come from a local organic farm, where we also get our marijuana.” You can tell he is only half joking. He probably doesn’t get all of his vegetables there. Joe explains the origins of the recipe of each dish. Many of the recipes are from a combination of the family restaurant he worked at as a child in Italy, and the authentic Italian restaurants he and every wise guy in NYC frequented in Brooklyn. When serving the dessert (by far the best Strawberry Short Cake I ever tasted), he bellows, “HOLLY SH*T PEOPLE! What is this?! How I wish I was you so I could make love to me!” The Chef’s Table is indeed a treat. 6:30 pm promptly. Limited seating. Reservations required. Book early. I doubt there are seats to be had when the snowbirds return. But worry not, if you can’t get a seat at the Chef’s Table, there are plenty of family-style tables and tables for two inside and outside on the patio. The patio is a particularly nice spot for enjoying the big band playing classics on the lawn outside. In fact, people come from all over Sarasota to tail gate the band and set up their lawn chairs on the sidewalks and grass outside of the cafe. No need to have reservations. No need to even be eating there. At Cafe Barbosso, it’s all about family and community. Here’s a secret tip. Pick a table just on the other side of the Chef’s Table. If there are any left overs after each course is served to those at the table, Joe is known to surreptitiously serve the leftovers to people sitting at the tables surrounding the Chef’s Table. No charge. Those diners lucky enough to be sitting on the periphery gasp like they just won the lottery. So go with your appetite, and with a good attitude. If you’re feeling down or pissy, don’t go. They won’t be having any of that. Just be prepared to bring home leftovers and need a full day to recover.

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate |
Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
No show reimbursement?
I am not sure if this isn't the case, but I was wondering if no show fees are reimbursed anymore? Support has read my request and proof for reimbursement, but I have yet to receive any substantial communication back nor a refund. Has anyone else had this problem?
Question
Why is bidding higher for time between 5-11pm vs 6-7pm? Sometimes when I go to bid between specific hours it is like $20 and I don’t mind upping it but why does it start so much higher for the range? I don’t want a 10pm res.
