Chicago Restaurant Visit
Wow! Beyond impressed with the experience here. Since it is Chicago's Restaurant week, we made reservations. At 6:30 on a Saturday, it was still fairly early for the area, so the place was not that busy. We got seated immediately and our waitress was great. She was very friendly, attentive and helpful in deciding what to choose off the menu (since everything sounded amazing). Our whole group chose to do the prefix menu for dinner for $42. I started with the House Made Ricotta (v) cherry pepper jam, honey, on toasted ciabatta. This was so creamy! The pepper jam definitely did have a bit of a spice, but in a good way. For the main entree I chose Braised Beef Barbacoa with parsnip polenta, and crispy brussels sprouts. The beef, again, had a bit of a spice to it, but the cook was incredible. The meat was so tender and juicy. The brussels sprouts were crispy, cooked to perfection. Everything was flavorful! For dessert, I tried the Key Lime Semifreddo (v) graham cracker with meringue. Wow! All in all, we were very impressed with the quality of food, service and ambiance of Cafe Robey. If you are in the area definitely stop in this cute restaurant.
Be the first to Replydecent food; shameful service! never again
I took several out of town relatives to a late lunch here during the week. The food was decent--not great, not bad. The service was very, very bad. Orders were incorrect. No one ever checked with us. When we returned the incorrectly prepared food (by walking ourselves to the counter), no one apologized. When the correct food was delivered, two of the three of us had eaten already. No one checked with us about the corrected food. No apologies. At first I thought that the fault was with management who had obviously not trained the (multiple) servers correctly. After a while, I realized that not only were they inadequately trained but that no one cared about our experience. There are many restaurants in this area. Never again, Cafe Robey. (And this is coming from someone who lives in the neighborhood.)
Be the first to ReplyBest hashbrowns ever!
I've had their breakfast sandwich, full breakfast, and eggs benedict. All three were awesome choices. But their hashbrowns are to die for. The service is wonderful and their coffee shouldn't be missed.

This cafe is part of a classic hotel in Bucketown, The Robey. The second floor lounge has a great seating area with good coffee.
Be the first to ReplyVery small room
My wife and I stayed one night at the Hotel Robey. The room was the smallest hotel room that we have ever seen. The clothes closet was tiny. The hotel lobby similarly minuscule. We went to the lounge on the second floor with another couple for a cocktail. The bartender was skilled and more than adept, but there was no server so I had to wait on line for at least 10 minutes while the bartender served others. .
Be the first to ReplyAmazing fries!!!
Beautiful building, super convenient to the Damon stop on the blue line with great food AND service (thank you, Chad). We came from the airport for dinner before heading downtown to our hotel and really enjoyed our meal. We started with cocktails, a cocchi americano with a gorgeous sprig of fresh rosemary for my daughter and I tried the Maplewood IPA special (the best IPA for an Allegash White drinker). We then shared exquisitely delicious fries - crispy, salty, w/a little Parmesan. I had the fried chicken/corn bread (not at all oily) with a delicious slaw and she, the rich smooth corn chowder and the squash with a 5-minute egg. We were too stuffed for dessert but managed to happily enjoy the two small chocolate chip cookies served with two shots of cold milk. It was a perfect meal and very good value at $65 before tip. My only ding is the ambiance is a little too open and feels more like a breakfast/brunch/lunch place. I would definitely go back for these.
Be the first to ReplyFood great . service to Roby Hotel, not so great
Called down twice to make a reservation on Valentine's Day. We were told we would receive a call back and never did. Breakfast we had in the room. It was wonderful!!! Maybe the best yogurt I've ever had. Called down for the creamer that was requested when we placed the order and they said they would bring it up. It never came.
Be the first to ReplyTop quality!!
Excellent food quality and impeccable service! Extensive selection of menu items and all top fresh quality. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Atmosphere is charming and noise level low. I will definitely dine here again.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful for breakfast
We went down for breakfast since we were staying at the hotel. It proved to be an excellent choice. The food was very good. The french toast that I ordered was the best that I've ever had. Service was professional and excellent. Usually if I thought that I wanted more coffee, our waiter offered it withing 30 seconds.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibe
We were out with friends on a Saturday night and had a cocktail in the 2nd floor lounge of Cafe Robey while awaiting entry to the Up Room, the top floor bar. Really liked the space--dark, great yellow-hued light from the street lighting the space through bug windows with cool blinds, modern furniture with clean lines arranged in groupings that did not feel crowded and invited conversation. Busy but not obnoxiously so; a DJ was playing lounge music at just the right volume. Great vibe overall. Service was pleasant but a little spotty; it was easy to find something on the brief cocktail list and all drinks were well-made. A great place to wait for the Up Room, but also a great destination on its own!

I stayed at the Robey Hotel and decided to try the Cafe based on convenience. I expected the ordinary coffee shop with simple breakfast and coffee. But I was totally surprised to find a true cafe with great array of food and wonderful coffee. I enjoyed it so much I went back for lunch and found another thoughtful menu and equally good quality food. I highly recommend giving the cafe a try.
