Carmelina's Boston Reviews
Great food, all kinds of different dishes to choose from.
Service is excellent Recommend making reservations to assure a table.
Came across this restaurant by chance while on vacation in
Came across this restaurant by chance while on vacation in Boston. We decided to stop in based on how good it smelled from the sidewalk. The gentleman (I believe he was the owner) that greeted us explained reservations were pretty booked right now, but if we were ok with leaving within 40 minutes (for the next reservation) we could sit at the stools near the kitchen. The kitchen is completely open, you get to see your food being made right in front of you, both chefs were very friendly. Drinks were good, pasta was amazing. Even with the limited time we did not feel rushed. Would definitely recommend!

Quaint little 14 top (?) restaurant that makes the hour and half time limit go by fast! (Headed to Mike's pastry after...) Make a reservation! They were very accommodating and very nice but you will get in with a reservation. Food portions are big enough to share but it's so good you will want your own. We had meatballs for starters. Light and full of flavor. Husband got the wild mushroom penne and I ordered the carbonara. Both were so delicious. Glad we went there and will definitely go back.
Excellent service and the food was delicious .
Had the eggplant, Milanese with angel hair pasta. Server recommended the wine that goes best with our order. 5 stars all around
Service was great and food was amazing.
I definitely recommend a reservation as it is a very coveted dining experience.
Make a reservation, saw so many walk in get turned away.
The bread was some of the best I've ever had and the food was just as good. The service was excellent and they were all friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Food was amazing.
We had the bolognese and chicken parm. Atmosphere was upbeat and fun. A visit to Carmelina's for lunch or dinner is a must! But book EALRY! Service was incredible. Everyone was so happy that we were there. Oh! And the best mimosas!!
The service and the food were both excellent.
My wife and I came to Boston recently for the first time and really wanted to eat here. Reservations were all booked, but I took the chance and walked in to see if they had room for 2 and we were seated immediately!!! The bread with oil/balsamic was a great way to start the meal. The bolognese with the whipped ricotta was top 5 best things I've ever eaten!!! I would travel back to Boston just to have that again. 5 stars for sure
In my Top 100 restaurants.
A Fantastic meal. It's worth the hype and high demand to get in. Wow! Where do I even start on this review? Small restaurant so getting in was/is a challenge as I made my reservation a month in advance. suggest sitting at one of the outside tables. Casual feel and dress code. Best restaurant in North End. No doubt. What I ordered at the table. Table side bread was fantastic. Tuna Ahi Arrabbiata - Had to pull this from menu. Seared rare sashimi grade ahi, mandoline potatoes, sweet and hot peppers, moroccan olive dressing. Wowzers, absolutely amazing taste and enjoyment. probably one of the best appetizers I have ever ordered at an Italian restaurant. Look at all my Italian reviews. This dish definitely goes in my top 100. it's the taste & creativity that makes this dish a top choice for me. Wow!. Puttanesca - Spicy Roman tomato sauce with garlic, capers, touch of sicilian anchovy paste and Kalamata olives. Wowzers. So yummy and fresh. Like I was eating in Italy which I have traveled to several times. A+ also ordered at the table was a bolognese dish, like you would expect. Wow, what big portion size. Just fantastic. The service was also good along with the glass of Italian wine. A+ highly recommended!

The food was amazing! Had the meatballs and they were delicious! Also had the eggplant appetizer and that was great as well. The pistachio crusted fish was also very good. It had a really nice sauce that complemented the entire meal. The potatoes were different and very good. even the vegetables that came with it were delicious. Overall really great experience and food. We actually went twice to this place and would love to visit Boston again just to stop in again!!!
Looking forward to returning!
Love coming to Carmelinaโs!; location, staff and menu all rate 5 stars! Staff interact well with their cohorts and customers; Delicious menu choices; no desserts: they share their clientele with Mikeโs and Modern Pastryโฆ ( nice touch!! Always crowded; never rushed. Crazy Alfredo and wild mushroom risotto have us salivating for a return visit. Bravo!๐
Delicious!
If you manage to get a reservation, come here! Very small inside and the tables due to this are close together but the food is out of this World. Freshly cooked at the open kitchen, the Crazy Alfredo was possibly the best Italian dish Iโve ever had. Simply sensational food.
First Time
Amazing food and the service unbelievable! Small but quaint! There's a waitjngnline usually! We sat beside a couple from Ohio and they said. They've been there numerous times when at school in Boston. Arrived at Logan Airport rented their car and drive directly here to eat. What's that tell ya!
Bring your appetite!!!
We didnโt realize itโs suggested to have a reservation before coming, but they were nice enough to work us into a small table anyway. Very small space, but the food more than makes up for it. Highly recommend. I also recommend to share your entree with a friend. Soooo much food!
Great place!!!
We went here for the first time, but our kids have been here many times before. Food is excellent - don't order too much as the portions are large - and the service great. Wine list is sufficient with nice Italian wines. Atmosphere perfect. And a great location right in the middle of Hannover Street. Perfect!
As Good as it Gets in the North End!
I absolutely love this place. Yes, it's small, loud, no bar and no dessert menu. There are some pretty strict rules too. Arrive on time, or you get put on a waitlist. Remember, this place has a weeks and months where you cannot get a reservation, especially on the weekends. You have 90 minutes to enjoy your meal. And I promise, you will enjoy your meal. The wine list is extensive whether you want a bottle or glass. The bread with olive oil and red pepper flakes gets it all started off right. All of the pasta dishes are made fresh in the open kitchen. The Sunday Macaroni, Lobster Ravioli and Bolognese are tremendous. The Bronx tale dish with the Meatballs and the Chicken Parm take you to the Sunday table at Nonna's. If you still want dessert, walk over to Modern Pastry for some Almond Macaroons, a svoyadelle or a cannoli. I always look forward to my next visit to Carmelina's!
The best Italian in the north end
I have tried a couple of times to make a reservation but never was able to find one. Today was different my wife and I were able to get in and we are glad we did. The service is excellent. Itโs a very small restaurant with visible kitchen. We started with appetizers of calamari and eggplant. Both were delicious. The gravy with the eggplant was amazing. We shared the Sunday dinner entree with sausage meatballs and short ribs. Everything was delicious. This is the best of Boston.
All and all... Perfecto!
Excellent food, Excellent service. Reasonable prices for the amount of food served. Stumbled upon it for a late lunch, Friday, and decided to return Sunday. We were lucky to be accommodated both times in under a half hour. We ordered and shared the same twice: the eggplant appetizer and the Sunday pasta dish with meatballs, short rib, and sausage... AND HAD LEFTOVERS! Their sauce is perfect. Limitless fresh rolls... Two minor-ish critiques. If they're going to keep the volume of the music as loud as they do, maybe play vibrant italian contemporary instead of chaotic NYC-style club music. Lastly, the ONE small, shared-gender bathroom could definitely use a hook(s) for a bag. Other than on the floor (uh, no) the only place to put my purse was on the soaking wet vanity counter. I accidentally knocked it and it fell into the close by dirty trash bin. Also they do not supply toilet seat covers or towels to dry your hands with only one of those air dry things.
Carmelinas is a must when in Boston
One of the best Italian meals in recent memory. The restaurant is small and they are limited in seating. RESERVATIONS SEEM TO BE AN ABSOLUTE MUST. Food was amazing. Will go back when in Boston.
Freaking amazing.
Loved the side risotto. Come in and know what you want- they will love you. We've been to Italy and this was up to par with it. Great experience.
Please - change the music !
First, let me say that the food was AMAZING. We went a little bit overboard with the menu, but ordered the Roasted Beet Salad, Chicken Parmesan, the Carbonara, Pasta with Bolognese sauce and the Sunday Macaroni. Total YUM! The only reason I rated Carmelina's "Very Good" rather than "Excellent" was the music. It was loud, overbearing House Music that made it difficult to converse with someone across the table. It's an Italian restaurant - how about some Italian music?
The tuna arrabbiata appetizer and pesce pistachio (cod),
The tuna arrabbiata appetizer and pesce pistachio (cod), main course were both very disappointing. Both lacked major flavor, something you wouldn't expect when paying $22 and $34 per dish. The only thing that kept this a four star review and not lower was the Sunday Macaroni dish. The penne was so good, you could tell it was homemade. The meatballs were to die for (wish we got those as an app instead of the tuna). Would come back to Carmelina's just for this dish!
Always a treat! Friendly staff, food is delicious
Always a treat! Friendly staff, food is delicious every-time . Highly recommend this as a dining option
The food was excellent and the service was great.
We loved the bolognese and the risotto.
Service was horrible.
We were there less than an hour and asked to leave after we paid, waiting for less than 10 minutes for our ride. Never in my life have I been asked to leave in that amount of time. Absolutely ridiculous. Food was amazing. Fire your waiters.

The restaurant is small, but we still got seated right at our reservation time and did not have to do any waiting. Food came out very quickly and was very hot. The scampy was very good and came with lots of garlic, which I love. The chicken parm was also delicious, with a large portion of chicken.

Our favorite place for Italian cuisine anywhere! Great for a romantic dinner with a date, families or alone at the bar!
Order anything from the menu and you will be pleased.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Boston. Make reservations!
Second time dining at this restaurant! Great food 2 times
Second time dining at this restaurant! Great food 2 times in a row! One dish is enough to feed two people!
Excellent food and hospitality quick service even though we
Excellent food and hospitality quick service even though we had 6 people. Highly recommend
Excellent - authentic - great service
The Caesar salad was perfect; crisp, with a flavorful dressing and a generous portion of anchovies. Followed by an entree sized risotto with prosciutto and pea. The latter was moist and tasted like home made - perfect. The staff were so attentive. My first visit but as a local, I will be back many times.
A Special Gem in the North End!!!
So glad we finally got into Carmelinas. We had an early dinner โฆ 3:00 and so worth it! Excellent service from all staff! Food was awesome! We started with beef carpaccio which was perfect to share on a hot day. For our mains we had Sunday macaroni and Fruitti Del Mar! Both fantastico!!!!! We had plenty to bring home for leftovers the next day! Keep doing what youโre doing!!
Terrific pasta, and a pleasant atmosphere
The food here was really outstanding. The best dish we had was the Crazy Alfredo, but the pasta carbonara was very good, and the mussels Fra Diavolo appetizer were also very good. The Italian wine was excellent for the price, $45 for a bottle of quite good Sangiovese. The weight staff were friendly, overworked, but efficient as well as pleasant.
Very disappointed
This was my second time getting a lunch at Carmelinaโs. This time was really disappointed, the service was terrible, no talk, just come and very rude. Horrible service and the price is really too much. The food was not so great, I missed more taste. Overall very disappointed, and the worst thing was I want to make a nice lunch with family visiting Boston. Totally disappointed.
Amazing food, less amazing service
The food here is lovely! They have a really good menu, I couldโve had so many of the dishes but went for the pasta capriciosse which I loved. All my family loved theirs as well but the only thing that lets this place down is the service. Itโs a very small restaurant so theres not too many tables but they had about 5 servers, roughly 2-3 tables per server so you would think theyโd be very attentive - but I found the opposite. Our server wasnโt very friendly and took a while to come to us to give us menus and order ect. No one came to check on us once weโd received our meals of top up our drinks.
MUST GO
Went for dinner at 4pm. Tiny place but a must go for the food. Food ratings below Risotto 7.7/10 Bread 7.0/10 Sunday macaroni 9.6/10 Crazy Alfredo 9.3/10 Carbonara 7.9/10
Itโs worth besides the service
Food is very good, service is the worst. They were rude and in personal. I had a brasato with risotto and it was great. In average, 3 stars.
Good food, unfriendly service and insane expensive prices for kids
The food was delicious. We were there with my 3 year old daughter. Unfortunately the service was not really friendly. A big surprise was the check. They charged us 22$ for plain pasta for our little one. This is a reason why I will never come back.
Great fun dinner
Wow - this meal was a lot of fun. Its the North End - so things are busy, and slightly chaotic - but this is to be expected. Food here was great, servers seemed a bit over capacity, but everything was still great, and as a family we had a lot of fun.
I have to mention their service.
The warm and friendly staff make people feel doubly warm, providing attentive and thoughtful service to customers. The comfortable and pleasant environment allows people to enjoy the food to the fullest while relaxing their minds.
This restaurant served the best Italian food I've ever had
This restaurant served the best Italian food I've ever had in the United States. I went here on the recommendation of some friends, and it's probably the best they've ever made! It's a small restaurant, which makes for a very intimate dining experience, but it also means you need to try to get reservations as far in advance as possible. I had the Meatballs as an appetizer, and the Chicken Parmesan as my main; both items were the best I've ever had, respectively. The portions are very big, so you definitely won't leave hungry. The restaurant has a strict time limit on entry and exit, but personally, I see that as a positive - - if they didn't operate this way, far fewer people would be able to experience this wonderful culinary experience. They happily make recommendations for dessert options, nearby, as well, if you are interested in continuing to socialize. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, and I only hope that I have enough advance notice of my future trips to Boston to allow me to get reservations!
Amazing food and great service.
The Sunday Macaroni was Just what I was craving on a chilly Sunday afternoon when I was in town last week. Will definitely go back!
We ordered the chicken parm and the mushroom cream pasta
We ordered the chicken parm and the mushroom cream pasta for lunch. It was good, big portions but still pretty pricey. No one asked us if we wanted a beverage so we just had the water we were served. The bread service was excellent, served with olive oil, balsamic and parm. The bread slices were small, wished they had been a bit bigger. The chicken parm was very good. The mushroom pasta was undercooked. I love my pasta al dente but this tasted a bit raw. The service was subpar at best. The gentlemen serving us acted like they were doing us a favor. The dining room space is tight so be prepared to wait and to be very close to your neighbors--which would totally be worth it if the food was spectacular but it was just meh for us.
*** 4.
5 stars *** Worth the wait (if you don't have a reservation)! Delicious everything and even better service. When we asked for an extra box to take the bread home because our mom liked it, they threw extra bread in the box (so kind!). For 3, with leftovers: Frutti di Mare Wild Mushroom Pesto Pan Roasted Chicken Breast The pasta was perfect. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, just yum. The chicken was also well cooked a nice complement to the pasta. Don't think you can go wrong here!
Found this place at random for a late dinner.
All I can say is... AMAZING!!! I had the lobster ravioli and it is to die for. Thanks!!!
This is in my opinion the best in the North End.
We absolutely love it! Ask for crazy Alfredo.
The tuna arrabiata and meatballs were fantastic! However,
The tuna arrabiata and meatballs were fantastic! However, the clams were gritty and needed a bit more cleaning. Atmosphere was nice and service was good.
Food was very good.
Not the best. But really good, nonetheless. HUGE portion sizes. Very good wine choices by the glass. Lots of them! Would I go back? In a freakin' heartbeat!!!!
good food the nice pol nbs are the best in the world I have
good food the nice pol nbs are the best in the world I have ever seen in my life and I am so happy to see it in
Small family owned Italian spot with delicious food.
The place stays packed so make reservations in advance. Everything we tried was delicious. Save room for cannolis across the street at Mikes Pastries. Parking in this area, especially on the weekend, is a chore so take a ride share or plan to walk. Paul Revere house is just around the corner.
