This place made our trip to Oaxaca we had to go twice! The best bites I had were the chile de agua ceviche, the crab tostada and the ribeye. We will definitely we coming back. Beautiful atmosphere and the service was some of the best I've had. Drinks were amazing too. Highly recommend if you're ever in Oaxaca.

We were lucky to get a table here for our last night in Oaxaca, and what a table it was—gorgeous breezy views of the floodlit Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. I We had eaten ourselves silly in Oaxaca, so we were looking for something light. The chef was happy to oblige. My vegetarian husband really loved the ricotta-stuffed calabaza flores and the roasted beets with mole. I was delighted with the scallops—perfection!—and mushroom/hoja santa soup. We couldn’t resist going for dessert, just to try mamey sapote (because why wouldn’t we?) and were glad we could manage it. I can’t account for the grumpy reviews here. We were glad we took the recommendation of a young couple we met. Great place, and we’ll be back next time!
Great food and service!
We ate here two nights. It is one of my favorite restaurants. The service is exceptional and the food is amazing. Also the best desserts I have ever had. We love this restaurant.
Simply Exquisite
Exquisite restaurant.. amazing meals served by knowledgeable and nice waiters… honestly a must do as you won’t regret. On top, the place is beautiful !
Naueseating and roaches in the tortilla chips
The most horrible food imaginable. It started with the live cockroach in the tortilla chips. The pescadillas were globby with fake cheese and had no visible fish. The breaded shrimp was. All bread an no shrimp. The shrimp was inedible and the waitress was invisible. The worst experience ever in a Mexican seafood joint
Best meal in Oaxaca
Best meal in Oaxaca. (Even better >>> than Los Danzantes). Highly HIGHLY recommend the Tételas rellenas de requesón, con epazote (herbs) y escamoles (ant larvae). Tamarind Mezcal cocktail was sublime.

From the service, to the drinks and food. Delicious and flavorful! A beautiful location overseeing the busy colorful street. Must try if you are in Oaxaca.

Really zero stars but I had to put something down.
Trust the reviews that detail poor, completely indifferent service. It felt like we were in a diner and not a highly-regarded restaurant. The servers paid no heed to anyone, nor did they greet us at the beginning or offer any explanation of the menu or any dishes. If the food was good, I suppose we could overlook the gaping black hole in the service, but nope. Only the crab tostada was worth ordering. We are trying to pay our bill so we can salvage our night but servers are ignoring us, so I suppose I have time to write this at the table.

Had the Sashimi appetizer, it obviously was plated ahead and refrigerated, the slices of fish and scallops were stuck to the plate when served. Had the Rabbit entree, which was pretty tasty. The serving portions on both the appetizer and main dish were minuscule. Overall, my experience was just okay. Would I recommend, probably not.

There are two locations. The main one is slightly difficult to get reservations for however, if you arrive right when they open, they will take you. I'm sure they take walk ups throughout their business hours, but I'm not sure how long the weight would be, which is why I suggest going right when they open. We sat on the second level and had a nice view of the church next-door. Now let's get to the food. They made complimentary tableside salsa which included Oaxaca's famous crickets (crickets are optional)! Don't worry, you can't taste them! The food was delicious and the presentation matched. We had the Chile de agua stuffed with ceviche, served on a sweet and sour passion fruit sauce, sweet potato. This was my favorite! It was light and refreshing, and the sauce was the perfect addition! The chili wasn't spicy until I got closer to the end of it, then there was a real kick! We also ordered a quesadilla, the bean soup, beef cheek tostada, and the corn tostada which had chicatana ants, grasshoppers, & agave worms! Yes, I've provided photos of all the plates. One of the best cocktails I've had in a VERY long time was their daqueri! We couldn't figure out what fruit was used, but it was delicious! More on the citrus side and not so sweet, just how I like it! They also have a house beer, but unfortunately, they ran out when I was there. This is definitely an upscale restaurant and very romantic! I would come back again!

Yo ordené un mole con costillas- chef's kiss, wow! Delicioso! Tomamos margaritas con mezcal. Ordenamos un guacamole que hacen en la mesa. No sentamos en el balcony. La vista fue bonito y romántico. Un lugar para una cita o con amigos! Todo me encanto.

Outstanding service!! Visited this wonderful restaurant twice at the end of November during our stay in Oaxaca, the food was delightful and the service was superb to say the least. Christian went above and beyond to make our experience a memorable one! He made a salsa in a molcajete at our table describing each fresh ingredient adding the perfect amount of heat to go with the big crispy tostada with beans and cheese they bring to your table. He also gave me some chapulines, they were citrusy and delicious with the salsa and crispy tostadas. My friend and I had the frijolones bean soup which he recommended and WOW, the smoky earthy flavors were insanely good, what a pleasant surprise! I also had the perfectly seasoned and roasted cauliflower in a peanut mole sauce that absolutely blew my mind! My friend had the short rib in mole sauce dish, she devoured it and said it was the best meal she had on our trip! We enjoyed a very late dinner on the beautiful rooftop with a view, the ambiance and soft music playing in the background was perfection. After paying, we chatted with Christian about some of our lovely adventures in Oaxaca and how we loved the city and the people, we told him that it was our last night which happened to be my birthday, he stepped away and surprised us with a sample of mezcal and a heavenly beautiful little cake with a sparkly candle as he and the staff sang to me!! I was overwhelmed with gratitude. What an absolute perfect ending to my trip, he truly made it a magical one! I will definitely be back one day! Thank you for the generosity and unexpected moments of kindness, Christian! Unforgettable experience! Bravo Chef Ruiz!

The food was delicious and the ambiance was great! I would not recommend if you have a bigger appetite than most. I ordered the rib eye and it was delicious but not the quantity I expected. The experience was great overall but portion sizes could be bigger.

From the table side fresh hot sauce to the presentation of my two starters,that I chose instead of an entree,everything was excellent. Presentation was very good and service was excellent. I came without a reservation,which I do Not recommend,but was by myself and they accommodated me which usually does not happen. Dessert was an Almendra dish which looked great and tasted even better. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Casa Oaxaca has it all -- beautiful ambiance, great service, excellent drinks and perfectly prepared food. It's one of the fancier restaurants in Oaxaca but in an accessible way. We sat on the terrace which I highly recommend, it's lovely. We loved both salad to begin our meal - very fresh, light yet delicious. For mains, we loved the lamb and braised beef. A must visit in Oaxaca!

The food was impeccable, the service was excellent and the ambiance was lovely. Above all, the food was delightful. The salsa made in the molcajete was so good and comes as a courtesy part of the dining experience. The tostada de insectos was balanced with the insects crunchy, the pescado del día was fresh and cooked to perfection and the paisaje rocosos was an exquisite dessert with cacao and rosita de cacao.
This is one of Oaxacas Premire authentic food restaurants.
The food is prepared as described and the taste is out of this world. We tasted all 6 molé sauces; My favorite is the white molé. I had the Lechón in a bed of molé negro, herb rice and banana puré along with hand made salsa. I am very particular about my pork and this hit the perfection mark for me. No extra nerves and no excess grease. The service was calm kool and collective. They share their knowledge of each dish that is prepared for you, even the bread. We sat in a small plaza area which was super pleasant and no weird smells.
Staff was not hospitable all--horrible service.
I would not recommend it, other restaurants have better service and food.

We read some of the above reviews and were a tad concerned, but our experience was supurb. No miss-steps with the service and the food was very well prepared and delicious. Started w green salad and squash blossoms, followed by our mains (tongue, duck, short ribs & venison). Per my guests: Venison 4/5, slightly tough, but it's venison (my interpretation) Short Ribs 5/5 Tongue 6/5 Duck 5/5 (my meal) ¡Buen provecho!

My boyfriend and I visited Oaxaca in summer 2023 and managed to get a table at Casa Oaxaca before our vacations ended. This place did not disappoint. The table side salsa with chapulines and the squash blossoms were my absolute favorite. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable of the ingredients. The desserts were the perfect way to end our night (we tried the mamey mouse and the mole negro ice cream). Definitely recommend this place, especially on a clear day if you can get a rooftop table.

As nice as the physical space is, the food didn't match up for us. The service and ambiance on the roof was excellent, the appetizers, salad and dinners were underwhelming. Over dressed salad. Salty, inedible, and returned main course. Maybe it was an off night.

Casa Oaxaca was recommended to me by numerous friends and internet lists, so of course I had to go check it out. My friend and I were looking forward to our reservation given all the hype, and our experience fell short First off, the ambiance of the restaurant really depends on where you are seated. There is an indoors downstairs area, and a large outdoor terrace. The best seat in the house is the one on the terrace facing Santo Domingo - the vibes are completely different in the other spots. The food and presentation itself was mediocre, and felt a bit gimmicky. For the price that we paid, it was disappointing that this didn't even make it into our top 3. La Cevicheria Oaxaca, my personal favorite in Oaxaca, was a fraction of the price and way better taste and value wise.

Cas Oaxaca was a nice meal, but underwhelming and more touristy-feeling compared to other restaurants in Oaxaca. The upstairs terrace is lovely with a view of the church and courtyards below. The plates were all beautifully deconstructed, especially the dessert, but we found the flavors were lacking. There was less richness and depth - everything we tried was pretty good, but nothing we ordered was amazing. Interestingly enough, this restaurant had the best salsa I tried in Mexico - it comes out before your order and you can get it with grasshoppers (a must)!The service was also pretty slow - we had a thirty minute wait for our check at the end of the night. But it was fairly priced and, like I said, everything was pretty good. I wouldn't recommend, but I could be persuaded to go back.

I would give it four stars. The dishes were very creative. The ambiance very pleasant. Unfortunately the service was terrible.We waited almost 50 minutes before being brought salsa and tortillas even though we ordered drinks and a first dish soon after sitting down. We seemed to be ignored by the waiter and when our main course was served the main that came was not what we ordered, steak was delivered, not the rack of lamb (it eventually arrived).Our waiter appeared to be busy setting up other tables, we were never asked how we felt about the food and while I normally like at least sampling a postre, I didn't out of sheer dislike of the energy required to get any attention.As a final note, the waiter, when he did appear, spoke very rapidly despite knowing we were not completely fluent in Spanish. We couldn't understand a word he said.

Their mole is truly incredible!!Beautiful venue, pleasant staff, but they mostly speak Spanish, so ordering might be a bit difficult.
Lovely setting and good service.
Very good cocktails. Overall an easy place to enjoy. The food is specifically dumbed-down for the American/Canadian crowd and is perfect for "Oaxaca-light" when you want to just put a toe in the water. We vastly prefer a more full-bodied approach we found almost next door, but entirely fine.

An excellent meal all around and a setting on the Terrazza that can't be beat! We were served two of the wrong main courses and then charged for them, and then seemed to be blamed for the problem, so that was a bummer. But when the Camarones did appear, they were absolutely and perfectly delicious.

Every course a surprise but in a good way. A drink with a forest of herbs, roast pork in a caper mole, table side made salsa all on a roof overlooking the cathedral. Jazz music wafting up from the zocalo. Awesome!

I was looking for a snack really and got their mahi-mahi which was perfectly serviceable but not remarkable. The table side salsa was unexpected and knocked my socks off. Wow was that beautiful and tasty.

I had high expectations for this dining experience and was greatly disappointed. To start with, the service was horrible. The waiter didn't write down our order and proceeded to forget items. We had to remind 4 different waiters 6 times total to bring my husband's drink (chocolate de agua which was delicious but is served fast elsewhere). They forgot one of our appetizers. We ordered water which was 90 pesos. They poured my water in my glass and then I realized my glass was dirty. They replaced my glass but didn't replace the water that I paid for nor was there any apology... We ordered another bottle of water which was then forgotten. I ordered the green salad & catch of the day. Both were good, but not worth the price. The salsa however was delicious and the star of the show. When it came to getting the bill we had to ask 5 times over 20 minutes to different waiters walking by for our check. The take away is that this restaurant is not worth the price for what you get. There are plenty of other fine dining restaurants in the area with superior service and food (danzantes, zandunga, vaca y marina...)

The view from the rooftop is breathtaking, especially in the evenings. Food is delicious. The chile relleno was very good but had a weird fruit/sweet sauce that accompanied it. Wasn't my favorite thing. The tacos were great. Meat was cooked perfectly, and juicy. The shrimp entree was phenomenal. Huge shrimp, bursting with flavor. The dessert came recommended by my waiter and it was sooo good! Really, really great place.

Seriously the BEST meal I had in Oaxaca in my 7 day visit there. I was torn between Casa Oaxaca and Criollo and ended up doing both and IMHO Casa Oaxaca blew away any competition. From the mezcal-tini to the tableside grasshopper salsa to the mole negro de pavo (turkey) - everything was delicious, creative and cooked to perfection. The service was also impeccable and beyond friendly. I was dining alone as my travel partners had not arrived yet and am always a little nervous about doing fine dining alone, but the waiter made me feel incredibly comfortable and was so friendly. As others have mentioned, try to sit on the upstairs patio as you can't beat the views and ambiance. It really is a not to be missed experience in Oaxaca!

* FamousStation67, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* FamousStation67 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FamousStation67 for any questions Peter may have as FamousStation67 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FamousStation67 now uses their connections at Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FamousStation67 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FamousStation67 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FamousStation67's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
