Cassia Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Tasteless food
Unfortunately, the food was not as described in the good comments. It say Michelin rated!? Well, not even a simple street food quality. Sorry! Usually, I do not write reviews but couldn’t pass this time taking prices under consideration.
Cassia, Santa Monica
Was a really solid place. Ordered several dishes and shared. The papaya salad was fantastic but not tradition spicy Thai style. Green in color like a salad, very fresh and refreshing. Great flavor. The chickpea curry was actually the one dish I wasn’t excited about and ended up being the best dish hands down. The flavor just poured through the taste buds. Well balanced in spice, texture and overall flavor. The naan like bread was perfect compliment. The beef rendang was a double edged sword. The meat was so perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth but unfortunately the rest of the component didn’t really pull the whole dish together and it lacked in overall flavor. Next was Spicy Minced Duck Dan Dan Noodles. I liked the texture of the noodles and the dish was cooked perfectly but I did not care for the sauce, however it was a 50/50 split on preference of flavor on this dish and the sauce. Next was the Kon Loh Mee noodles. They were my second favorite dish. The pork belly was cooked down so well, literally no fat and really enhanced the overall quality of the dish had it been traditional fatty pork belly. Finished of with the banana foster pudding which was like a fine piece of of banana crème pie. Outstanding for me as a banana lover. The second desert I’ve never cared for but the wife loves and said based on comparison was excellent and that was the line leaf custard basically like a key lime pie. Had a Thai Basal Margarita as well and was very pleased with that. Sorry I missed pictures on this meal but I’d certainly visit again. The staff was a 10/10 and the ambiance was well balanced inside and out.
A Elevated Creative Level of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Cuisine
This was our first visit to Cassia based on the recommendation of our friend, Wolfgang Puck. The longish drive from Redondo Beach was well worth it. There is valet parking, but also plenty of street parking. There is spacious indoor and outdoor dining areas. Our reservation was at 5:30 so we had the restaurant to ourselves for awhile. It filled up by the time we left ~ understandable. The creativity and caliber of food were superb. We brought some good friends for this experience who based their evaluations on how a restaurant compared to top Pasadena restaurants. They both exclaimed Cassia blew away their expectations, and we all agreed it was in a class of its own. Our server tried to be helpful in the number and types of dishes available that evening. We started with an incredible medium sized seafood tower. It was not explained that only the large tower would have lobster. This tower was unique and delightful with grilled Vietnamese “sunbathing” prawns, marinated spicy scallops, a smoked swordfish and salmon caviar dip, snow crab claws and two types of oysters with three tasty sauces. What we really appreciated was the plethora of fresh cilantro, micro cilantro and Thai basil. This was a great start to a memorable dinner. Their wine list offers a vast variety of which I selected a very nice Coeur de Terre Oregon Pinot from Willamette Valley which went perfectly with our dishes. For the wine oriented folks, Cassia has not one, but two sommeliers on the premises. A special watermelon and cucumber salad was so tasty with contrasting spiciness. We also ordered their Beef Rendang which is the best I’ve tasted, as well as the delicious chickpea curry with light and crisp oven bread. We finished with their spicy minced duck dan dan noodles. This was the only dish that disappointed in being too salty with the minced duck lacking flavor. We finished with a tasty Vietnamese coffee pudding and a Brovo #4 Rhubarb digestif which peaked our curiosity. This was an incredibly delicious dining experience which we will be talking about for some time. The blend of flavors was terrific with a good degree of spiciness. We look forward to returning to work our way through their very impressive menu.

Good question. Currently the bidder will have to include the prepaid dinner price plus bid to secure the reservation. AT is currently working on an upcoming release where the prepaid amount and the bid amount are two separate transactions. Happy Bidding!
