Great food reasonable prices.
Pork buns, shumai and chicken curry katsu all super tasty. Great service, friendly and relaxed vibes. When in DC, get out of the bubble near the White House where prices are 3 times what they are just a short 10 minute ride away.
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of the nicer ramen spots you'll come across.
I got the opportunity to try it out in a Sunday afternoon just missed brunch but conveniently in time for their weekend happy hour which runs from 4-7pm. It has a very classic decor with multiple levels, bars, and ample patio seating. The menu features a variety of items such as their mazemen ramen options, standard ramen options in flavors like miso, curry, and shoyu with different available add-ons, and appetizers like chicken and shrimp shumai, karaage, and 4 different gyoza options with prices ranging from $10-$20. During happy hour wines, draft cocktails, and draft beers are 50% off. I ordered a couple of mimosas, pork gyoza, and the Chaplin ramen with chicken substitutes. Service was good there wasn't much of a crowd during that time but the servers were engaged and helpful with recommendations. The pork gyoza were solid with a nice crispy texture on the outside, and the ramen was excellent, a thick delicious broth, fresh tasting ingredients, and the karaage was perfectly fried as well. Overall great dining experience and I definitely recommend checking them out.

We had a great time hosting a birthday dinner on the upstairs floor, big party of 15 and the service was amazing. They did an amazing job staying on top of it and attending to all the people in our group, despite having another huge birthday group in the other room. I was very impressed! Our food and drink tasted really good as well. The server lit the rosemary stem in my drink on fire at the table to smoke out the aromatics which was fun to see. And all the sauces that went with our dishes were very tasty.

Embark on a delightful culinary adventure at this charming spot, where savory ramen and creative cocktails take center stage. As someone who appreciates a good bowl of ramen, I can confidently say that this place hits all the right notes. The flavors are bold and satisfying, leaving you feeling fully content. And don't forget to try the fried gyoza - it's the perfect complement to your meal. The ambiance here is cozy and intimate, with soft lighting that sets the scene for a relaxed and romantic evening, ideal for a date night. And the service? Top-notch every time, ensuring that you're well taken care of from the moment you step through the door. Whether you're a ramen aficionado or just looking for a delicious meal, this spot won't disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyChaplin is a true gem for ramen enthusiasts in DC.
Their one-of-a-kind chicken ramen is an absolute must-try - flavorful, comforting, and truly unforgettable. But that's not all - their happy hour, available seven days a week, is a solid choice for those looking to unwind with delicious drinks and bites. Whether you're craving a satisfying bowl of ramen or seeking a great happy hour spot, Chaplin delivers on all fronts. Don't miss out on this culinary experience! The ambiance and service are solid. The ambiance theme is centered around Charlie Chaplin.

We didn't have reservations but it was a weeknight, so it worked out well and we were seated immediately. I ordered the Chaplin A.S.S., which was the right amount of spicy and sour. I also added a stamina egg and bamboo shoots! The fried wontons were good, but I wasn't mesmerized. The service was slower but once we ordered our food, the ramen came out pretty fast!

The vibes of the restaurant were fun and cozy especially on a cold winter day. We were seated in this nice round booth which had an open view of the restaurant and outside. Service was quick and the food came relatively at the same time. We got the gyoza, wontons, yakisoba, and the vegetarian ramen. The good thing about this menu was the plethora of vegetarian options. We got the vegetarian gyozas prepared steamed but there is the fried option as well. The yakisoba was a bit too sweet but largely flavorless apart from that. The vegetarian ramen was really good! It's hard to find vegetarian ramens generally and finding good vegetarian ramen is even harder. Overall the food was good but nothing extraordinary.

My partner and I frequent Chaplins a few times a month just to get the Chaplin's A.S.S. It is delicious!

It's a late night spot I love. With or without reservations, it has been quick to get seated.
Be the first to ReplySuper cool atmosphere.
Great happy hour. The apps were great, the ramen better and dessert finished us right. Cocktails on point with very knowledgeable bar team. Service was perfect. Great for an impromptu date and worth the trip from Alexandria. Washington Post article was right. Will make this one of our new spots. Management and team here really has it together.
Be the first to Replyhappy hour and overall vibes were great.
my drink was delish, and affordable. ramen was okay, not great. still on the hunt for the best ramen in DC. service was fast, attentive and reminded us when the happy hour was about to close which was much appreciated!
Be the first to ReplyA friend and I went here for dinner last night.
The place is very cozy and quaint in the Shaw neighborhood. We had a reservation that we got pretty fast and the table was ready when we arrived. The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is because the bartender seems like they didn't want to be bothered last night. I understand everyone has a bad or off day, which I am not taking that away, and I will probably come again for happy hour. We got there in the middle of happy hour, and we were seated upstairs at the bar area. For the cocktails, we ordered the A Day of Pleasure and Woman in Paris. We realized cocktails are literally the same ingredients minus one ingredient. They drinks were really strong and tasted more like an old fashioned without the smoke. We order the gyoza appetizer and the mazemen Ramen.. The dumplings were great, and the ramen was very flavorful. Overall we had a great time, it was a bit of noise but that was expected due to it being happy hour time. I can tell they are always filled because the food is really good. Will definitely plan to return in the future, maybe during the summer, to experience outdoor seating.

Friendly greeting when we first walked in and the food and ambiance was great. Loved how they have mouth wash and mints in the restrooms. Going back tonight!

Great vibes! I made a Saturday night 7 pm reservation the week before just in case and I'm glad I did. The restaurant was packed when we visited. The traditional Gyoza and Fried Wontons were tasty and great for sharing. I would order these again. I was also happy with the Chaplin Ramen and my vegetarian friend was happy with the Veggie Shio Ramen. Good food that doesn't break the bank. Definitely plan to come back here.
Be the first to ReplyThis place surprised me, in a good way.
We came here as a group of 7 on New Years Day, as a late night dinner around 9/10pm. They were serving the full menu, this place was bumpin' with loud 2000-2010's hits. The bar seemed lively, and we sat at a table nearby facing the sidewalk windows. The ramen, I'll be honest, I did not have big expectations for. There's a lot more well known ramen spots in D.C. and I've tried most of them. But I'm so surprised. My friends all enjoyed their Tonkotsu Chaplin ramens, and I actually really liked the Shoyu chicken broth ramen. The pork belly was good, and egg too. Noodles were good. Broth was flavorful without being too heavy. Everything was delicious.Overall, this spot has good reviews for a reason, and I'm glad I got to try it out on a whim with some friends.
Be the first to ReplyLove coming here for happy hour.
Amazing happy hour deals!! Yummy cocktails and ramen. You can probably get slightly better ramen for cheaper at other places, but you're definitely paying for the fun ambiance. Can be slightly too loud and hard to hear sometimes.

Continuing my tour of restaurants outside of downtown and Georgetown with my guy, I visited Chaplain's for the first time this past Saturday. Long overdue considering that I had my eye on this place when they first opened up before Covid. Well better late than never; right? This is a cute, hipster ramen and cocktail spot. Nestled in the Shaw or is it Logan Circle neighborhood at 9th and P Street NW: Street parking was fairly easy to find around 5pm if you're willing to walk a few blocks. Not having reservations, we easily found seating at the upstairs bar which has an authentic view of the city's historic neighborhood. Views aren't just monuments and the mall.As for food and drink, it was really delicious. Also, they have Happy Hour from 4 to 7 on Saturday! The cocktail names pay homage to Charlie Chaplin's movies and most are half off during happy hour. My cocktail, The Vagabond tasted like a stronger version of a Pimms cup. Our bartender, Alexa was very friendly and responsive to our requests. My ramen called the Mappo Maze was delicious. It consisted of ground pork and tofu in a slightly spicy broth. I added some gyoza which were crispy and bok choy to give it more texture and veggies.Overall I highly recommend for creative cocktails and Asian fusion ramen.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was just ok.
The ramen I had was the A.S.S. MAZE. It very tasty but a bit overpriced at $17.00, in my opinion. The shumai was luke warm and that affected the taste. It also didn't taste very fresh. Maybe like they were left over from the day before. The drinks I had were good. I'd probably try somewhere else before I returned to this spot.

You really can't go wrong coming here! I came here with my coworkers after a team building event and we had a great time. The food and cocktails are all amazing. I got the stamina spicy ramen and have already been wanting to go back to get it again, 2 days later.

This place was awesome! The Ramen was very flavorful and the appetizers were juicy! I ordered a side of hot chili oil with the Ramen and it gave it just the right amount of spice. Service was very quick and she brought me glasses of Riesling as soon as the last glass was empty. Ambiance was cool due to the mixed theme of Charlie Chaplin and Asian inspired cuisine. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any

This place is just amazing! I went back here with a group of friends but this time I was trying to stick to my first and consider the meat amount of carbs possible. With that being said I ordered the pork brother ramen with vegetables instead of the noodles and it was just as good. Service was A1 as well but that's to be expected.

Top notch place. There's also an upstairs that's a little hidden, but worth checking out.

Chaplin's has been on my list since I moved here and I finally visited for the first time 3 weeks ago and have since been back twice (because they are that good)! For starters, the ramen is phenomenal! The first time I visited I opted for the miso ramen and was blown away. After having tried another establishment the prior week and being unimpressed, I was searching for some excellent miso ramen and Chaplin's delivered. YUM! The next time I visited I went for happy hour, which to my surprise is everyday from 4-7 pm including weekends! I had "A Day's pleasure" which was really good and also shared some shumai and fried wontons with the table. And by some I mean several orders because, again, they have delicious food! Each visit I have sat in different places, including upstairs in their bar area by the window and downstairs in their more "formal" dining space. All experiences have been wonderful with great, prompt service and good eats. If you're looking for a place to grab some ramen or enjoy an afternoon happy hour Chaplin's is the place to be.
