But the service (in the back patio) was comical. As soon as we sat down were were told in a scolding voice by our waitress that we had to order everything all at once, for the entire meal. We tried to order a small dish with our drinks while waiting for our last person and we were told no we cannot do that--so they really meant it! The order of timing of the service was poor. For example, we ordered wine when our drinks ran out and we basically went through our whole meal before the wine came, which took about 20 minutes, all told, to make the long journey of 20 feet from the bar. At some point we thought we saw our bottle sitting waiting for us on a serving table. We asked a busboy about it (could not flag down our waitress for 15 minutes) and he said it was not ours. Eventually it turns out it was ours and they brought it to us at close to the end of the meal. (We waited to finish our meat for the wine, which then meant it was cold, but that was our choice.) The waitress poured the wine and literally grunted and walked away. (We had not had any bad interactions with her to solicit this.) One time the waitress came and refilled one of our wine glasses and walked away without filling the others' which gave the table a big laugh. (That was less important than the long wait for the bottle.) Not a great experience for a $130 bottle of wine. It was not entirely her fault since it seemed like there was only one server for the entire back area. Such an odd experience for a high end restaurant. We were having fun so we let it all slide, but we cannot imagine Josiah Citrin had this experience in mind when he set up the place. With the 2.5% kitchen tip on the bill plus the 20% they default to, that's 22.5% tip on what was pretty poor service. I am not looking for a refund or anything like that, just putting it out there since I suspect the mangers of the establishment would want to remedy this. If it were fixed it would be the kind of place I'd make a regular, but not like this.
