We were visiting and this place is so cute and right along the river bank. Good vibes, music playing, nice ambiance. It was fairly busy around 5pm on a weekday but thankfully no wait. We ordered just apps but was happy with everything we got. Nachos were truly loaded, and the kabobs weren't dry at all. Definitely a cute place to try out!
Be the first to ReplyI really enjoyed my dinner at Chiwahwah Mexican Cantina.
I was lucky to get a table without a booking, even for just a party of one. So I recommend making a booking if you plan on dining here. I ordered the roasted cauliflower, that came with a romesco sauce, a fish taco, and one of their sangrias. Everything was delicious! I love roasted cauliflower and theirs definitely ticks all the boxes. It was perfectly charred on the outside and soft on the inside. The romesco sauce was bright flavors from the acidity of the tomato, which paired well with the smokiness of the cauliflower. The fish taco was good too! It wasn't greasy despite it being fried. It came with capers, which I don't actually like, but in this taco it was yummy and needed with the fish. The sangria was comprised of rosé, mint, and strawberries. It was light and fruity. Service was excellent! The staff made sure I was doing fine throughout my meal. The atmosphere is vibrant and loud. Chiwahwah's seems to be more of a fusion restaurant, but I don't think they advertised themselves as a traditional Mexican restaurant anyway. If you want good food with Mexican-inspired flavors, definitely check them out.

Had dinner here the day before leaving to return home from our holiday in New Zealand. Got to a table quickly but it was excruciatingly slow the rest of the night. Server forgot drink orders and we had to remind her several times before they were brought to us. The establishment is on the louder side when it comes to voices from nearby tables and the music playing through their sound system. Their only saving grace was the food. It was great. It was definitely not Mexican though. I would categorize it more as a fusion between New Zealand and Mexican, so Kiwi-Mexican. Although the food tasted great it is a little misleading to brand themselves as a Mexican Cantina. Would recommend giving it a try and take a gamble on the possibility of getting better service.
