This is a tough one.
First of all, as a Korean I know how to make soon tofu and I've made it before myself. They are clearly making their soon tofu from a beef bone broth base and NOT from an anchovy soup base. It gives a totally different umami flavor profile. Restaurants use a beef bone broth base because it's easier and faster to do (as it comes in cheaper packets). However, in order to get the true umami flavor of soon tofu you need to use an anchovy soup base. So, they are not authentic there. BCD and Kaya use the authentic anchovy soup base but these folks do not. However, they do give you generous portions and their pork bulgogi was very good. I got the soon tofu and park bulgogi combo and I am a full grown adult male and the leftovers fed me very well the next day too. They grill their pork bulgogi over an open flame and not everyone does that. Pork bulgogi can be tricky to make but theirs was very good, way better than BCD's or Kaya's. If they would switch to an anchovy soup base I'd give them the full five stars.

Delicious spicy tofu soup. Ambiance is clean and welcoming. Looking forward to trying out more of their menu their at their new location
Be the first to ReplyI drove to the old location and was surprised they moved.
Went to the new location on Sepulveda and was happy to see the business is still open. Ordered soon tofu x 3 and it was delicious. Wish there were more side dishes included, but main dish was awesome. Edit: I forgot to add the new place is called Jang Su Jang
Be the first to ReplyThey have moved to 2814 Sepulveda Blvd.
Unit A, Torrance CA 90505 (where the Tous Le jours bakery was) and the new name is Jang Su Jang. 310-534-5533. They have everything that was on the Cho Dang menu and much more!
Be the first to ReplyFive stars for the now closed Cho Dang.
Yes, unfortunately, Cho Dang in Torrance has closed. They've merged with Da Maat, and the combined restaurant is called Jang su Jang, located at 2814 Sepulveda Blvd, Unit A, Torrance. This is the spot Tous Le Jour Bakery used to occupy. Between Cho Dang and Da Maat, we always strongly preferred the flavors of Cho Dang. Yesterday we picked up takeout from Jang su Jang, and their banchan was nowhere near as good as what Cho Dang used to have. Of the main dishes in the merge, I think Da Maat won out most of the rececipes over Cho Dang, and that's too bad. So in my opinion, Jang su Jang is mostly Da Maat in a nice modern setting. I miss Cho Dang already. But like so many other restaurants that close and/or are taken over by new owners, once they're gone, they're really gone.

Love this place! Went to go there today and they are closed permanently! Does anyone know if they are opening/relocating to a new spot?

Been here more than a few times when I was a kid (like 20+ years ago). Now that I've moved back to SoCal, it's still there! And it's still one of the best soon tofu around! The plaza looked ghetto but don't let it stop you from coming here. Definitely worth it! 10 times better than BCD

Be the first to ReplyI love soon doobu and this place is delicious.
They have wonderful banchan (side dishes) also that keep coming when you are out. They are efficient and quick when you dine in. Perfect on a chilly day.

We order take out from Cho Dang Tofu on a fairly regular basis. My kids love it. The food is consistent and it is always ready for pick up pretty quickly. The only thing that has change is the giving out of seaweed. It used to be included (generous amount) and now we have to request it (one small pack is given) - minor thing but a must for the kiddos :) It would also be great if they would expand the menu. Overall, we are pleased with the quality and service of this place.

Cho Dang Tofu is legit! The hubs and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch over the weekend with the kiddos. We shared the Vegetable Dumpling Soon Tofu and the Dolsot Bibimbap. The whole family devoured everything and including the banchan like we were not never going to eat again. It makes me so happy when the littles enjoy a good meal. Our dishes were delicious and we were so surprised how good the dumplings were! The parking lot is a little bit crazy but we found parking right in front. The service was friendly and our food came out soon after ordering.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my best go to Soon tofu restaurant for years.

Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite place in all of the land of tofu.
I talk about trying other spots but why? This place is good ol' faithful for me. It's a little drive for me but I can't get enough of their simple menu. The little appetizers with kim chi, cucumber, and seaweed is all delicccccious. I actually salivate thinking of his place. There is no way this place disappoints me. Service is consistent. They don't change very much and they shouldn't! It's all yummy, yummy times. :) My husband didn't like tofu either but hey, he's a new man because we've dined here several times and he loves their kim chi tofu stew. It is a win!
Be the first to ReplyAnother solid Korean tofu soup place here in Torrance.
They don't have a big menu, it's mostly the staples. They have soft tofu soup and meats. They also have bibimbop and a hot stone bibimbop but that's all. Taste wise it's really good, service was good and my party of two was able to be seated pretty immediately when we got there for lunch on a Friday. The only drawback here is the parking situation is not great and there aren't a ton of spaces if the bowling alley is busy so I docked a star for that.
Be the first to ReplyReally good spot.
We came here on a Friday for dinner at 5:30pm and was seated immediately, but the place got packed afterwards. What I loved about this place is that it's more cozy and intimate and some of the other Korean restaurants in the Torrance area. They have very special unique dishes like old-school bolgogi. The food and service were both really good.

Hot pot is very tasty. Always packed. A bit pricey though. Will definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyCho Dang soon tofu brings back memories.
I enjoy eating soon tofu at this restaurant because the service is wonderful and the food is homestyle Korean and delicious! I will be coming back for my usual to go orders, bulgogi, tofu soup the spicy level you like, and the bokum bap (rice)! See you soon!
Be the first to ReplyVery good soup especially during the cold winter.
Order taker on the phone are polite and kind
Be the first to ReplyFood was subpar.
Service was subpar. Only thing good here is the soon dubu. I would much rather make the drive out to Koreatown in LA. My children got the old style bulgogi soup but it was a bit too sweet for my liking.
