IF YOU LOVE INDIAN FOOD, THIS IS THE PLACE TO EAT
This had to be one of the best Indian restaurant I have eaten at any where in the world. I called in advance, since they stop serving at 2:45pm. We arrived only a few min before that time, but they served us. We had the best Onion Pokara (perfectly cripy), Saag Gosht (lamb spinach), Alu Gobi (veg cauliflower and potato), Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Nan (best nan I have ever had, soft and doughy) and Basmati rice. Being there late, did not give any instructions for spicyness or nan not to be overcooked. THEY JUST DID IT RIGHT!!! I just love this place and they were so very nice.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Coastal Indian Cuisine ! Probably the best I’ve had in USA so far
One word to describe this restaurant is Exceptional! I can keep adding adjectives to fill the reviews but they don’t do justice to the food we ate here ! If you are in search of authentic Indian Food that does real justice to Indian cuisine then this has to be high on your list in NYC . We started with the Rupee Lager which goes well with Indian food . For appetizers we ordered Royyala Vepudu (Shrimp tossed with Onions and spices ) served with a side of Malabar Paratha. One bite of it and we knew we are in for a treat here . Perfectly balanced spices transport you to a nice coastal town in India. For entree, we went for the Lobster Ghee Roast and the Kozhi Chettinad ! Lobster Ghee Roast - If you want to feel what culinary heaven looks like, order this gem of a dish here and thank me later . The subtleties of the dish is beyond words. I’ve never had a better balanced ghee roast and that too with lobster which was cooked on point ! Kozhi Chettinad - True to the way they cook in the restaurants of Chennai this one was the perfect rendition of the Chettinad Curry I’ve had in USA but even that was overshadowed by the Ghee Roast ! Can’t remember the last time I felt so happy coming out of a restaurant! Thanks team Chola for the wonderful food ! God bless and keep up the great job! Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyGREAT ! It's the best Indian restaurant in New York.
Chola Restaurant | January 2024 After reading some reliable comments and reviews here we decided to have our dinner at Chola. It was wonderful and this has become our favorite Indian restaurant in New York. We travel a lot, we like good food and we like Indian food. We've been to India and always go to Indian restaurants in London and New York. We can say that this is the best and most authentic Indian restaurant in New York. Authentic Indian cuisine, made with care, with real spices, with the taste of homemade food and made for you. Excelent reception. Careful and welcoming environment. Our perfect choice: ● Gosht Pasanda - Creamy cashew lamb curry, raisins ● Can Shetty's Kori Gassi - Manglorean coconut chicken curry, red masala ● Coconut Rice - Fried lentil wafers ● Mango Lassi ● We don't like the Naan/bread and dessert TIP: if you have a car and need to park, there is a parking lot right next to the restaurant that costs around US$20
Be the first to ReplyStill splendid after five years
It's been five years since I gave Chola five stars. We ate there on Sunday evening, and I'm happy to report that the restaurant is every bit as good as we remember it. The service is excellent - we turned up on a Sunday evening with no reservations, but they were able to find us a table which was open at the moment, but would be required in two and a half hours. That was fine by us. The restaurant filled up as we ate - I'd say that reservations are a good idea. The selection of wines by the glass was perfectly acceptable - I had a Cote du Rhone (or two), and my wife had a a Californian Chardonay, which didn't have the usual assertiveness. Good choice. As for the food... Splendid. We started by sharing Jhinga Koliwada. Enough for two, and delicious. I had Sheekh Kebab, and my wife had Gosht Pasanda. Both excellent, and enough to give us lunch the following day. We chose a Garlic Nan to accompany the meal. It was fresh and tasty. We didn't have room for desert. Maybe next time. Strongly recommended.

Very good address in New York. Discovered by chance during a walk on the way back to the hotel. The exterior is simple like the room but the dishes are plentiful and delicious. Definitely worth a visit and it's a change from burgers and other street food.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Experience
We selected Chola for my mom's 80th birthday dinner - 13 of us! It was snug, but they made it work. The staff was wonderful - extremely attentive and friendly. And the food...amazing. So many dishes we'd never heard of, and were excited to try. The seafood dishes were especially good. They put a little thumbs up denotation on "must-try" dishes on the menu. All of them were fantastic. Can't wait to return!!

We did find it by default - and we were happy and full when we left with the doggy bags, the food was too good to leave without one. The service was great... Highly recommend it to anyone with a taste for Indian food
Be the first to ReplyMOST AUTHENTIC INDIAN FOOD OUTSIDE OF INDIA
If you like Indian food, you will LOVE Chola. A local NYC chef recommended Chola to us as his favorite place to eat and now we know why. Min, the host and owner I believe, guided us through the menu and all his recommendations were excellent. Do to leave without trying the goat curry and dal. Also, the chicken tandoori, unlike others we've had, arrived at the table sizzling on a platter, and more tender and juicy and favorable than we ever experienced in the past. A new must go to restaurant on our list!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat indian, nice spot
Came to have lunch at Chola on a whim when we were touristing around the area checked our Michelin guide app for a restaurant close by. Great new looking interior dining room and small bar area friendly service, easy menu to navigate and all the food was delicious. Even wrote a about it on my blog. I would definitely recommend it and it was budget friendly.

Nicely located in midtown new york. The food choices were plenty with variety.
The quantity is very good and the food is delicious. Naan size is pretty large. Overall good experience
Coastal Indian cuisine—spicy if you like!
So many good dishes on this menu that we over ordered and had some extra to take home! Shrimp in red sauce very hot to my spouse’s delight while the pickled tandoor chicken was piquant and the lamb rogan josh very satisfying. The samosas were a bit too doughy for my liking. Definitely a place to re-visit!
Be the first to ReplyChola is fabulous. We’ve only
Chola is fabulous. We’ve only had the take away due to Covid but we will be in as soon as this nightmare is over. The curry is absolutely delicious, especially the lobster curry. They are able to cater for gluten free and dairy allergies. The delivery service is great. Can’t think of anything negative.
Be the first to Replyduring the virus delivery
DELIVERY during virus period is spectacular. We ordered on Caviar and had our order here in less than 30 minutes. Everything was terrific, well packaged, piping hot. Portions are generous so we found that we only ate half of what we ordered and had more than enough for a second night's dinner. What a find.
Be the first to ReplyNice buffet lunch
Had the lunch buffet here with a friend on a Saturday at 1 pm. Not too crowded. Small but nice buffet with several entrees including vegetarian options and rice plus dessert. Garlic naan was good, and they brought around tandoori chicken to each table. Food was flavorful, service was good with nice ambiance. Average prices for NYC.
Be the first to ReplySolid classic Indian in midtown
Any chance I get I walk the excessive extra blocks from my work to make a plate for lunch, with some fresh baked roti.
The flavors here shine big and bright, they have a constantly rotating mix of offerings every day for their lunch buffet, the breads are fresh and perfectly baked... and the food is NOT TOO heavy.
Service is very friendly and prompt - a true joy to have in the Mid East 50s.
Dinner is just as fantastic...
My favorite Indian Lunch Buffet in nyc
I have been to several Indian restaurants for meals. Chola has to be my top favorite place for lunch buffet! The price is good ($20 including tops). The food was fresh and delicious! I particularly like the piping hot garlic naan bread, the chicken tikka and the lamb curry! The seating was comfortable. It was a bit noisy because of a big party nearby! There were also quite a few vegetarian dishes available.
It was a hearty meal and I highly recommend Chola to anyone!
