A bit too trendy for my group, but the food was good for some of the more adventurous people in the party. A bit overpriced. The restaurant was one part foodie, one part entertainment.
Be the first to ReplyAt our table for four we went a bit overboard ordering.
Likely we should have gone for one of Chotto Matte's tasting menus. Beware that while the individual prices for the tapas style dishes seem reasonable in total it can add up quickly. Very well prepared cocktails, especially their pisco sour. Nice wine list but few options sub $100. Setting cost aside, what you get is a culinary adventure. Rarely can you order 10+ dishes anywhere and have everyone at the table agree that they are all exceptional. I've never really longed to be a vegetation but I could very much consider it after tasting their lychee ceviche, which was as much fun to eat as it was to say. The standard ceviche is excellent as well. Both are essentially identical substituting lychee. You'll find a pic of the Robata duck breast, thinly sliced and succulant. Black cod Aji Miso is a must. Shout out to the yuca fries. Our server was delightful, friendly and informative. As a side note, whether you need to go or not, take a walk upstairs to the washrooms. It's an experience. If possible leave room for dessert. We failed and shared just one passion fruit crรจme brรปlรฉe which as my wife would say, "was to die for".
Be the first to ReplyI've been to Chotto many, many times.
Every time I feel like it's been good. Cocktails are so nice and there's ample room especially on weekends for us- as we are downtowners. However, recently when we went, I was so very shocked at the lack of quality- the standard tostadas we ordered were stale, and the fish was fishy and old tasting ... I'm going to have to rethink coming here on a whim. Please up your standards even on a slow, weekend night! Very sad to see the quality go down.
Be the first to ReplyIt was an exceptional experience from start to finish.
The ambiance was delightful, the food exquisite. Tarryn's professionalism stood out; she was attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was perfect. I highly recommend Chotto matte, especially for those seeking not only delicious food but also exceptional service provided by this team. - Toni

Maybe a special occasion restaurant based on prices but fun and different option."
Be the first to Replygreat ambiance.
service is very good. as an Asian who is fond of Japanese cuisine, the fusion dishes by Chotto Matte is an alternative to explore Canadian Japanese dishes.

Went after a theatre show during the Christmas week (thur night). Arrived at resturant and was told bar closes in an hour (11pm). The bartender had one person at the bar that's it, she talked to them for 15 mins and didn't look over to our table once. Finally comes over and takes the drink and food order. Food comes no drinks. The only time she smiled was when I flagged her down for the bill. The place was dead she was unfriendly, we dropped $200!! Money doesnt grow on trees. Forget eating out! Resturants will suffer because of people like her. $200!!! This place is way too expensive. Im changing how I tip.

I heard mixed opinions about Chotto Matte, primarily driven by the price of the food, however I had an incredible meal that was definitely worth every penny! Definitely go the tasting menu route. For $95 I had 8 courses, while my friends ordered a la carte and had a fraction of the food for 75% of the price. And yes, they do let some get the tasting menu even if the whole table doesn't participate. Virtually every dish was a hit, minus the salmon which had a sauce with a weird taste. The chicken dish in particular was one of the best I've ever had! And the churro at the end was to die for as well. Can't wait to come back!

Food - 3/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 4/5 There was a misunderstanding about our dinner arrangement for 4 people that resulted in us getting food portions for 2 people. They eventually noticed when we got the bill and the manager resolved it and made up for it in an acceptable way. The food is fine. Nothing exceptional and nothing bad. It's supposed to be Japanese/Peruvian but most of the time it leans one way more than the other instead of finding a novel way to combine the two. The inside is nice. It has a semi open kitchen so you can see the cooks working. It's a nice place for a special occasion.

We live so close by and this place has been on our list forever.. The chotto hour, which is their happy hour, is very good. 2 for 1 drinks is amazing but they don't let you mix and match. You need to get two of this same drinks. Their cocktails are amazing and very pretty. I really liked the fairly priced app menu for the happy hour as well. Pollo picante and shishito peppers were very flavorful. Our waiter, George, is very good. Friendly, personable and gave great recommendations. Overall, such a great place for a happy hour!

From the front desk and most especially the server, thank you very much! We also appreciate the Chef's complimentary mochi ice cream to capped-off our celebration for my Daughter's graduation. It was a very good first time experience to Chotto Matte. Can't wait to be back and bring our friends to experience your tasty cuisine -- and most, the awesome service. Keep it up!

Had the chef's special and it was a culinary experience that I can't get off my mind. The flavours were amazing and original. Service was impeccable
Be the first to ReplyThe food is to die for.
When you come in you think the music may be too loud but the acoustics make it great to chat or simply enjoy the tunes. Service was extraordinary. We will go again and again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat mix between Peruvian and Japanese cuisine.
The ambiance is great with a very modern decor. The service was sometimes a bit slow but overall good.
Be the first to ReplyI didn't realize that I needed Nikkei cuisine in my life
I didn't realize that I needed Nikkei cuisine in my life until I was treated to an amazing experience recently at Chotto Matte! The food is incredibly flavourful with a variety of different options to choose from-- ranging from fresh sashimi and sushi to addictive barbecued dishes. Even my vegan sister had lots of options to choose from! We were very impressed and were given top notch service. A great spot and ambiance for a date night or even just a fun outing. The tapas/sharing style lends itself to many occasions. I can't wait to return and introduce this quality restaurant to others.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a glorious meal we had @chottomattetor today! Chotto
What a glorious meal we had @chottomattetor today! Chotto Matte is a Nikkei-inspired Peruvian restaurant with an extensive menu. They offer a la carte, lunch bento boxes, and a tasting menu. We went with their 5 course tasting menu only for $65pp since we had a hard time deciding and we were not disappointed- our favorites were their ceviche, and Asado beef (it was so tender it melted in your mouth)! The least favorite item was the tuna with crispy rice, which I thought was a bit dry. The cocktail was also quite unique; it was not sweet at all which I loved, but I suppose the celery bitters made it taste like Chinese medicine at my first sip...then it started to grow on me. Service was also impeccable, we will definitey return for their brunch! Pictured: Edamame, Asado Beef, Chaufa, Tuna crispy rice, Chicken karage, Ceviche,BBQ Salmon with gogi berries, and yuca fries.

Well thought out avant-garde concept and well executed, just wasn't for me. Chotto Matte is a unique upscale Japanese Peruvian fusion restaurant that offers small sharing plates to guests. In this tapas style of dining, we had an intimate experience at a small round table that was packed closely to the other guests. The music, dim lighting, and funky coloured accents made it feel like an exclusive night club. Our server started off asking if we wanted still or sparkling water, a standard question among most restaurants. If you would not like to pay $10 for still water, provide another option of asking for tap water. He recommended we order 3-5 dishes each as we'd be sharing among us. The menu taught us about the process, where colder dishes would be served first and the fuller bodied dishes would be served following. I'm a fan of big portions and full flavours, these dishes only provided the latter. Totally understandable given the concept of the restaurant. One of those "let's go to McDonald's after" experiences that people joke about. If it were not for our fried rice dish, I would have still been hungry no matter how many fish dishes I ate (I'm a growing girl!). Jokes aside, the food itself was delicious. There was not one dish that we didn't like. The Amazonian BBQ salmon was rich and buttery, the salmon tartare had great textural elements, and the live torching of our sushi roll was very entertaining. It was also our friend's birthday so they provided us a free mochi ice cream dessert with a sparkler. They take jackets at the beginning too as the space is already tight with just our bodies. Would not return here to satisfy my hunger but rather to satisfy a craving for the salmon!
Be the first to ReplyFor NYE Dinner we decided to try Chotto Matte.
They had a set menu for the night and depending on which seating you had (early or late), the menu items and price varies. ..Spicy Edamame 4/5Yellowtail "Nikkei Sashimi" 3.75/5Patto A La Parrilla 4/5Dressed Sushi Selection 4.7/5Black Cod Aji Miso 5/5Chuleta De Cordero Ahumada 4/5Arroz Chaufa 0.5/5Dessert (passionfruit crรจme brรปlรฉe, lychee and matcha mochi, chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream) 4.5/5..Overall we really enjoyed the flavours of all the dishes. My top favourites were the cod and sushi selection and my bf's was the lamb chop and sushi selection. The only complaints we have are that the fried rice tasted really weird... flavours didn't go well together. The portions of all the dishes are also really small.... price to portion ratio is way off. Every photo here is two people portion, except the cod and sushi selection.

My friends and I visited chotto matte yesterday after having talked about wanting to go for a long time. When we arrived they took our coats at the front and sat us right away. The ambiance was nice the music was great. As soon as we were seated our server asked us if we wanted "still water, sparkling water, or tequila shots" to start off. We said still which we didn't realize was a mistake until later. Our server cracked open a water bottle for us and we didn't think anything of it. It was when he cracked open a second one we realized we were going to be charged, which was ridiculous considering he never once thought to imply that still water wasn't tap water. It was sly of our waiter to keep bringing us bottled water. In terms of food everything tasted amazing, although the portions were very small. We ordered the shishito peppers, yuca frita, salmon tartare, Arroz Chaufa, dragon roll, sato maki, and the Amazonian bbq salmon. We were also celebrating a birthday so they brought us a mini mochi ice cream dessert.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, drinks, ambience and service.
Both the host and waitress were attentive to our requests and made for a very enjoyable evening. The fixed price menu offerings are more than enough for one person but we also ordered a few a la carte items which left us feeling just right.

I had an extraordinary experience at Chotto Matte last weekend. The food was absolutely fantastic- and how did you get the beer so cold? Matt the floor manager was more than happy to point my friend and I towards some of the best menu choices... Pork belly, fried chicken, edamame... and much more. Unbelievable. 10/10 experience!
Be the first to ReplyWent for brunch with a group of 15+.
Service was slow and at times outright rude. Food was even worse. Plenty of the dishes were inedible. Out of 10 dishes, only 2 were considered decent. Edemame never even came nor were we offered any compensation over this Overall a very disappointing experience considering the price and reputation of the place.Would not return nor recommend.

Made a reservation for 8:45 Nov 26th and didn't get seated until 9:20, while people who walked in got seated right away. Hostess was incredibly rude and they did nothing to compensate our 40 minute wait with reservation.

This is definitely one of my favourite fusion places in the city and such a unique combination of Japanese and Peruvian called Nikkei. Some of my favourite dishes here would be the Chotto ceviche, the eggplant Nash miso which is hands-down the best eggplant dish I have ever had (no joke), the chicken on the Robata, the lamb chops which are so succulent and delicious, and the must try is definitely the octopus! Everything is so gorgeously plated and wonderfully flavored. The drinks here are strong and I really love the 'he's so Smokin' and 'She's so smokin!' This is a great place to come for larger parties where you can share a lot of plates. They also have an incredible brunch on the weekends with live entertainment which is quite an experience in and of itself. I would highly recommend a visit here! I'm only sad that patio season is now over!

Vibes are really good but seating space is pretty tight, and we had to get cozy. Food is pretty good but a bit over priced.
