Circolo Popolare London Reviews
Must see and try!
This is one of the very best Italian restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at. Wonderful atmosphere, amazingly authentic decor, very helpful and pleasant waiter and servers, and absolutely delectable food!
the burrata with pesto was sooo fresh and we started off
the burrata with pesto was sooo fresh and we started off strong. the ambiance is beautiful (but quite busy/ packed -- which makes sense for a viral establishment). the truffle pasta was yummy (wish it was cheesier lol) and the carbonara pasta had a great presentation in terms of they come with the cheese wheel but underwhelming, not very flavorful for the noodles itself but the pancetta was wayyyy too salty
Hidden gem with good food!
Good food, friendly service and a really cool vibe. Don’t miss their famous carbonara dish. From the outside, it looks unsuspecting, inside it’s a treasure.
At first glance you'll be impressed by the very cool decor
At first glance you'll be impressed by the very cool decor with vaulted ceilings, tall rows of shelving bursting with spirit bottles and the intricately woven vines. There is a very homey ambiance here, strong Mediterranean influence in the booths, tables and table setting. There is a good selection of pizzas, pasta and mains. The place is busy but you don't feel lost in the crowd. Our group of 4 had a reservation for 7:30 and there was a line up, but our table was waiting for us. The server was friendly and we noticed that the servers worked in teams to cover and make sure everyone was taken care of. I had the chicken and it was superb. We also had sea bass and pizza. Everyone was happy with the flavours and portions, all plentiful. We also received the birthday song and candle in our ordered lemon meringue pie, which was spectacular. Good value and service, we would dine here again. 4.5 rating but we are giving a 5.
WOW
Once you find it and we walked pasted twice you are transported to the Amalfi coast and the ambulance is just amazing. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend. Food was good with big portions, service and drink were the same. Plenty to look at and it’s deceptively bigger than you think. Will return again definitely.
Overhyped
Definitely a place overhyped by social media. Although the decor of the restaurant was beautiful and the focaccia starter was great, the pasta (the pappardelle al ragu, and the crab tagliarini) was served stuck together in one stodgy lump - it did not taste fresh or tasty at all. We ordered the aubergine milanese too, which tasted okay, but it was a measly portion for the price. The waiters also didn't seem to be able to decide who was serving us, as one would take our order and then a different one would come to take our order again.
Worst dinner experience in many many years so i DO NOT RECOMMEND this place
This was the worst restaurant experience in many many years. Cant actually think about where it was worst.. A super stressed waiter who complaint all the time, could not explain anything else then how terrible and stressful the work was in this restaurant and how much they had to do! We noticed that, absolutely, all workers must be there for one reason; get people in and out as fast as possible, because the goal is 1200 per night ( we were told by one waiter)! Nobody seem to be able to explain the menu, and it was just the feeling of “ decide now, hurry hurry hurry”! The guy who dealt with wine didn’t have a clue about wine in our opinion, but probably won the title because he was the fastest to open a wine bottle? We ordered one bottle but told him it was too hot ( probably 25 degrees C) and he laughed and said no one had done that before and no one cools down red wine! The food was absolutely tasteless and we gave up after main course and just wanted to leave! When we said we wanted the bill, a young guy was there in a second and removed all glasses, included those that had wine in them ! There is so much more to say... noisy so forget to have a normal conversation. For us, this was an absolute waste of money. The view is nice for sure, but that's it. we thought it looked so attractive on the web side, but we learned the total opposite So, thank you for destroying our evening!
Great Fun Restaurant
Came here to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday and had a fantastic time. The décor was amazing (very Instagrammable) matched with fantastic Italian food. Worth booking in advance. We visited on a Monday, the restaurant was packed. Highly recommend.
Group booking was so worth it
Such an incredible, warm vibe and the group set menu is just wow, wow. Delicious! All of the staff made the group feel so well looked after.
Fantastic decor and lively atmosphere
Circolo Popolare is a real feast for the eyes with its incredible bottle-lined walls and hanging greenery. The food is generous, indulgent and very Italian, and service holds up well even when it’s packed. Family-friendly enough, but really better suited to adults and older kids. A great spot for a night out – just make sure you book in advance.

Do yourself a favor and come to this location just north of
Do yourself a favor and come to this location just north of the fun Soho neighborhood of London. I read from another reviewer to request to sit in the front dining room and it was very beautiful. I will say however that I took a peek into the back dining room and although it was a different vibe, it was also beautiful. The food was authentically Italian so although we over ordered, the portions (like in Italy) weren't huge or expensive. The beef carpaccio was the best of my life. I can never order it anywhere else because it won't be as good. The sirloin steak was tender & we loved the spaghetti carbonara. The branzino was fried pieces on a skewer with a side of potatoes. Maybe their fun version of fish and chips. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It is one of our favorite memories!

This might be one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to. It feels tucked away and so intimidate and then you walk in and it's this massive space decorated PERFECTLY. And on top of that, the food was amazing and the service was great, as well!
We loved our dinner here.
Reservations made 3 weeks in advance. Gave the feel of Southern Italy. Fun cocktails. We enjoyed the truffle pasta, crab pasta, meatballs, and pizza margherita. Everyone was seated practically at once so it took awhile to get service but our server apologized. Then things went smoothly. We would return. It was pretty warm inside in June, so dress accordingly.
So I had earmarked this place last summer when were in
So I had earmarked this place last summer when were in London, and didn't get to it, so made sure to make it there this year. The only reason I'm giving it a four is just that my initial impression was a bit off. The rest of our party arrived before us and was seated, so we joined them, but it took a rather long time to get anyone to wait on us. And then when we did, we didn't end up getting everything we ordered. Not a huge deal, as we weren't charged for it, but just felt like a bit of a hassle to actually get our order placed. BUT, when we got the food we ordered, it was absolutely delicious! I had the spiedino di pollo al limone, and it was divine! The smashed potatoes were such a treat! The chicken itself was wonderful as well...just a bit smaller than I expected. Someone else in our group got the pappardelle and loved that. And another love their pizza. My husband happened to mention being in town for his birthday (not in an effort to get something at all...just a brief answer to a question), and the super kind waiter brought him out an ice cream and a candle. That was a lovely addition, and redeemed the beginning part of the meal where the service felt lacking. Beautiful inside, as has been stated multiple times - loved the decor!
Food was great, service was terrible.
. Tourist spot will always do well. Pizza not cut? didn't expect that, no small plates for sharing. Was expecting more

It's not fair for me to rate on food or service because the decor of the room was so dizzying, I got up and left. If you are sensitive to lights or glare, this is not the place for you. If I stayed, I might have had a seizure. Sorry to say.
Mario and Sheneika were absolutely amazing- helping us
Mario and Sheneika were absolutely amazing- helping us through the whole process of ordering :) Amazing food, beautiful setting and great vibes would 100% come again!!
A remarkable restaurant
Honestly this was one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had. From the lady at reception to the wait staff to the food, it was flawless. The food is phenomenal. Can not wait to go back
Mums 50th birthday was amazing
We went here for my mums 50th celebration and had the set menu. Our waiter Andre was amazing from start to finish. He changed some dishes due to dietary requirements and constantly checked back to ensure we were having a good time. I genuinely couldn’t fault the experience and can’t thank Andre and the rest of the team enough for their help. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere stunning. I will definitely be back ! My mum had the best birthday and the team made sure that she had the stress free and relaxed dinner that she deserves ♥️ Thanks again to the team at circolo popolare
Way over-hyped restaurant! We did not have reservations but
Way over-hyped restaurant! We did not have reservations but our party of 2 got in, seated in the patio on a Saturday evening. Took waiter more than 10 minutes to even acknowledge us. We ordered the Mafaldine A Ragu pasta and the Linguine w crabmeat & lemon butter. Delicious and rich but very little crabmeat. One of our drinks and bread never arrived, but was listed on our bill. We never saw the waiter again after he initially took our order. We had to wave down someone else. Automatic 13.5% Service Fee for No Service. Ambience was good but patio ambience was not as same as the indoor seating with all the greenery and lights. Can get way better service and food elsewhere.
Wonderful Dinner Experience!
We enjoyed a great pre-theater dinner at this restaurant. Our reservations were quite early, but the place was already busy so be sure to book in advance. We were seated in the back dining room but would recommend requesting the front dining space if it's an option because it is stunning. However, the back dining room did allow us to see a little bit into the kitchen, which helped us sneak peeks at many amazing dishes as they were being prepared. The food we had was really good. We started with the "Burrata Pappa al Pomodoro" and the "Prosciutto Credo e Malone". The prosciutto was fantastic and perfectly paired with the melon. We then had to order "La Gran Carbonara", the pasta dish they serve table side in a large cheese wheel. It was a good carbonara and was not as overwhelmingly large as it seemed when we ordered. The absolute best part of the meal was "Coppa Di Frutti Rossi" dessert (strawberries and raspberries with Chantilly cream) we ordered. It was possibly one of the best desserts we have ever had, and we are typically people who prefer chocolate over fruit when selecting desserts. It was outstanding. We also tried the "Profiterole al Cioccolato" (pastry with chocolate sauce, which was not bad but could not hold a candle to the other dessert. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would recommend people make a stop here when in London!
Low quality pasta .
Pasta plates are small. Place is nice, especially at the Terrace
Classic italian food and wine
The staff/manager are all amazing. Came in for my fiances birthday last night and they were so polite, attentive and went the extra mile every single time, this is a 10/10 and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in London." Don’t listen to the clowns who don’t rate it
Gorgeous Restaurant
A very busy lovely restaurant full of atmosphere. Love the setting - absolutely gorgeous. Food was mostly good although the Al dente pastas were a little too Al dente. I’d call it undercooked. Fun menu, quick service. Lively but not too loud.
Fantastic restaurant for a special occasion
Visited this beautiful restaurant in heart of London as recommended by a family friend. It did not disappoint. Great food, great service and with a great ambiance. Fantastic decor.
Great atmosphere. Food just ok
Great lively atmosphere when we arrived and the restaurant looks fantastic. Service was decent. Food wasn't wow. Starters just ok. My wife had a pasta dish. The bowl was cold so the pasta quickly went cold where it touched the bowl. Taste was OK. I just had a margarita pizza which had far too much doughy crust around the edges and not enough cheese in the centre. I won't criticise too much as we probably all our own idea of what a pizza should be like. Glad I went but don't feel the need to go again
Pretty restaurant, not great for gluten free.
This is a pretty restaurant. Staff were helpful. The menu choice for gluten free was pretty poor, I ended up with several starters instead , which were v nice. I appreciate it's an Italian restaurant but even the non pasta/ pizza options had breadcrumbs or added wheat based food on the plate. We eat out fairly often, even Italian, where we live and I was v struck by the poor choice for gluten free. The other food eaten was reportedly v nice though.
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious dishes.
We had truffled pasta, salad, pizza, burrata. Our service was exemplary.
Fabulous restaurant with great ambiance
This is truly one of the best places I’ve been to in years. You don’t have to spend a fortune either. Wine was reasonably priced too. It’s a beautiful room and the food is just fab. Our young Italian guest declared the mafaldine al tartufo to be amazing and among the best pasta dishes he’d ever tasted. Massive lemon meringue pie was a big hit too - for taste and drama!
Outstanding Restaurant.
This restaurant is fantastic. The ambiance. The food, the service is all outstanding. Highly recommend reservations as it is very busy.

Saw an IG post about this restaurant, so I made reservations (ressies open 1 month in advance). The ambiance was great and the food, even better! Highly recommend going with friends so you can order multiple dishes to try. We were also celebrating a friend's birthday and the restaurant had a signed card when we checked in, and complimentary cheesecake + limoncello to celebrate.

The space is truly stunning, evoking the essence of the Sicilian coast with its high wall arches adorned with hundreds of bottles and a ceiling draped with flowers and twinkling lights. Tables are tightly packed, each adorned with unique tableware and mismatched pillows, adding to the eclectic charm. While they offer a variety of fun cocktails, I opted for a virgin option, the Basil Instinct, to balance out the effects of the previous night's heavy drinking. Despite its vibrant green color and basil leaf garnish, I found it to be overly sweet. For starters, we sampled the Burrata Pappa Al Pomodoro and Focaccia Della Casa Alle Olive. The burrata made for a great shareable plate, and I found the pomodoro sauce to be uniquely flavorful. However, I was disappointed to find that the portion of focaccia consisted of only three pieces, and the lack of complimentary bread is essentially a crime to humanity. Moving on to the mains, we ordered the popular favorites: La Gran Carbonara, Mammargherita Di Bufala, and the Mafaldine Al Tartufo. The presentation of the carbonara, intended for two people, was theatrical, but I found the pancetta to be overly salty and the carbonara lacking in sauce. The truffle pasta, while rich and flavorful, became a bit heavy after a few bites. We did enjoy the pizza, particularly the light and airy crust. Overall, while the ambiance is undoubtedly the highlight of the experience, I found the food to be on the pricier side for what it was--a mid-range offering.
Great atmosphere for such a cute intimate Italian
Great atmosphere for such a cute intimate Italian restaurant. Everything we ordered was very fresh and delicious. My boyfriend being a picky eater really loved his dish. I ordered the ragu pasta to be safe and I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. I ordered their focaccia bread and another appetizer that was just like mozzarella sticks - very fresh & tasty. The UK isn't necessarily known for their customer service, but everyone met us with kindness. I would recommend to anyone traveling in looking fle an authentic Italian taste!

I so wanted to love this place because the ambiance was beautiful. It is a gorgeous place! Make a reservation! It's packed and the energy is great! Took 13 minutes for a server to greet our table. The jack stand was left behind me from serving 2 close by tables. It was left in the middle of the aisle. I finally pushed it away from me so no staff could walk by with out it being in the way. Someone finally removed it. This is a very cool touristy place so don't go in expecting 5 star food. Wont comment on food because I'm hoping it was an unlucky day to receive poor service and luke warm pasta. Place was hoping! Energy was incredibly fun! Go for the experience. Do not be upset if food or service is not what expected.
A truly disappointing experience
I invited 2 guests to say thank you for looking after me when I was ill. It was to be a special treat. The restaurant was their choice; I did not check the reviwes. I booked well in advance - some 2-3 weeks. The decor was encouraging, we were put in the back room but that didn't matter; the problem was the tables were very close to each other and the place too noisy to make a conversation. The food was less than mediocre, the waiters wanted to get on with serving and removed plates at random, actually to get attention from a waiter we had to rise and go and look for one. Far to much hurry to get in a second sitting. Prices were silly, including an extra charge for milk for a cup of tea. I was asked for feedback and gave it; I was offered appologies and a replacement meal. Having tried to book it twice I had no reply. The place is a gimmick, I eat out a lot, I havent had such a disappointing experience in years.
Dissapointing
Have tried several times to book and finally managed to get a table. The restaurant ambiance is nice and the service was good but that’s about it. We shared a couple of starters…calamari was cold, rubbery and small portion. We went for the carbonara for the main. This is cooked in the kitchen and served from a cheese at the table…it was cold, gloopy and stuck together. The staff were helpful to resolve things but took the shine off the experience. Food was very disappointing and an expensive lunch. A real shame. Wouldn’t go again.
Rip off
Very pushy service. It started when we were asked for water and the waitress had already the water bottle in her hand opening it while asking, so I felt it was pushed on me and didnt even have the choice to ask for tap water. We ordered two carbonara and two glasses of wine, the waitress didnt ask which size so I assumed small. When the bill came I was very surprised when she said I got medium glasses (large price difference). My carbonara was more like a soup and the sauce wasnt properly cooked. You can pay the bill via QR code but be aware they charge you extra £1.30 for this „service“, I asked to pay by card. Lastly, when I asked the waitress why the service charge is 13.25% when it‘s usually 12.5%, she replied that from Jan 2024 Westminster Council increased the rates and she only gets £2 of this……. (I‘m sure we all are aware that westminster council is not telling restaurants what they want to charge for their service.) All in all will not come back and not recommend this place.
Fun place, good vibe but mediocre food
Was excited to try this popular restaurant, it’s always booked up and looks great. The atmosphere inside has a nice buzz and the decorations are awesome. However the food was all pretty mediocre on taste, we ordered 3 different starters and 3 different mains, oh and a couple of desserts too. Only the truffle pasta stood out. Can’t give any more than three stars because ultimately the food has to be the star of the show.
last minute booking made a great lunch choice
Just visited today. Tried to book online but no slots for desired time. Thought I'd try and walk in and again no slots, however, the friendly hostess suggested coming back at 3pm again to ask. As it was over 2 hours away thought Id try somewhere else but nothing too my fancy. After some drinks at the Charlotte Street hotel (pricey) I tried my luck again and was kindly given a place for 2. Our lovely server Alessia was very efficient and knowledgable. We were served quickly and the food choices we had were delicious and filling (2 starters and 2 mains) Lovely atmosphere (great playlist) and warm and friendly staff. Really enjoyed talking to Lorenzo who again was so efficient and gave us advice on the new additions to the chain-Jacuzzi and Carlotta. An afternoon well spent, I can't wait to go back and try different menu options as well as checking our Lorenzos suggestions,
Good food, good decoration of the place. They add the tip without asking the customer.
Good food, better decoration of the place. We didn't like the detail they had of adding the tip without asking the customer. We asked that it be taken away from us, since we consider that 14% is abusive. The waiters only brought the food and drinks, the order and payment was made through the mobile application. They were not at all attentive and the service could be greatly improved. The employees are paid by the owners of the premises and not by the customers. It is worth going to this restaurant except for the detail of the tip that we do not see as fair and that is the reason why I lowered the score on TripAdvisor.
Great place
Great place that gets busy. We managed to turn up and get a table but if going again we would book ahead. Atmospheric place with an interesting menu and quality wines that are not over priced. Great service, friendly staff and not over priced for what we got.
Watch out for big service charge, + more charges for using the app, tap water and an additional tip...
6 of us went. The food was just OK. We shared a couple of starters of Focaccia which was fine, but choice of food was very limited. I didn't fancy pizza as you always get too much and the pasta dishes didn't sound very exciting so I had the cuttlefish as a main as there was no seafood risotto, which is usually my go-to meal at Italian restaurants. I had never eaten cuttlefish before and when I ordered it our waiter warned me that it was quite chewy! But I went with it anyway and it WAS a bit chewy, but it was very nice with just potatoes and rocket. Not a lot, but fine for me. The rest of our party had pasta and pizza dishes. I reckon I got the best meal, especially when I saw the sharing platter - for 2 - of carbonara. £36 for two - and not much of it... But there you go. I had the tiramisu for dessert and that was delicious. Service was good, and I appreciated the waiter's advice on my cuttlefish, so I would have given a 'very good' grade, but when we paid, we used the QR code - to save the staff doing it I guess - so I wasn't very happy when I noticed that the TAP WATER cost a pound (that's never happened before), together with a service charge of 13.5%. But continuing to payment, we then got a 'checkout fee' for £2.69 on top - for using the App. What's THAT for? We are saving the staff doing it!. By that time we were ready to go so didn't want to start again, so accepted that, but THEN i noticed the bill had gone up ANOTHER £6 - for another tip I think... There were little boxes and the £6 one was selected! With this one. you had the option to tab to zero, so I got out of that one at least. But having to pay 13.5% + £1 for tap water + £2.69 for using a QR Code + trying to take an additional tip is a cheek as far as I am concerned. So, average for me. It was a nice place with a great atmosphere but I certainly wouldn't go again if I had my choice. I don't mind paying a wodge for average food in London, but don't like to walk out of a restaurant feeling short-changed.
Dessert. Capital of London. Secret.
This is THE place for dessert in London. They LOVE having guests just coming for dessert. It’s a huge secret. Go tiramisu
A Sweet Haven: London's Premier Dessert Dining Experience
This is the best dessert-only restaurant I've ever visited. It's rare to find a place in London that welcomes you to enjoy just desserts. We decided to try our luck tonight and were not disappointed. The staff provided excellent service and made sure we were well taken care of. I highly recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth.
Amazing place to just enjoy life!!!
“4.5 circles” if that was available as I only had one “suggestion” (which may be irrelevant to some). Overall, what a gem of a place to dine, savor, laugh, live and just be. We ordered the beef carpaccio, drama pizza, Ragu pasta and the lemon cake (of course!). All items were tasty and not over or under salted (as some reviews had stated). Pasta was al dente, pizza dough fresh and all flavors juxtaposed perfectly (esp the Ragu!). Kyle (who was “just” our food runner) was the absolute best! Please, please, please allow him to flourish and be a server (or whatever he wants to be). No doubt he will bring 10000% to the establishment. Alexandra was also a delight. She went above and beyond in helping us choose our dishes. As a hospitality employer, cloning 100 of Kyle and Alexandras would make any restaurant a success. The only suggestion I have is to have a staff member available to assist with wine selections. With such a vast selection to choose from, a person is needed to answer more technical questions. I selected what I thought was an “upgraded” Valpolicella and didn’t enjoy the wine. Technically, it wasn’t corked/bad so I just consumed it. It would have been unfair to send it back. Had someone been on hand to suggest something more in my taste, perhaps the Tignanello would have won that evening. But again; minor detail in what was truly a delightful evening!!!!
Pizza from the Big Mamma Group continues to hold the record
Pizza from the Big Mamma Group continues to hold the record of the best I've ever had. The flavors are fresh and the dough is fantastic. The ambiance of Circolo Popolare creates a fun and unique experience. We tried the Carbonara for the first time, and revisited the popular Mafaldine al Tartufo. I would recommend either (or both)!
Awful restaurant.
Nobody offered to take our coats, the tables are so close together like a pig breeding factory farm. You can hear every word the people next to you are saying. It's a mission to get in the seat without bumping things or people. Table is also very small, boring menu, boring food. This place is marketed as something high end but is basically an over priced Bella italia with worse food. The bathrooms are dark and dingy, very small as well, can't even check your makeup in there. Will not return to this place.
Absolutely breathtaking ambiance.
I have been waiting to come here for what seems like forever. So happy we got to go! The food was divine. They ran out of a few things and I wanted carbonara, but the seafood pasta didn't disappoint. The drinks were great. The atmosphere really just takes the cake though.
