I don't usually write reviews so this will probably go completely unnoticed, but this is an honest account of our experience at Clover Hill. We looked forward to supporting a local business offering fine dining in Brooklyn Heights, a lovely neighborhood with notoriously few good restaurants - certainly none earning a Michelin star. We thought that this would be a special meal to celebrate a birthday, and they reached out in advance to try to accommodate a dietary restriction. Great start! The first surprising disappointment was that the only non-alcoholic beverage on offer was water with lemon or lime. What? The first two one-bite courses were exceptional and beautifully presented, but the rest of the meal was underwhelming at best. Perhaps it was an off night, but the menu was 100% proteins - crab, scallop, fish, fish, more fish with caviar, fatty pork belly, Squab, not one vegetable course or accompaniment. We ordered the rib eye as a supplement (a substitute, not addition to) the Squab, which was 1.5x1.5 inches, extremely salty, and as we discovered when the bill arrived, $95. A huge ribeye at the very best steakhouses in NYC does not cost $95. Absurd. 11 Madison Park (3-stars) and Saga (2-stars) were both far superior fine dining experiences in every way in comparison to our disappointing evening at 1-star and comparatively priced Clover Hill. Congratulations on your star, but after this experience it's hard to imagine that you will deserve one next year, and we won't be back for the next course.
