Comedor Austin Reviews from The Last Year
Great location - attended for a special event.
Amazing tequila drinks, esp. the margaritas. Also strong food - the fish tacos were among the best I've had in the city. I also want to give a big compliment to the vibe/decor/environment. There are plenty of places to sit and the location looks like an escape from the hustle and bustle of Austin downtown proper. Definitely recommend.
Starting with the service.
Top notch. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and pairs and explained things well. The food was just remarkable!
The food is great but do NOT get the beef tacos.
They taste like dog food / dog breath!! I had everyone (9 ppl) in my table try them and they all agreed. The rest of the food was amazing though. The dumplings were delicious.

A culinary voyage through Mexico's diverse flavors! The smoked brisket taco at Comedor is a revelation, marrying traditional techniques with innovative twists. The vibrant and stylish decor sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience, while the knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu with expertise. Comedor is a true gem in Austin's culinary landscape.
Amazing! The best meal we had in Austin.
You have to get the Comedor margarita - it's perfection! Service was great- we had a group of 11 and the server helped us pick the perfect mix of dishes. Group loved the bone marrow tacos
Great food, service, and ambiance.
Perfect for date night and/or for large groups as well. My party ordered an array of dishes and every thing was amazing!!!

Came back for a full dinner with visiting friends and so happy to have explored the menu further! TLDR; Avocado Tostado and Crudo to start, followed by the Bone Marrow Tacos and a meat of your choice, and a Churro de Chocolate. Seated for dinner, rather than the Happy Hours booths, we got to experience the transitioning of the evening with the unexpected change in design as the dividing walls were raised to allow open space between the dining room and patio. So fun and such a cool industrial design! We started off with the Avocado Tostada - only one, but enough to taste for 4. Textures and flavors paired very well. A great crunch with added Salpicón (similar to a salsa). The L&L Brasicas (broccolini) also tasty and properly seared, could pair well with one of the meat dishes, any of the three suggested at the bottom of the menu. There Heritage Crudo was a perfect palette cleanser, small, but again a great little bite that could be split by 4. We, once again, made sure to have our visiting guests try the bone marrow tacos. I'll admit, just as tasty, but definitely a great value if you make it to happy hour. The Papas Fritas were underwhelming. Too charred, in fact couldn't help but only taste the oil. I recommend saving choices for something else. Potatoes are fillers any way! Out of the blue, right before closing out our tab, our guest asks if there are Churros -- and guess what? YES. They do have Churros. But not the traditional type, which surprisingly was okay in our books. Try: a Churro de Chocolate on top of a large mug of Cafecito (hot coffee made with dulce de leche and café de olla). I don't even drink coffee, and it was a must to dip the Churros in the café!!
This should be a 4.
5 star review. 5 is a bit high, but 4 is too low. Comedor is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin and has delivered consistently great food since it first opened. It's an absolutely beautiful space, the service is always excellent, and the cocktails are delicious. One thing I have never cared for is bone marrow. Comedor frequently pushes their bone marrow tacos on customers as the "house speciality". I fell into this trap on my first visit, and, unsurprisingly, didn't like them. My wife ordered different dishes that were all excellent, so we went back again, and again trying out other dishes. I haven't been disappointed since. In particular Comedor makes amazing mole. The Colorado mole, is my favorite, but they are all good. They make several, and I never pass up an opportunity have at least one, usually two. They also do vegetable dishes and raw fish extremely well. The menu has several options, usually between 15 to 18. The last three to four are large plates meant to be an entree. Typically there is a steak option, chicken option, fish option and vegetarian option. I have tried several and all were good, but I think the best way to eat at this restaurant is by exploring mutiple small plates. The dishes are creative, often using uncommon ingredients by American standards. I think this is where their kitchen truly shines. I have had two friends who told me they didn't like the restaurant, after their first visit. Both friends also ordered the bone marrow tacos, because they were told it was the house specialty. I encouraged them to go back and try the crudo/aguachile, some vegetarian dishes, and at least one mole. Both did and both texted me while at the restaurant to express how much they loved the meal. They now go back frequently. My last meal was outstanding: Avocado and beet tostada with salsa macha, hamachi crudo/aquchile, carrot tamale, and enfriojoladas with huitalcoche. For dessert we had a lemon and coconut pavlova which might have been the best dish of the evening. For dessert they frequently push the chocolate tamale. Again, not my favorite. I often find chocolate desserts too heavy to end a meal. If. you love chocolate go for it. If you like a refreshing and light dessert get that pavlova or whatever similar dessert they are offering and you won't be disappointed. They stopped doing brunch, but one of the best dishes I have ever had at any brunch anywhere in world, was their pan dulce plate. Chef Speer knows desserts and baking so no surprise, but he still deserves a big fucking high five for that plate. Pro tips: Unless you really like bone marrow, don't get those tacos. I'm sure a lot fo people like them, but I'm 3 for 3 on people skipping the bone marrow and going for mole. Check with your server about the spice level on the aguachile. It can be extremely hot, and if you don't like spicy it can be too much. If the carrot tamale is on the menu, order that fucker. I don't know if carrot allergies exist, but if they do, and you have a mild one, it's probably worth the bendryll after dinner to have ordered tried it.

This was my first time dining at Comedor and it was a very pleasurable experience. Loved the ambience, as it gave off a NY Warehouse style interior which appealed to me. Tried the Bone Marrow tacos and must say very delicious. The Tamal de Chocolate was different however tasty. Have to give kudos to our server Tina. She was fantastic. She made some suggestions and they were spot on. Very personable too and cannot say enough about her customer service skills. Will definitely come back.
Creative!
This was an all around great experience. Beautiful restaurant and delicious food. Fantastic service and (yes) expensive. This isn't some taco truck. We found the meal to be creative and well prepared and appreciated the vibe. We spent $300 for 2 people... Good living costs money these days.
First of all - such a cool hidden spot.
Walking downtown you'd walk right past it without knows it's there giving it a speakeasy vibe. The interior is very sleek and modern featuring dark browns and blacks. They have a bar, indoor seating. And a little patio with fans and heaters because of the unpredictable Texas weather! Service was outstanding, always checking up on you, filling waters, grabbing dirty plates. Was very impressed! In terms of the food itself, we enjoyed all of the mocktails which were all delicious, the coconut horchata was my favorite. Their menu is family style so we ordered the fish tacos, bone marrow tacos, and the crudo. I was underwhelmed by the bone marrow which was supposedly the most popular dish, however the crudo and fish tacos were really yummy. My favorite part was the dessert. We got the dark chocolate tamale and ice cream and it was to die for, I had never experienced such flavors and they were balanced so beautifully. Overall a good experience but I thought it was a little pricey and smaller portion sizes. Parking was also a bit tricky but that's the nature of being downtown.
Really delicious but a bit too expensive for the food you’re getting
We had a delicious dinner and excellent service. The atmosphere is also fun and not too loud as so many restaurants are. However, the downside is it is definitely overpriced, and there is a hidden healthcare charge they don’t tell you about. We were pretty miffed at this as I’ve never seen this in a bill before - shouldn’t the overpriced food cover the restaurant’s costs to provide their employees healthcare instead of asking for that extra charity from its customers …? Also it sounds minor but when you’re spending so much on a meal the bathrooms should be quite fancy ones which they weren’t. But the decor otherwise was very nice
Not impressed with the 8$ surcharge
The food is not bad and the service was very good. However I think it is outrageous that an $8 health surcharge was added to our bill without clear warning. Particularly when the restaurant was already very expensive and frankly overpriced. Not impressed
Wowxacan excellence!
Visited July 2023 with my fiancé and friend. First time for both myself and my friend from out of town. Service is excellent and knowledgeable about the menu and extensive beverage list. There are numerous winners on this menu and we ordered many of them including the Aguachile, the grilled octopus, fish taquitos, fish tacos, and the half chicken. Desserts are also exquisite and dangerously delicious including the chocolate tamal which is a piece of art. The prices are reasonable for the level of cuisine and expertise on offer. The design of the restaurant is also a work of modern art with an unassuming entryway leading into a building full of light in the modern but vibrant interior. One word - Wowxaca!
The food was was not good...
I will start with the good. Our server was great. The design and the atmosphere was wonderful. However, when you go out to eat its the food that counts for us. I don't know if they were just having a bad night but the food was not good. Out of 6 dishes 2 were good the others though had too much spice/heat in them so you could not taste the layers of flavor that it looked like it had. it all tasted the same of spice/heat. The Tamal De Chocolate with Caramelized Milk ice cream (which is supposed to be the chef's signature desert) was the worse desert i have ever eaten. It only tasted of salt. No taste of chocolate or caramelized ice cream just salt. For the price of this place the food should be much better. We would not return again.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
