We went to celebrate a joyous lifetime achievement of on of my sons. We searched for a venue. My wife, who is from NOLA, suggested this would be the place. To give a bit of background, last time we dined at Commanders, the service was so poor, they insisted on comping the meal at my next reservation. While I appreciate the gesture, that is not what I do. I never feel good about it. It is far more important to have a good experience and hopefully the dining establishment will use that voiced experience to rectify the issue. Unfortunately, I did not leave a review for that experience. During the previous experience, the service was beyond poor. While I appreciate changing flatware between courses, if insufficient staff is available for the execution, they should not attempt the gesture (which I would expect an establishment desiring a solid reputation). Short version, no flatware came out prior to the meal. The food was then cold. And then, I still had to remove myself from the table, find a waiter, and kindly ask them to bring it out for the cold food. It was then brought out with a stare and a bad attitude. It was not even worth requesting warm food as a huge damper was put on the meal. Additionally, the cocktails were brought out after the appetizers arrived. Not a lot of time to socialize with my family (except when the food was cooling down). For this next go around I was going to have positive energy and a good attitude. However, it was even worse (can you believe). Initially I thought it was just me but that was not the case when by the end of the meal, all 7 of us were brought down and feeling a bit glum. When the waiter came to me first for my drink order, I directed him to the 3 ladies at the table as that is how I have been brought up. I got rolling eyes and a sarcastic look. He then proceeded to tell me that he was here to take care of us all and still expected I ordered first. Commanders, please educate your staff on etiquette. My first drink order was not correct. More eye rolling. As our waiter was not to be seen for a while, we did order a drink from another waiter (which never came) and were not so nicely explained for the martini lunch special, we can only order from our waiter. More eye rolling. While not all bartenders are created equally, a martini is an elegant drink with a special presentation. Each martini that came out was the spirit, ingredients, and ice cubes in a martini glass. Kind of like what we had at my fraternity parties in college. If the staff is not available to create a proper martini lunch, then it should not be offered. More bread requested and another eye roll. One of the most ridiculous moments came when we requested a picture of our table to celebrate this life achievement. It seemed like a massive request. A single shot with an iPhone...and another eye roll. Please explain the concept of affability to your staff. The poor affability was contagious and unfortunately by mid meal we were all brought down while trying to celebrate. It was so significant, we chose not to make any further requests and end the meal as soon as reasonably possible. Later that evening we went to Desi Vegas for a late dinner. Our waiter was Kevin. Apparently he has been there for 10 years. His service was impeccable and he relayed a very positive vibe. There was never any eye rolling. It seemed he was there to assure we had a great experience every step of the way. Brennens, you may want to see if you can hire him to educate your staff on etiquette, affability, and customer service. Kind of a finishing school for your employees. The positives of the meal were the genuinely celebratory ambiance and the consistency of the food. Hopefully as a family we will have many more great events to celebrate. We just need to figure out where.
