A joyful mystery tour
This is a wonderful restaurant with just 6 tables. A very unusual concept with a mystery menu and a hand drawn bookmark with hints on each course. Everything was executed successfully with lovely unusual wine pairings and awesome informative staff. A great experience start to finish. We had one vegetarian menu and 1 normal with the paired wines. I had amuse bouche 1 celeriac, 1 beetroot tart with cumin which just elevated it and a cheese donut. Asparagus course, bread course, Jerusalem artichoke course, mushroom course, goats cheese pre dessert, hibiscus dessert, elderberry chocolate dessert then coffee with Italian meringue tart and custard chimney. Brian had Amuse bouche crab, ox cheek and cheese donut. Asparagus dish, bread course then turbot. Roe deer with gooseberry and venison bun then same pre dessert and desserts and sweets with coffee. Meal ยฃ160 wines ยฃ80. A real pleasure.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional dining in an intimate environment
The dining is a surprise tasting menu format, communicated by a menu card that teases an image of an ingredient included in each dish. The dining experience was all a very nice surprise with exceptional cooking, in an intimate environment, with personable and professional service. It was well worth a visit.

Splendid food, fantastic service, and an overall wonderful experience dining at Condita. Don't miss this restaurant when you are in Scotland.
Be the first to ReplyHats off to the chef!
Exceptional cooking from the team at Condita. We were made to feel incredibly special while visiting here during the fringe. Textures, flavours and aromas all working in perfect harmony with each other. The skill on display from the kitchen was unlike anything I've ever tried before. Each stage of the meal an absolute delight. Hats off to the chef!
Be the first to ReplyThe secret of the star
itโs refreshing and awe-inspiring! Luckily, I got 3 brilliant dishes out of the 10(?). Thatโs a rare occurrence even for Michelin 3-star restaurants. The onion salad, the turbot with fennel, and the pork belly with fermented potato! the canapรฉs were solid and innovative. itโs amazing how they got the star in such a short time but I know the secret. and thatโs the only thing I can complain? Someone told me they donโt know how to make certain cakes! But, who will find out if they never served one. ssssh. So, donโt expect a soufflรฉ or anything like that
Be the first to ReplyCreative, Friendly and delicious
An excellent tasting experience with a bit of theatre thrown in and staff who were relaxed and chatty throughout. The only criticism is that I would have welcomed slightly larger portions certainly for the fish and main dish.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, wine and service
Booked for a special birthday treat, the food and wine was incredible. The service was also brilliant with all the staff being very knowledgeable about each of the courses. The only area for improvement was the atmosphere. There are only a few tables and they are quite spread out which is nice for privacy however it meant it lacked atmosphere. The decor was also very sparse and the white walls made the room feel a little clinical.
Be the first to ReplyWhy has this place only got one Michelin Star???
We have eaten all round the world and this is the only place we can truly say "OMG" about. The balance... the subtlety... the imagination... the focus.... every single dish was fabulous, the service was friendly but efficient with everyone truly passionate about what they were doing. The stand out dish for me was the cheese course... but the seaweed wrapped cone with its tongue tingling surprise was a very close second - and the scallop brought the sea to our plates. Clever but unpretentious food! Mark Slaney the owner knows his wines and the pairing was fantastic, but above all he really cares about the people who work for him making sure they dont work horribly long and unsocial hours (dinner only and 5 nights a week so two days off) and they get proper holidays and Christmas and New Year off.. I just have one question: why has this place only got one Michelin star?
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food - Average Atmosphere
This is a real culinary experience. The menu and how itโs described is incredible. The flavours on each dish were incredible with food that very unique and using the best local ingredients. We did find the restaurant to be a tad stuffy, which was a shame. One small thing that was frustrating was the record player that keeps stopping and then creates and awkward silence in the restaurant as the Maรฎtre D then walks down to change the next disk. I do feel that a proper music system would compliment the restaurant. Perhaps the lights could also be darker? We could see everything happening in the restaurant. Overall a great experience but the ambience and atmosphere need tweaking.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding evening
We had an outstanding and memorable meal last Saturday. The whole experience was amazing. The staff were knowledgeable about the food and the wine and couldnโt have done more to make our evening special. The foodโฆ where to beginโฆ the food is in a class of its own in terms of taste and presentation. We will definitely be back and I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends.
Be the first to ReplyWorth every penny!!
The food was clean, unique, delicious, and unpretentious. Very minimalistic vibe, focus on the food. Small and quaint restaurant. Enjoyed every dish that was served. Condita is one of favorite Michelin starred restaurants now. The restaurant was able to accommodate my husbandโs food restriction without making him feel left out in the experience. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing adventure in food.
A magical mystery tour of dining, with clues of a bookmark to give you an idea of what's cooking. But the atmosphere is intimate and there aren't many tables in this lovely restaurant and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We loved it here having gone here for the first time and would recommend it to food lovers who are happy to go with the fact that the set menu is what you are going to be having, rather than picking your own thing. But we just loved it. Would also suggest going with the matched wines as these were spot on for the food we were eating.

After originally booking in 2020 we finally managed to get a table at Condita, and it was definitely worth the wait. Condita is definitely a fine dining experience and the restaurant is small, so it feels intimate, but also quite formal. We were one of the first tables in during the night, but it quickly filled up and the atmosphere was great once all the tables were in. The service in Condita was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly throughout. Although it was a formal dining experience, the staff made us feel very welcome and the service was excellent throughout the night. You never felt like you were too rushed or ever waiting too long, something that can be difficult to achieve during a lengthy tasting menu. The real star of the show at Condita is the food. The playful menu that just includes hand drawn pictures of key ingredients was a great way to get us talking and discussing what might be coming next. Each of the nine courses were excellent and some of the courses included ingredients and tastes I have never had before. Iโve eaten in numerous Michelin starred restaurants across the world and I can definitely say that Conditaโs food deserves the star they have. We loved every course, and the celeriac and truffle dish was a particular favourite. I also have to mention the wine list, as the wine I had was excellent and reasonable priced by the glass. Conditaโs menu is not cheap, but as a treat for a special occasion, I would say that it was worth every penny. One thing that I would mention is that there is a limited drinks menu. This was not a problem for us at all as it included wines and a gin and tonic option, as well as an excellent non-alcoholic tea infused sparkling wine alternative. However some people may wish to Have a greater range of drinks. Overall an amazing experience.

We have ben lucky enough to eat in several Michelin starred restaurants - this is amongst the best. The attention to detail and the enthusiasm of the staff was a delight. Food was imaginative and clever - that's why you go isn't it ! We had the wine pairing which was superb, and not just put in a glass, but explained with knowledge. There are other starred restaurants in Edinburgh, but try this benchmark one first ! Well done Condita - spot on. A delight !
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely outstanding
thoroughly deserves its Michelin star - nine courses of exquisitely presented and exquisitely tasting food, with a wine tasting menu of a (small) glass for each course. With just six tables (well spaced, one doesn't feel at all overcrowded) the ambience is quiet and focused on the cooking. Staff at all times knowledgeable, helpful, and just downright nice. One sitting only, a set menu, a bonne bouche, a soup (hardly the right word for the velvety explosion of flavour) two fish courses, duck (on our menu) , mushrooms, a veg creation and two puddings. Menu changes every few months. Not cheap - ยฃ200 plus a tip for a meal and the wine tasting menu - but worth every penny for the experience and the memory.

When I travel abroad I make it a point to eat at a Michelin star restaurant. After reviewing what was available in Edinburgh, I knew Condita was the one. I made my reservations 5 months in advance. Mark did a great job of following up, informing me of price changes and confirmation. I was a bit early to my seating, but the staff had no problem adapting and making me feel welcome. The meal was exquisite from beginning to end. The staff made me feel so welcome and was very interested and my travels, what Iโve done while on scotland, etc. Made me feel right at home as a single diner. Chefs were amazing. Food was amazing and wine pairing was amazing. You must go!
Be the first to ReplySuper surprise tasting menu
Situated a ten minute taxi ride away from the city centre you could easily walk past Condita without realising the delights of what goes on inside and that is part of the charm! It is a ten course surprise tasting menu with no substitutions on the night but they make allowances for dietary issues informed in advance. There is no menu but you are presented with a "bookmark" with sketches which illustrate each course and it can be amusing to guess what might be coming next - some are not obvious. The kitchen is lead by Conor Toomey who has a great CV and produces dishes of high technical quality and visual appeal. All the courses worked for us. The place is quite minimalist with no frills and there is short wine list with some excellent offerings at affordable prices. The Keush sparkling wine from Armenia was a really interesting choice and the staff are great wine enthusiasts with a quest for knowledge. It is not cheap but an excellent experience overall.

From the moment we walked in the experience began - the attention to detail , knowledgeable staff who brought their passion with them - topped with what was the best meal I have eaten . The tastes and textures were sublime , I loved the hand drawn menu which offered clues and kept you guessing . As we finished each course we said it was the best , but they just got better !! Standouts for me the Artichoke dessert and the Onion started Tatin - we will be back for more !!!

Stunning experience from the moment we arrived and were met at the entrance. Most amazing food with intense flavors and wonderful ingredients all accompanied by superb wines. Service from all the team was first class and this restaurant deserves its Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious meal at Condita
For our first night in Edinburgh (after arriving on red-eye that morning), we had a very special and celebratory evening at Condita to kick off our vacation. The tasting menu was seasonal and yummy and we enjoyed using the illustrated bookmark presented at the beginning of the meal to guess each course before it arrived. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We liked how sparely decorated yet warm the room was. It was pretty without being pretentious.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful romantic evening
My partner recently treated me to a meal out to Condita as a birthday present. The staff were polite and extremely attentive. I was particularly impressed with the recommendations regarding the wines; it transpired that our waiter had actually visited the vineyard in question in France several weeks before. The decoration in the restaurant was pleasant and the atmosphere was a delight. The tasting menu was seasonal, fresh and consistently surprising.
Be the first to ReplyDon't fall for the 'complimentary' glass of Champagne and check your bill
We ate here in February 2022 and had a very poor experience. After discovering there were no spirits bar brandy and no soft drinks bar tea (wholly ridiculous), we declined an introductory drink. We were then surprisingly approached with what was called a 'complimentary' glass of champagne with three choices provided. We were advised as there were six of us to all choose the same champagne. We did not check the bill at the end of the evening but later found out this comlimentary glass had been added to our bill as a ยฃ90 bottle of Champagne. After a lot of negotiation in the days ahead, when we were told we were the ones who had been mistaken on the night, this cost was refunded. There is a similar experience described here on Tripadvisor from 2021 in the poor ratings and I know of others who have described having to have their bill revised because of various 'mistakes'. Secondly the food was average (bar a couple of courses) for a Michelin starred restaurant. The vegetarian menu reused ingredients and nearly all dishes were largely tepid in temperature and long waits between courses. Very overpriced. The atmosphere and decor has been misjudged and comes across as a 'pop-up' venture. Not nearly good enough, the 'in house artist' who paints on panels of materials each season is not enough to rescue the cold, worn, and functional atmosphere and is a pretentious excuse for not actually spending some money on decorating. A final rather disconcerting issue was that I mistook the staff toilet for the customer toilet and having used it I found there was no soap to wash my hands....thankfully we had finished our meal otherwise I would have been loathe to continue eating. Nothing would make me return here.
Be the first to ReplyUnique Taster Menu
The ten course taster menu offered a variety of unique dishes that you would not find elsewhere. Each course stood out individually but worked well amongst the entire menu. The staff were extremely knowledgable about both the food and drink available and it was a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, but pretentious
Great food, exceptionally tasty and innovative. lovely staff, who were knowledgeable and pleasant however no atmosphere. Dining here is greatโฆ. However it is like eating in a cross between a library and operating theatre. So not for me.
Be the first to ReplyBest food, service and wine pairings I've had in UK in years!
Simply first class from start to finish. The small simple restaurant has an confrtable yet efficinent ambinence. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and attentive but without 'hovering'. Highly recommended and well worth the wait when booking, were I in edinburgh would go again.
