Great food! Had a great birthday celebration here! Looking forward to going back again.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a cozy, high end Peruvian restaurant in East Harlem.
They offer indoor and outdoor seating. I sat at the bar for dinner. The corn croquetas were crispy, flavorful, and a generous portion size. I also enjoyed the caramelized beets, which were firm and subtly balanced by the goat gouda. For my main, I had the Peruvian barley. It was similar to a mushroom risotto but the barley was a bit of a harder texture. It was still creamy and perfectly savory. To drink, I had the Cococontento cocktail. It was sweet but tasty. The waitstaff were very attentive. It was definitely pricey but the food was high quality. It's worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyThis was really amazing.
We went with a group of four and got ceviche, sunchokes, beets, yakisoba, pork belly, two short ribs, and then finished with olive oil cake and chocolate mousse. Every bite was fantastic, with the absolute musts for me next time being the yakisoba, pork belly, short ribs, and maybe the ceviche. I'd probably skip the olive oil cake next time.

4 stars overall, should be 5 but the service started off on the wrong foot - we waited about 10 minutes for the server to come over for our cocktail order despite showing up early around 5:15. This place requires a reservation as it's packed. We ordered the a bunch of apps: pork belly (my favorite), ceviche (good), yuca (just ok), sunchokes (just ok) and octopus (very good). For entrees the 4 of us split the scallops, short rib and duck. The scallops were excellent. When I return, l will order more of the appetizers.
Be the first to ReplyFinally made it uptown, and it was worth the trip.
Amazingly friendly and welcoming staff, including Chef! The restaurant is cozy, and feels like a place you want to come back again and again. The wine list is excellent - varied and interesting. We tried a couple cocktails as well, which were well made upgrades to more familiar drinks. The food was great and prepared to perfection. The sauces on the sunchokes and scallops are complex and bright, perfectly complimenting the dish. The pumpkin is like nothing I've had before - not my favorite texture, but I enjoyed the flavors very much. The barley was very good with delicious mushrooms and truffle, but maybe underwhelming compared to everything else. Olive oil cake was the perfect ending with a light spice and delicate sweetness. Would absolutely recommend, and I'll definitely go back again!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is simply amazing.
The atmosphere was fun and light and the food was amazing. My wife and I went here with two of our friends from out of town. We wanted to try something new and we like to support our neighborhood. My wife was pregant and they had a great nonalcoholic list including some interesting mocktails. She got a purple corn mock tail that was amazing. We ordered the beets, yuca, ceviche, sunchokes to the start. AMAZING. The beets were such a star dish for us. For entrees, two of the party ordered the scallops with ink which were delicious, I ordered the duck with green rice which was amazing and someone else ordered the short rib and udon. Everything was great...we even ordered another yuca :) I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you are ever in East Harlem or UES this place is a MUST!

Excellent drinks and food, pity the place is so small as a bigger bar would make it perfect. The attention to detail puts it head and shoulders above any other place in Harlem or UE12/31/22 - just gets better, a gem

We had a very special NYE with the prix fixe menú at Contento. If you're not familiar with Contento's story, it tackles an issue prevalent in NYC of accessible dining. This is the first bar I have see in NYC that offers a lower height bar, allowing wheelchair users to sit at the bar. NYE menu was a bargain and the bisque and the pumpkin miso cheesecake are tied for my favorite part of the meal although the roast chicken and mashed potatoes were also incredible.
Be the first to ReplyCute place.
Very nice and the food was very good. Great service. Definitely worth checking out if in Harlem

We went to Contento for the 5-course Elevated Peruvian Dinner Event back in March. The inside was cozy and warm, welcoming with bright wall artworks on exposed brick walls. They had a beautiful bar, fully stocked. We ordered Perusado and Bourbon Lemonade to go with our dinner. Perusado was fruity and elegantly sweet. Lemonade had a nice sweetness to it, strong and relaxing. The first course was Beet (yes, BEET, not beef) Tartare. This dish had the perfect mixture of crunchy and velvety textures, with a nice kick to it, spicy! Great starter dish to cleanse your pallet. The second course was Octopus Ceviche. Octopus was plump and super flavorful. Loved the crispy and crunchy chicharron. It sure was a medley of flavor and texture. The third course was Quinoa & Corn Risotto. I can't say enough about this dish, I absolutely loved everything about this dish! The fourth course was Arroz Con Pato, duck leg with Peruvian green rice and crunchy cabbage slaw. This is one of their most popular dish, so I was excited to try it! With the first bite, I understood the reasons behind its popularity. Duck meat just falls off the bone, super crispy skin, and very juicy meat! The last course was Chocolate & Passion Fruit Tart. It had a velvety and creamy passion fruit top, gently hugging the chocolate inside, which had the texture of mousse. So good!We had an amazing dinner here. Everything was well crafted, flavor and texture was perfect in each one, and it was delicious from the first bite to the last.

Amazing food, drinks and vibe! A much needed and welcome addition to the neighborhood. A creative Peruvian-Latin American cuisine. The wine list is fantastic as well. Highly recommend.

...Please don't let this place mobbed by average Palateless people .....and the contemplation of either praise this place and forget about getting a sit for the next 3 years... or not say a thing .So I will say .This place is a gem and it's up there in Harlem, But worth any schlep from everywhere.Fantastic menu that got everything for everyone.I took the world class duck pate . I ate many types of pats around the world - this one is at the top !The short ribs with eclectic unique side of spicy noodles were great .Finally the corn cake (though I was contemplating the chocolate mouse...) was flavorable and light.Excellent (and very fair priced) wine list which for me was the great merlo from Margalit. You also want to try the Peruvian light purple corn drink (forgot the name :) fresh and fun.Great service !!!!Very friendly atmosphere!Definitely a Destination!!!!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a delicious Latin American restaurant.
Definitely on the high-end side of the cuisine and service was very good. The wine was affordable and delicious - the sommelier was very helpful. Everything was delicious but would definitely recommend the panisse fries and the ceviche.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and interesting.
Great presentation and flavors. Highlights were everything we ordered including mushroom barley, snapper ceviche, octopus, tuna main dish, and add short ribs. Heated outdoor patio was truly very warm and pleasant.
Be the first to ReplyContento is everything I love rolled into one: Peruvian
Contento is everything I love rolled into one: Peruvian food, a long but affordable wine list, a 90s-centric hip hop/rap backdrop (the music is killer), a true neighborhood spot and a business with an admirable mission. If any of those things (or a combination) appeal to you, you'll probably love Contento as much as I do. While it's pretty remarkable (read: unfortunate) that Contento's commitment to accessibility is novel in 2022, it's still cool to see in action. Table heights that are more accommodating to folks in wheelchairs should not be groundbreaking , though I thought the design of bar seating at two different heights was really thoughtful and impressive. Overall, the vibe here is so warm and welcoming that you will find yourself lingering at the end of your meal, prolonging your time in this magical little space. We dined at Contento on Valentine's Day, a wonderfully cozy experience. The space is a lot smaller than I imagined (there's outdoor seating as well, which I didn't get a good look at), which I'm sure is partly why it's so hard to get a reservation. Upon walking in, you will immediately be greeted by some extremely down to earth staff and some of the best music you'll hear at a restaurant (not only do Salt-N-Pepa grace the salt and pepper shakers here but they also make an appearance on the playlist). Contento is a wine more than a cocktail destination, but we had to sample some of each. I first tried the Ellington (gin, dolin vermouth, lillet blancorange bitters, fresh citrus), which is Contento's take on a white negroni. My second cocktail was the Spruce to Meet You (bourbon, fig-infused aperol, sauternes), which was a very rustic and delicious old fashioned variation. My fiancé got the Perusado (pisco, cherry, pineapple, lemon) -- one must order a pisco cocktail at a Peruvian restaurant -- and the Lime and Coconut (light rum, mahina coco, maraschino liqueur, pressed coconut, fresh lime). We were impressed by all mixology here, but we each had to order a glass of wine with our last course, just to round out the experience (for research!). Our glasses were delicious, but next time we'll likely go for one of their "Wines of Impact" (Contento's by the bottle list mainly features bottles under $60 -- a rarity in Manhattan -- and features many bottles made by women, BIPOC, and indigenous folks). Food-wise, it seems that it's nearly impossible to go wrong here. Everything we tried was fantastic at the very least, mind blowing at the very best. There are few things better than perfectly executed octopus and fresh ceviche -- both stunners here. Portion sizes are fairly small and conducive to sharing. We ended up ordering one more dish than we had planned and it was just the right about of food. That said, we ordered many of the lighter dishes on the menu, so do keep that in mind. Eats, below:Deviled Eggs w/ with aji amarillo: A+My fiancé said deviled eggs are boring and was very against ordering these but once they arrived he quite literally ate his words. These were delightfully umami and actually quite decadent.Salmon Tiradito w/ avocado and aji amarillo: AFresh fish paired beautifully with the sweet-and-spicy aji amarillo. Served with plantain chips as yummy crunch vessels for the cured and creamy goodness.Octopus w/ black chimichurri & chilled cauliflower gazpacho: A+This octopus is a thing to behold. Cooked perfectly (often the hardest part), and the flavor combo of the chimichurri and cauliflower showed quite impressive technique and it complemented the octopus beautifully. Caramelized Badger Flame Beets w/ shaved goat cheese, sunflower seeds, buttermilk dressing: AThe only true veggie dish on the menu and it is not to be overlooked. Beets and goat cheese are a timeless combination and it never ceases to satisfy. Shaved hard goat cheese as opposed to crumbled soft goat cheese was an elegant touch. Ceviche Clasico w/ red snapper: A+This! This is possibly the best ceviche clasico I've ever had. It was so fresh, bursting with flavor, zingy and citrusy and bright. Duck and Rice: AOne of the smaller mains, this dish does a lot right without covering much surface area. The duck was perhaps a tiny bit overcooked, but still delicious. The rice was the surprise for me, as I will rarely voluntarily eat rice (while it's my fiancé's carb of choice) but this was just delicious. Seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of crisp.

Enjoyed a pre-birthday celebration with a few friends at this location. Very nice atmosphere, and person who appeared to be the owner checked on our table several times. Food and drinks were delicious, and blankets to keep you warm in the outside seating area was a nice touch. Regrettably, the Hostess needs curbside manners and a more personable touch. Not accommodating, not friendly and certainly rushed us out after dropping $600 for dinner, because out time was up.

4 stars but rounded up because of their accessibility efforts!Made a reservation for the outdoor patio and glad we did. They have 2 sections. The first is right near the entrance, with heated lamps and more privacy. The second is on the street, which fits more tables but also heated. They provide blankets as well. We were warm and toasty.I'm pregnant and didn't have any alcoholic drinks but I overheard some details of their extensive wine list from neighboring tables. Their sommelier seems very versed in wine and can make great recommendations. I love that they had a non alcoholic section as well that offered options of de- alcoholized wine and mocktails. To eat, we had the:Crispy Pork belly: this was my favorite dish. The skin has the perfect crunch and the sauce is super tasty. It didn't feel too rich or fatty. Quinoa biscuits: my 2nd favorite. Warm biscuits with homemade butter that's got a little bit of heat in it. YUMSalmon Tiradito: this was good but I've had better fish prepared in a similar manner. Yuca: love the sauce that came with this. I'm used to the usual preparation where it's served with garlic and oil but this was refreshing and lighter than normal. Duck with rice: nice flavor combinations but the rice was a bit undercooked and the overall dish felt dry. It needed more acidity and a sauce of some sort. Short rib udon: short rib was cooked perfectly but I was expecting the udon to be a bit more creamy. Olive oil cake: this was delicious and not too sweet. Highly recommend! Overall, great little gem. We took a car over to the restaurant. The neighborhood seemed a little dodgy at night but food and service was great!

We had a wonderful experience! We loved the heated patio - it's extremely charming. Heads up it's fully enclosed, if that's something you're concerned with. I went with a group of four and had a wonderful time - we split a bottle of rose and one person also had a cocktail. There are also several mocktail options, and our friend who had one said it was delicious (it had jalapeno and pineapple). The food was incredible - we had the crispy yucca, the deviled eggs, the classic ceviche, the ahi tuna tartar, the short ribs with udon, and all three desserts, ha! I would recommend every single thing we ate, it was all incredible. the udon and short ribs were particularly incredible, and all their desserts were amazing! I will absolutely go back again! We also had wonderful service. I can't say enough good things!

Delicious food; great service (the restaurant even accommodated a switch indoors from patio. Our group of four tried many dishes and overall were very pleased. Highlights were the udon noodles with short rib, the pork belly and the octopus.we felt the mousse dessert was tasty but very small for the price.we all ordered multiple cocktails which we felt were generally good but a little watered down (mostly the uno uno uno) relative to the price. a ~$18 cocktail should pack a full punch.we will be back but maybe stick with wine.

Came here for my birthday dinner - just my boyfriend and myself. Couple of things that stood out for us:1. extensive wine list. mara, the sommelier was very knowledgable and we ended up trying something new to us which we loved.2. service overall was great - all very friendly.3. love the chill vibe and the music4. the short ribs udon.... 10/10!5. the whole restaurant is accessible. this is a big deal bc not nearly enough restaurants cater to diners in wheelchairs!I'll be back and next time with friends!!

My three friends and I came for the first time this evening and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, and the ambience was exactly what we were looking for - cozy and warm and upbeat. Our meal was DELICIOUS - the quinoa biscuit was probably the best biscuit I've ever had, and my pork katsu entree was excellent. The orange wine we had was also lovely. Can't recommend Contento highly enough - perfect place for a classed up dinner, drinks, or date with friends. Thanks to the owners and staff for a great night!

Nice vibe, great ambiance, outdoor seating is kept at a great temperature and complimented with cozy blankets waiting for each guest on their chairs! The food was really great! I had both the salmon avocado and octopus dishes for apps. For dinner the udon with beef--really good! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant! Really a gem located on the outskirts of Harlem.
