I went back there with a friend few weeks ago.
It was close to 20 years ago when I visited there for the first time. I was glad to see the venue is still busy and a happening place! The food is excellent and the service is great - no wonder they still are a popular place!

The servers I suppose try their best but the floor was either understaffed or badly organized. The separate "drink server" dropped the half-full glass of Diet Coke in front of me - the glass itself was half the size of a normal Diet Coke anywhere else but I suppose that is to be expected at these "trendy" places. I will give them, that I was there at their absolute PEAK hour, Saturday afternoon, needed to grab something after skating, I was starving (I am a figure skater and hadn't had breakfast). In any case, I was thirsty and inhaled my soda and as I typically do not like to drink tap water (or pay $25 for bottled water) & was waiting for the server to notice that my glass was empty. The same waiter who greeted me and took my order did not. For 30 minutes. There was a small built SUPER ATTENTIVE and nice (Asian) gentleman with spiked hair, who asked me what I was drinking and he said he would get me a refill. This took 40 minutes, until he asked me if I ever got my drink and then personally went to get it. Someone else had dropped the ball. A third waiter, a taller woman, who dropped off my burger, was borderline rude when I mentioned that I was also waiting for a Diet Coke. "It's coming!" she said and turned her back. I get it. I have been a waiter. When the floor starts to get out of hand it's a crazy experience. You cannot get tangled into "someone else's" table/with the other waiters' customers. I still to this day, though, really do not know who my waiter/ress really was. I waited for my burger for close to an hour and did not have a drink to go with it by the time it arrived. They did bring it half way through me finishing my burger, which is not the end of the world, I had, after all, already had one Diet coke to quench most of my thirst -- but it would just help the whole place if they served at least soft drinks in bigger glasses, period. Positives: The really awesome waiter who noticed my empty glass and was super kind and attentive. The burger was pretty tasty. I would have loved to have ketchup, maybe even mayo to go with my cheeseburger that I ordered with a salad, instead of fries, but there was NO WAY I was going to try to get anyone's attention at this place. The initial tall lanky dark hair dude who had taken my order - and who I suppose I ended tipping my obligatory 20% because I cannot bring myself to NOT tip 20%... which.. I think is why we get this kind of service as the tip is not really paying for good service, it's supplementing the restaurant owner's pockets by helping with wages. In any case, this guy, the only time I heard from him after he took my order, was "How's the burger?" It was so annoying at this point, as I could have used salt, pepper, ketchup(!!) *hello!!? It's a cheeseburger! ..that I just nodded and kept eating. I was in such a good mood after my skate -- The diet coke was delicious and not watery at all and came with a wedge of lemon - maybe it tasted so delicious because I had to wait for it so long...? And the cheeseburger was actually pretty good, although almost undercooked for "medium", but not bad at all-- that none of this really dampened my day - I just thought I had to leave a review. Do not go here when it's crowded, especially in a smaller party that is not drinking. You will be left to fend for yourself. Cookshop is overrated, great location, good coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Co *at least it used to be from there. Service is.. eh. Food is.. decent. The salad that came with the burger was romaine leaves and some pickled onions. Nothing else. With a vinegary dressing. It would have been too vinegary but to accompany something greasy like a cheeseburger it fit the bill. Update: They reached out to me and I revised the starts on this review (they did not ask me to). I should have never have left only one star anyway since food wasn't bad -- it just goes to show how important service is. They offered a free meal I don't know if I want to take it, I would feel like everyone there will know why I'm eating there on the house and I would just feel bad. Anyway it very nice to hear back from them, that shows commitment to excellence.

SKIP the beignets if you're looking for traditional ones! They're actually like fried dough balls. The buttermilk biscuit was delicious though and I wish we tried the cinnamon bun instead of the beignets and cornmeal pancakes. My partner loved the egg sandwich! Next time I'd try the baked eggs or huevos rancheros. The "When Doves Cry" cocktail was refreshing and yummy!

Food is in season and well prepared. The service is top notch.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant has a lot of windows and natural light.
The burgers were juicy and savory and the salads had the right amount of seasoning. If you want something light yet refreshing, order the bibb salad (add a protein to make it heartier)

We ordered the shrimp cocktail, pull pork croquettes, grilled asparagus sandwich, and fries for lunch. Croquettes and sandwich was just a mouthful of mustard, mustard, mustard. Even my 2 year old spat out the food, and he's a pretty good eater. Ordered the chicken after that but it was quite peppery. At $120 (plus tip), it wasn't the most satisfying meal. Waitress was a bit blur when we asked for the bill, just stood there instead of asking our server. Not the most family friendly restaurant.

Just ate the worst breakfast sandwich in my 20+ years in NYC. C'mon now Cookshop. Gets one star for the Bloody.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great.
The service was wonderful and the atmosphere is really inviting. We definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyWe popped in for a drink and a snack.
Our server gave us little time or attention. The snack, the cheese board, was kinda pricey for the amount of food, but it was tasty. The wine pour seemed skimpy, but the wine was good. The ambiance was okay. Lively neighborhood, good for people watching, and a nice end to a High Line walk. We got we were looking for, but not as much as we wanted.

.. think the good service and ample seating must account for its continuing popularity.
Be the first to ReplyEVERYTHING was sour - the drinks, the apps, the food.
The food literally tasted like it came out of a pickle jar. The service wasn't too great either, I was asked if I wanted another glass of wine after I almost finished my pickled dinner They don't even have a burger on the menu! Not at all like it used to be. $14 for a side of Asparagus makes no sense, like, none at all.

Getting seated took a long time even though we had a reservation. It felt like we waited 10 min before being seated. The staff just kept talking amongst themselves and awkwardly looking at each other. Food was OK. We had the mushrooms for appetizers which were good. For our entrees we did the seafood burger which tasted like chicken and had a weird texture; we also had the scallops which were good. The sides- we had the asparagus which were ok, the carrot slaw wasn't good, and the spring onions were greasy. The time to get our food was extremely slow. The staff was also very slow. They kept checking on us when our food didn't even arrive yet so we had to ask them what happened to our order
Be the first to Replygreat service, always solid food and super friendly hosts.
got the huevos rancheros and it was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyCook Shop is the safest bet in Chelsea.
The food is always good. The staff always friendly. The only downside is that inside is VERY loud. I have a problem hearing so inside is never an option. Thank goodness they have outdoor space, which I usually despise, so that makes everything alright.

I would love to give this place five stars because ambiance and service were impeccable. However, portion size is small for the price and some of the flavors were not on point. The citrus salad, for $16, is hardly a salad and super small for the price. Flavor is there though. The tiny taquitos were $22 which is incredibly overpriced. And flavorless, unless you add the slaw. They should stand on their own. The mushroom sandwich was bomb, however. Great seasoning and plenty of shrooms. Fries were meh--crispy and plentiful but unseasoned. Maybe the brunch menu is better.

I've always walked by this place and noticed that it's typically pretty busy every time I've passed it. Finally decided to try it out for an early brunch on a Saturday. We did not make a reservation ahead of time, but we also went right when it opened before the brunch rush in the city. Food/Drinks: - Green Juice: $10 is expensive, but I don't regret getting this because it was delicious, and I'm not going to be making a vegetable juice at home. The combination of the cucumber, apple, and ginger makes it refreshing. - Baked Eggs: This was delicious! I requested that they make sure the yolks were still runny, and they were perfectly cooked. It does come with 3 eggs, but if you're looking for a hearty breakfast, then it might not be enough food for you as this is on the lighter side since it's basically eggs, salad, and a piece of toast. - Cookshop Egg Sandwich: My friend really liked this, and it looked quite filling. The potato hash had a little kick to it, which I loved! - Buttermilk-Cornmeal Pancakes: We ordered these to split after our respective entrees above, which was great as a sweet treat at the end of the meal. I don't think I could have finished the stack on my own if I had ordered it alone, so I'm glad that we split this. It was fluffy and delicious with the caramelized apples and whipped cream. Service/Ambiance: Love the open and airy atmosphere. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. It would be great during the warmer months to sit outside for people watching. The service was fast, attentive, and friendly. Overall: I would def come back to try other options!
Be the first to ReplyI had lunch at Cookshop and the experience was outstanding.
The waiter excelled in service, showing remarkable accommodation for our late-arriving sixth guest by ensuring their food was served quickly. The Citrus Salad impressed me with its flavors, and the Baked Spaghetti was an exceptional dish. Overall, the menu offers excellent choices that cater to diverse tastes

It was 45 minutes before we received our appetizers of pastries. Since I was the host of the guests at my table I was extremely agitated at the slow service. I asked for coffee 3 x and when it arrived it was cold. I asked the waiter again and he said he would bring it but didn't. Finally I was so frustrated I went in and spoke to the manager. She was awesome and took care of everything.

Wow! The brunch at Cookshop was so delicious that I want to go back already. The hostess was incredibly nice and our server was very attentive, pleasant, and chatty. The interior is lovely and bustling but in a good way with everyone and everything having a purpose. The outdoor covered seating was also a neat option, but we did eat in the energetic dining room. Just the regular coffee was very good with milk of your choice. The fluffy fried beignets with the jam on the bottom were delightful. They were topped with powdered sugar and were a sweet treat to start our meal. The poached egg dish was perfectly prepared from the sweet potato hummus to the runny egg centers to the crunchy seed topping. This dish is a can't miss especially with that grilled sourdough bread on the side. If you are in NY, I highly recommend this green market hot spot!

Came here after doing a Peloton class with my aunt nearby! We had a 5 PM reservation and we sat outside. Blankets were provided but the heater lights were just enough.I'm not even joking when I say the "Focaccia whipped ricotta, olive oil, lemon, rosemary" bread was the best bread and dip I have ever tried! Warm, soft bread too.For my main meal, I got the Sun Dried Tomato Pizza that was the perfect size for one! I'll definitely be back when I am on that part of the city and already told my NYC friends about this place!

Freshly prepped food, skillfully, prepared, and a artsy but chill environment, created a lovely evening and a delightful experience for our group. Especially nice was our all burnt haired, beautiful and sweet waitress, who took the best care of us, and ensure that everything was perfect.:-)

Don't bother making a reservation ( at least for Sunday lunch). We showed up on time and weren't seated until more than 30 minutes after our reservation time. Tables were empty but no one to clear them. Clearly understaffed.Menu is limited and couldn't even accommodate a request for a side salad or even some sliced tomatoes.Ran out of items on the already limited menu. With so many choices in Manhattan, no need to return.

The menu featured really unique and inviting dishes, as an indecisive eater, it was difficult to commit to just one.I went with the brodetto and it was well balanced and fresh; paired well with the pino noir. The service was attentive and even brought me an additional slice of bread to sop up my remaining broth upon request. The ambiance was relaxed and modern, a great date night spot or dinner with close company. Only caveat was the focaccia bread we ordered was a bit over cooked, but was still tasty regardless.
