Coombeshead Farm Launceston Reviews from The Last Year
Superb.
What a fantastic place!! We stayed in room 9 in the grain store it was tastefully decorated and had a wonderful chilled vibe. Toby greeted us with information and a yummy treat on arrival. Their own vermouth was also a nice touch. The set menu was fabulous couldn’t fault anything! What a lovely place to go and really experience field to fork. Would highly recommend and we will certainly be back. The two loaves we bought of their famous sourdough bread are a fab way of extending and sharing this wonderful place.
Cramped room no hot water .
Dinner spectacular . Stay somewhere else . Every year we drive from Heathrow to Cornwall and this was a perfect stop off. Seeing as we only had one night we chose the smallest room which was a big mistake. Our shower didn’t have any hot water and our pillows were hard as rocks . Upon check out, we explained that our night was pretty sleepless and the shower had no hot water . They said they knew this and had meant to get it fixed. They offered us a free bread. Our dinner was delicious, and the grounds are very pretty .
Unique
We loved the concept of serving only food that they make, and it was delicious. The room in the gable was also comfortable and spacious. Waking up in a rural setting listening to the owls was marvellous. It isn’t without fault though, some hanging space for clothes would help, milk for the tea / coffee in the room avoids the need to traipse to the house in the dark, and £200 for a meal for 2 (incl wine) was steep. But I’d go again as this place is unique and what they’re trying to ecologically achieve is important for our future. As such it should be treasured.
Tantalising your taste buds 😍
All I’m going to say we are repeat visitors at this restaurant and NEVER been disappointed. Totally Amazing . Tantalising your taste buds . Recommend 100% Was disappointed that they sold out of there bread but that’s understandable as it’s so good . There is no choice you have what they cook and it’s seasonal fabulous love the whole set up . See you soon with our next friends x
Simplicity at it’s finest
Coombeshead Farm is the perfect example of “less is more”. We booked a one night stay as a stopover before heading down the Cornish Coast. From the moment arrive, the very hospitable team make you feel at home; from being greeted in the car park, to freshly baked arrival cookies and home brewed sloe gin in the room. We stayed in the grain store; the room was very spacious, with lots of character & immaculate. The food. No words! All local produce, most of which has zero food miles. Both dinner and breakfast were exceptional, as was the service. An amazing start to our Cornish getaway, we left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated & with well fed stomachs! Thank you; I’m sure we’ll be returning in the future.
A Most Underwhelming Meal
We were looking forward to our dinner at Coombeshead Farm but we came away disappointed and feeling that we paid over the odds. My small ham hock starter had virtually no meat once the jelly and large garlic bulb were discounted. In a way that didn't matter asWe then waited for an hour and twenty minutes before the main course arrived. By this time we would have had to leave the premises if the restaurant imposed the two hour table time limit they quoted with our booking. The chicken was tasty but it was served with a large plate of lettuce leaves drenched in vinaigrette and some boiled red cabbage. I couldn't help feeling we were being taken advantage of, especially as, being a set meal, we had no choice. The kitchen should also have a pretty accurate idea of timings as they would know exactly what we were going to eat. At this stage we were starting to feel that, for the same money, we could have done a great deal better cooking at home. After another wait, the dessert was tasty but a very small portion size. Those serving were friendly but service itself was very slow. Unfortunately, all of our group agreed it had been an underwhelming and frustrating evening.
Rustic vibes
Lovely farmhouse vibe experience, restaurant in what looked like a converted barn, with gorgeous thick wooden tables and sheep skin rugs strewn on chairs! Very elegant plating, interesting and creative dishes and tastes. The pate starter and sliced ham were yum. Chicken pie for main was so comforting and tasty - with perfect crust! Service friendly and attentive. Set within an estate where you can walk in the woods, visit the animals, beehives, pond after your meal. The only downside for us, was a little too much cabbage with everything AND portion of the chicken pie to share was on the small side… but otherwise a perfect Sunday lunch!
Incredible location but totally overpriced meal
We had dinner at the restaurant and were rather underwhelmed. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the restaurant has great ambiance. However, the food, although delicious and well prep, is very basic and totally overpriced. This is the ultimate field to fork experience but it does not deliver value for money. I really don’t mind paying good money for great food but this was not much different from what I could prepare myself at home.
Brilliant Sunday lunch. Food done right !!!
Heard so many good things about the food here so was very excited! The whole place is gorgeous , so relaxed and comfy. Food was absolutely incredible , every single thing off of the set menu was tasty and even better knowing that so much produce is right on site . Wine went perfect and was so chilled and refreshing, service was spot on without being over the top . Just really friendly and informal. Giving you space to eat but not leaving you wanting for anything. Pricing is spot on and I think very reasonable for the standard and amount of food we had. Took a stroll around the farm after our meal, just seeing all the produce growing and animals etc all in one space , this really should be the way forward for consumers who care about the environment and how far there food travels . Will definitely be back .

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
