Superb.
What a fantastic place!! We stayed in room 9 in the grain store it was tastefully decorated and had a wonderful chilled vibe. Toby greeted us with information and a yummy treat on arrival. Their own vermouth was also a nice touch. The set menu was fabulous couldn’t fault anything! What a lovely place to go and really experience field to fork. Would highly recommend and we will certainly be back. The two loaves we bought of their famous sourdough bread are a fab way of extending and sharing this wonderful place.
Be the first to ReplyCramped room no hot water .
Dinner spectacular . Stay somewhere else . Every year we drive from Heathrow to Cornwall and this was a perfect stop off. Seeing as we only had one night we chose the smallest room which was a big mistake. Our shower didn’t have any hot water and our pillows were hard as rocks . Upon check out, we explained that our night was pretty sleepless and the shower had no hot water . They said they knew this and had meant to get it fixed. They offered us a free bread. Our dinner was delicious, and the grounds are very pretty .

We loved the concept of serving only food that they make, and it was delicious. The room in the gable was also comfortable and spacious. Waking up in a rural setting listening to the owls was marvellous. It isn’t without fault though, some hanging space for clothes would help, milk for the tea / coffee in the room avoids the need to traipse to the house in the dark, and £200 for a meal for 2 (incl wine) was steep. But I’d go again as this place is unique and what they’re trying to ecologically achieve is important for our future. As such it should be treasured.

All I’m going to say we are repeat visitors at this restaurant and NEVER been disappointed. Totally Amazing . Tantalising your taste buds . Recommend 100% Was disappointed that they sold out of there bread but that’s understandable as it’s so good . There is no choice you have what they cook and it’s seasonal fabulous love the whole set up . See you soon with our next friends x

Coombeshead Farm is the perfect example of “less is more”. We booked a one night stay as a stopover before heading down the Cornish Coast. From the moment arrive, the very hospitable team make you feel at home; from being greeted in the car park, to freshly baked arrival cookies and home brewed sloe gin in the room. We stayed in the grain store; the room was very spacious, with lots of character & immaculate. The food. No words! All local produce, most of which has zero food miles. Both dinner and breakfast were exceptional, as was the service. An amazing start to our Cornish getaway, we left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated & with well fed stomachs! Thank you; I’m sure we’ll be returning in the future.
Be the first to ReplyA Most Underwhelming Meal
We were looking forward to our dinner at Coombeshead Farm but we came away disappointed and feeling that we paid over the odds. My small ham hock starter had virtually no meat once the jelly and large garlic bulb were discounted. In a way that didn't matter asWe then waited for an hour and twenty minutes before the main course arrived. By this time we would have had to leave the premises if the restaurant imposed the two hour table time limit they quoted with our booking. The chicken was tasty but it was served with a large plate of lettuce leaves drenched in vinaigrette and some boiled red cabbage. I couldn't help feeling we were being taken advantage of, especially as, being a set meal, we had no choice. The kitchen should also have a pretty accurate idea of timings as they would know exactly what we were going to eat. At this stage we were starting to feel that, for the same money, we could have done a great deal better cooking at home. After another wait, the dessert was tasty but a very small portion size. Those serving were friendly but service itself was very slow. Unfortunately, all of our group agreed it had been an underwhelming and frustrating evening.

Lovely farmhouse vibe experience, restaurant in what looked like a converted barn, with gorgeous thick wooden tables and sheep skin rugs strewn on chairs! Very elegant plating, interesting and creative dishes and tastes. The pate starter and sliced ham were yum. Chicken pie for main was so comforting and tasty - with perfect crust! Service friendly and attentive. Set within an estate where you can walk in the woods, visit the animals, beehives, pond after your meal. The only downside for us, was a little too much cabbage with everything AND portion of the chicken pie to share was on the small side… but otherwise a perfect Sunday lunch!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible location but totally overpriced meal
We had dinner at the restaurant and were rather underwhelmed. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the restaurant has great ambiance. However, the food, although delicious and well prep, is very basic and totally overpriced. This is the ultimate field to fork experience but it does not deliver value for money. I really don’t mind paying good money for great food but this was not much different from what I could prepare myself at home.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant Sunday lunch. Food done right !!!
Heard so many good things about the food here so was very excited! The whole place is gorgeous , so relaxed and comfy. Food was absolutely incredible , every single thing off of the set menu was tasty and even better knowing that so much produce is right on site . Wine went perfect and was so chilled and refreshing, service was spot on without being over the top . Just really friendly and informal. Giving you space to eat but not leaving you wanting for anything. Pricing is spot on and I think very reasonable for the standard and amount of food we had. Took a stroll around the farm after our meal, just seeing all the produce growing and animals etc all in one space , this really should be the way forward for consumers who care about the environment and how far there food travels . Will definitely be back .

We have just returned from the most wonderful night away! Coombeshead Farm was a recommendation and it was well worth the visit. Fantastic welcome, very comfortable room and the surroundings will get you relaxed in no time ... NO TV ... NO MOBILE SIGNAL!!!! Perfect!!! Got the chance to walk around and meet the animals and see the gardens. Everything in the restaurant is season and super fresh. The dinner service was outstanding, as we were right upfront to the charcoal grill and plate station. Breakfast again was local and flavoursome! My last comments are directed at the team ... Thank you so much, you were all wonderful, attentive and incredible. We are now planning our return visit and thinking who else we can bring to experience the 'Coombeshead Farm' welcome and food!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful stay with beautiful food
We loved our stay. We stayed in the cottage which was comfortable and warm if the weather was not. The food was not precious but perfect—the ingredients and the time that goes into each item from the butter to the bread (the bread!!) to the greens and the meats—everything that should seem familiar, ordinary even, was eye opening and stunning. The care and thought was evident everywhere. We were so impressed with the team who worked together so beautifully and tirelessly to present a warm and welcoming escape. They never failed to help with any and every little thing. To the crank who complained and begrudged the 12.5% gratuity (“wasn’t made clear” though was on the bill like EVERY restaurant) shame on him for failing to recognise the enormous effort and energy required to keep Coombeshead humming!
Be the first to ReplyFlawless experience.
Visited Coombeshead Farm as a post-Xmas birthday treat from my girlfriend and it was flawless. Arrived a couple hours late to check-in, one of the chefs / waiters / hosts came out to check us in (it’s nice to see everyone work in different aspects of the business) to our incredibly cosy room. Local tea and coffee supplies plus a little bottle of home-made earl grey gin. Room was simple, Scandi-rustic, beautiful. Bathroom was spotless with a huge freestanding tub, we took two baths, one after dinner and one in the morning! No TV which was great, who is watching TV in this stunning setting? Dinner was a 7-course tasting menu, all cooked to perfection which a varied wine list. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The kitchen is open plan and leads onto dining area which is intimately set up with candles, dried flowers and fur hides on every chair. Chefs all said hello on entry. Breakfast was a host of local and homemade foods, cold and hot. We took a walk around the farm, saw the animals, veg patches and bees then sat in the farm shop, bought some pickles and flour before being collected. Could not recommend this place enough to anybody. Well done team.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent !
We haven’t been for some time and we were pleased to see the investment in the facilities, underpinned with the original culture of natural and sustainable lifestyle. The rooms were superb and every member of staff went out of their way to ensure that we had a good time (including the dog). As to the food - outstanding and creative with home grown produce, supplemented by a short but well selected wine list. The cafe and shop are a great addition too.

Simply brilliant time staying here. Having been bright Joni the village and knowing Coombeshead as a working dairy farm it was fascinating to come back and stay. We stayed in the farmhouse which is so comfortable. The food is quite amazing. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyA hidden culinary gem and wonderful place to stay and unwind which deserves seeking out.
An absolute gem. A truly stunning location with a perfectly judged informal but truly luxurious approach and delivery throughout every aspect of our stay. Combine that with sublime food cooked by an incredibly talented team led by Tom and this truly is a place to seek out. Some of the gastronomic highlights… the best Pork Pie in history enjoyed over lunch in the courtyard. A perfectly judged dinner in the restaurant that dazzled with the quality of the home grown/reared and locally sourced ingredients and the genius of their cooking. Our room was stunning too. Spacious, comfortable and beautifully designed and with lovely period furniture and a stunning bathroom. Places this good, with a team so clearly proud of what they are creating, deserve all the plaudits they will inevitably receive. A truly memorable experience from beginning to end and one we hope to repeat in the near future.

Came here for lunch after reading a review in Country Living magazine and we weren't disappointed. The food was very good indeed. Seasonal and sustainable at its best. Lovely setting too. Hats off to Tom Adams and his team!
Be the first to ReplyWow - amazing!
My husband and I had the most spectacular two night stay (wish we could have stayed longer). We stayed in Room 9, Grain Store and the room was majestic; spacious, high spec finish, warm, cosy, inviting, luxurious, everything we love. We enjoyed the beautiful free standing bath and walk in shower. We had a brilliant nights sleep; even the cockerel that we’d been pre-warned about didn’t wake us; we could only hear it faintly one morning, but this just added to the charm of the place. We loved waking to bird song and the quiet of the countryside. On arrival we had complimentary homemade earl grey gin and cake and they both tasted delicious and we really appreciated it!! We enjoyed the specially selected complimentary coffee, lose teas and freshly picked mint leaves. From the moment we arrived we received a warm welcome, the feel of the place was friendly, relaxed, informal and felt like a home from home. We loved wondering around the extensive grounds and seeing the pigs, and beautifully nurtured kitchen garden and working bakery. We fully appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee at the cafe on arrival; sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed a homemade sausage roll which was packed full of flavour and blew our minds; best sausage roll we’ve ever had! We loved the views of green fields, chickens and cows sat in the courtyard cafe. We loved the five course dinner in the restaurant, which started sat outside in the sunny courtyard enjoying a cocktail and canapés, then moved into the restaurant; the food blew our minds, using locally sourced (mainly from the farm) ingredients and was packed full of flavour, delicious and refreshingly different and vibrant. Breakfast was also like nothing we’ve ever had anywhere we’ve stayed previously; we loved the refreshingly different food, which was super tasty and loved the little surprises thrown in here and there. If you love your food and are open minded you will love this place! I feel this place is oozing love, charm, and innovation, and we loved it! We’ll definitely be back.

Mixed feelings - We arrived for Sunday lunch and had a coffee. What a beautiful setting, calm, peaceful and a stunning building. An interesting menu, all beautifully prepared, highlights for me were the beignets, stunning coppa, really stunning. The terrine was well made, tasty and beautifully presented with fresh (slightly burnt) sourdough. The hens egg and ricotta was a little lacking in flavour but the garlic helped. The main, hmm, kings new clothes perhaps. No doubting the quality of meat, well prepared pastry but served with lettuce sprinkled with miso and a bowl of cabbage greens (leaves). Certainly the seasoning of the pie made up for the rather uninteresting greens. No potatoes 🤷🏻 ♂️. For me, a side dish do something potatoey would have been welcomed. Desert was absolutely stunning, a choux bun, again, well made and flavoursome. A fantastic experience, diluted slightly by an interesting menu. Recommended for a treat, the perfect service, ambience and a beautiful space made for a great meal. Thank you, I wish I could buy some of your stunning
Be the first to ReplyWonderful stay
We stayed for one night and everything was perfect - from our welcome at the car to lovely room in the Farm House - to drinks and snacks in the courtyard - to fabulous dinner with fresh innovative ingredients and delightful service - everyone passionate about what they do - breakfast was also stunning - creamed leeks with farm eggs and hogs pudding sausage - then stocked up on tomato plants and sadly had to leave.
Be the first to ReplyJust what a relaxing break in the country should be!
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish! A warm welcome, delightful room in the main farmhouse- we instantly felt at home and loved the informal atmosphere- we really felt like we were visiting friends- much nicer than a hotel environment, but with all the attention to detail. We had two nights of total relaxation. A beautiful setting in the heart of the countryside, quiet and peaceful. The food is sensational- modern, sensitive handling of traditionally produced ingredients- the sourdough bread is exceptional- the dinner was well thought out, and every course was delicious. The breakfast of home made butter, bread, malt loaf , sourdough, jam, honey and Bircher muesli was excellent-with the option of an additional second course of creamed leeks, sausage, lardons, white broccoli sprouts and poached egg. We had a perfect stay and can’t wait to return. The added bonus was the selection of goodies we brought back from the farm shop , so we can continue to enjoy the coombeshead experience for several days to come! Thank you to everyone for two much needed days of relaxation.
Be the first to ReplyHome away from home
This place is a comfort hard to come by. The staff instantly welcoming and leave you assured this is your home for the days you’re there. Tea/ coffee facilities and gorgeous cake waiting for us in the room, which was clean and warming, one or both of us might have fell asleep in the bath we were so cosy.
Eating in the barn at tea time is such a delight, like dining in a old friends you haven’t seen in years, comfortable and calm. The best sourdough we’ve had and dishes that are delicious and considerate of what the farm itself produces. Amazing. Wine on tap from so many interesting winemakers. And after a content evening in the morning there was a bright, tasty breakfast to be had followed by a walk on the farm and a nosy in their perfect little shop selling all the treats enjoyed previously.
Our dog was pretty chuffed too. Thanks Coombeshead!
Lovely from start to finish
We are a family of four foodies and we have long wanted to visit Coombeshead for a meal. One of our sons surprised us with a meal here. We were so excited to be going at last.
We arrived to a lovely warm welcome and were shown to our table in the cosy restaurant. The service was delightful just the right amount of interaction, relaxed and unrushed and then the food came 😋. The best Sourdough I have ever tasted, tasty treats of pate and terrines, with sides of seasonal pickled veg taste explosions. The main event was the Mangalitza loin and assorted vegetables which made the four of us go quiet, whilst we savoured the flavour. We finished off with a heavenly Muscovado Tart and ice cream. Washed down with some great wines from a well curated list of options.
After coffee we headed off for an enjoyable stomp round the farm to round it off and were allowed a peak inside the main farmhouse which just made me want to book in for a stay, but we only live 20 mins away but maybe one day.
We will definitely be going back.

You will be very disappointed with Coombeshead Farm if these are your expectations:
1. Value for money.
2. Food Miles be Dammed
3. Well considered Accommodation - Not!
4. Breakfast (Free!)
1. Value for Money
The set menu is very poor value. Paying the best part of £100 for the meal I have just had is not acceptable. This Restaurant boasts that the provenance of it's food is it's prime concern. If the portion of 'off cut' Mangalitza Loin Chop was anything to go by - no more than 60grams - of which 60% was fat - then as good as it might taste the chef is being overly cautious about your diet! Interestingly 10 minutes into the meal a side plate of pork fillet slices surreptitiously appeared. A guilty conscience or maybe they under catered. Either way there was no apology or reference to this slip up. The rest of the meal was uninspiring and very bland with a slight over use of salt.
2. Food miles be Dammed!
If you are coming to Coombeshead Farm because you want to eat a meal where food miles are your prime concern then you are likely to be very pleased.
However, for me, taste & presentation is my primary interest when I spend £100 on a set menu. There was nothing about this meal that even deserved a raise
eyebrow. Very Ordinary Fare!
3. Well considered accommodation - Not!
The Yard 'Room' around the back of the Cafe was neat and tidy. The furnishings were appropriate but at £200 for the night I would have thought that anything other than chip foam pillows would have been the norm. I usually travel with my own pillows but I had incorrectly assumed that at least a choice of pillows would be available. No such luck. And what about somewhere to hang your newly acquired wardrobe of clothes for this special occasion.. There is no wardrobe. There is no place to store your suitcase. The only option being a row of hooks on the wall. So your once acceptable bedroom now resembles a students room with shoes, suitcases and clothes decorating the walls. The size of the shower and loo is vast. Ample room for a built in wardrobe but one gets the feeling that would cost too much at £200 a night!
4. Breakfast - Dont even think of full English!
If you have ever had Mangalitza Bacon then you know what real bacon is all about. Succulent and oozing with deep flavours. I was so looking forward to this meal as I only ever have breakfast when I am on holiday. For me it is a real treat. STOP. You are going to be very very disappointed. The choice for breakfast was 2 eggs or 1? Ahh yes, Black Pudding as well. No Bacon - not even a whiff of Bacon. Mind you the tomato relish secreted in the corner of the plate was very tasty. Before the eggs we were invited to get stuck into an array of cold unappetising yoghurt, preserved fruit and some sort of sloppy oats. No choice just dig in and get on with it. So so disappointing. I know the breakfast was free but how cheap can you get when you stay on a pig farm and they don't even offer you a slice of bacon.
So, all things considered this meal and night away was without doubt the most expensively unimpressive nights of my life.
The staff and the environs were very warm and welcoming. But I felt that we were somehow being used to make up for the lack of custom brought about by Covid over the previously barren months.
My advice - it is not worth the journey even if you live in Cornwall. If you don't live here then don't stop but carry on down the A30 for a few more miles and head towards, for example, Padstow. I hear Paul Ainsworth isn't cheap but at least you get what you pay for.
Disappointed.
Over priced & underwhelmed
My sons bought an overnight for my 70th, we arrived the casual concept was nice, but in my opinion taken too far as in & please remember this is judged against the price. The house was lovely, the room was good but no tv, coffee/tea facilities drinks fridge or shower cap for the ladies only a drench shower. The complete disaster was dinner, in seven courses only two of them had a merest hint of meet which was cooked to perfection but had little flavour. My comments at the time were "If I wanted to eat that much greenery I would have been bourn a cow" The retort was "we only have so many animals" Bearing in mind the cost of our experience DO I GIVE A DAM!
Be the first to ReplyA great place but significantly overpriced
My wife and I have just had an enjoyable stay and meal at Coombeshead Farm, but I feel that when you charge so much you open yourself up to criticism. You would be hard pressed to spend less than £500 for DB&B at Coombeshead so your expectations are high. Whilst the accommodation and food were very good there was a lot lacking at this premium rate. The main accommodation in the principal farmhouse is great - 6 bedrooms upstairs and the run of the 4 reception rooms downstairs. It felt very homely and I would not criticise anything there. It is the food element that begins to attract criticism as I think it is getting too pretentious and the chef is struggling to find a way to differentiate the establishment so introduced some odd ideas. We had a pleasant taster menu lasting 3 hours at £95 per head with wines ranging from £30 to £100+. An odd theme was the laughingly small quantities. For example the first plate was radish with a meso dip - not a whole radish but 4 thin slices - to share between us! Another plate was duck terrine, a portion smaller than a thin matchbox - again to share! A main plate was a very tasty slice of beef but a tiny portion. The pudding (apart from the inevitable sorbet) was a slice of mille feuille again to share! This somehow “trendy” way of serving food was repeated at breakfast. Having started with some shared yogurt and pear compot I was looking forward to the cooked part bearing in mind we are on a farm in the middle of the Cornish countryside. There was no choice but were served with one and a half sausages and 2 fried eggs - to share. Although beautifully cooked and presented, come on stop being so pretentious and give be a bit more.
Just to add a little more disappointment - you are invited to explore the farm, but there are no paths or routes suggested, the poor girl greeting us had clearly never walked around ant totally miss directed us. The vegetable garden was a barren mess, the shed area (not a cute barn per say) was unapproachable etc. So nothing to see there especially as we live in the country side.
As great as many of the aspects were here I can’t help but feel that the owners are milking an unsuspecting and innocent public who are lured into thinking it is good because they are paying so much rather than making a rational judgment.
Thank you for hosting us but I would happily have paid half as much.
