Great drinks and food
This is a little hole-in-the wall bar & restaurant on the lower end of Decatur Street. It's a bit divey but that's part of it's charm. My husband had the fried catfish and I had the fried shrimp and both were plentiful and delicious. We also had the Rum Punch to drink and they were tasty and strong.
Be the first to ReplyCool little dive bar in the French Quarter
One of my waiters at another restaurant recommended this place for gumbo, so I gave it a try. I am not a gumbo expert, but I liked it. Service was great, and very affordable. This is a small dive bar in the French Quarter, nothing extravagant, but I like those kinds of places. If you are nearby during lunch hour, I would give it a try.
Be the first to ReplyGood beer, great food, tons of character
Coop’s is my favorite spot in the city! Great food, great beers, great music. Very friendly staff, tons of local character, lots of lively conversation and NOT a tourist trap.

AWESOME food and funny staff. True hole in the wall in the French Quarter. Do not expect a fancy or formal experience- the staff is direct and doesn’t appreciate snooty or demanding guests, which is hilarious to me. It’s a place to get in, eat, and enjoy. Our waitress was hilarious and warm, it’s a small place to make sure everyone in your party is there to be seated. Must be 21. Best fried chicken and gumbo !
Be the first to ReplyRude staff but not bad food
I’ve tried eating here before but ended up leaving because a server yelled at me to wait outside after entering and when I stood in the wrong place outside the restaurant entrance, she came out and insulted my intelligence by saying to wait by the line on the sidewalk and said “you do know what a line is don’t you?” I gave it another chance and the staff was just rude and obnoxious. Won’t be back. The food wasn’t bad.

Excellent Cajun and Creole food. I really enjoyed their food. I know several places in Louisiana and this one is very worth it. Etoufee is delicious but prepare for a really spicy meal. The fried oysters, Cajun chicken and jambalaja, simply delicious. Every time I return to New Orleans I return to that place. The service is also very good.
Be the first to ReplySkip this place…rude staff…filthy bathrooms! Makes you wonder about cleanliness of the kitchen!
Good food…..rude waitress!! Bathroom was filthy! Would not have eaten here had I used the restroom first! Heard the men’s room was no better…which says a lot!
Be the first to ReplyFood good, staff rude
No doubt the food was excellent, but the waiter we had was obnoxious and rude. I think he was trying to be funny, but his sense of humor was crude. The bartender was intoxicated taking shots with the patrons. Overall, atmosphere was a tank, but food was delicious. I’d definitely recommend, but with different staff.
Be the first to ReplyFairly tasty food in a busy area.
We walked about 20 minutes to eat here because of the reviews. It was 3:00 on a Monday and we did not have to wait for a seat. However, the bar chairs are not comfortable for elderly—we were given a table when I requested after a little hassle. The woman server was a tad surly, but she was efficient. We liked the casual atmosphere of the place. The food was good and very plentiful, but I would not say it was great. We had so much better getting away from the Quarter a bit. I ordered a combination shrimp and oyster po boy with a side of fries. I was delivered the combination platter rather than the sandwich, and I think it was a better option actually and the fries were not extra. My husband had the sample plate. The chicken was excellent. I was not wild about the beans that I tried from the plate, so I liked my dinner better. He rated the gumbo as spicy and ok.
Be the first to ReplyGet away from Bourbon Street and enjoy this earthy bar/restaurant
A friend of mine, who is a New Orleans native, highly recommended this bar/restaurant for its earthiness, vibe and good food. He was spot on. We ordered a blackened redfish po' boy. It was huge on soft bun. It was one of the my favorite things I ate during our 5-day stay in the Big Easy. it was $22.95. The people sitting next to us ordered a huge plate of various fried things. They left one small French fry. They must have liked it. The bartender/server was friendly and was kept busy by a place full of customers. It's located near the French Market and Cafe du Monde' it was an easy walk 20 minute from our hotel (Renaissance French Quarter).
Be the first to ReplyBest Fried Chicken!
Coop's Place came highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The fried chicken was to die for and the dish came with two large crispy chicken breasts, jambalaya and coleslaw. It was a huge place of food. My friend had the cajun pasta and loved it.

We ate here twice while staying in NOLA for a week in early January. It was recommended by a food tour guide on our first day, and we were in a hotel nearby. Words to describe this place, lively, tasty, delicious, and memorable. The staff were fun and helpful and we felt very welcome. This is exactly the food we wanted to experience on our trip from Scotland.

Found this place when searching for restaurants that Locals eat at. It did not disappoint. The drinks were tasty, but the food was awesome. Excellent Creole/Cajun food - redfish, Shrimp etouffee. They may sit you at a long table with other guests -like a community style table; or you might get a regular table. The waitress gave us excellent suggestions on what to get, when we couldn't narrow down our choices - and they were so good.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic and Tasty Casual FQ Fare
In my opinion, this was the best local casual food in the FQ on our recent trip. Casual, nice, friendly bar feel. Great service. We had the fried oysters appetizer. My first time trying oysters, and they were very delicious. For my entrée, I had Chicken Tchoupitoulas. It was a delicious grilled chicken breast topped with shrimp in a cream sauce and tasso on top of rice and green beans on the side. Only thing I needed was a bit more of the delicious cream sauce. I also had a very nice cocktail, although I don't remember the name.

Awesome food and atmosphere! Kattai was fun and the food was outstanding.. we had the fried chicken, alligator bites! Everything was good
Be the first to ReplyNo pomp and circumstance here but some darn good food
If you want some great food without all the fuss, this is the place to be. Do not come here for ambiance, but you’ll be sure to get some good food. Ask the wirey, gravel voiced waiter-he steered us straight

A friend recommended going for the red beans and rice and it did not disappoint! So great with the perfect spice. We also got the coops taste plate and omg so good! The rabbit and sausage jambalaya was my favorite! The fried chicken was amazing too! I also got a Bloody Mary and it was Perfect’ spicy and flavorful!
Be the first to ReplyUnassuming 'dive' with great service and food!
Stopped here for a light dinner and drinks on a Saturday. Lucky enough to show up before there was a wait and were seated toward the back of the restaurant. This place is not fancy - looks like a dive and filled with both locals and tourists. We ordered the crab jalapeno poppers and BBQ shrimp (which was on special and not on their 'typical' menu) - both were delicious. Service was great and drinks strong. Watched the food coming out of the kitchen and the fried chicken looked legit - wished we would have been hungrier and tried it.

Had dinner here on a very busy night. Great menu. Service was good considering the place was packed. Food was delicious with reasonable prices. Loved the old school setting. Would recommend

I gotta say, we had one of the worst meals at Coop’s Place. It was doubly disappointing since Coop’s has nice reviews in Frommer’s and online. The two of us each had the Coop’s Plate tasting menu, which included Coop’s famous fried chicken and sides of shrimp creole, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. The plate came with a topping of, and let me say it with emphasis, one pitiful fried chicken wing set atop the three adjacent servings of the “sides.” Needless to say, the chicken wing was a derisory token of what was supposed to be their specialty. The shrimp creole, jambalaya, and beans & rice were pretty much indistinguishable, perhaps due to the fact that they all tasted like warmed over servings of leftover preparations. This meal earns a bottom rung in our culinary hell.

We love Coops Place and have always gone several times over our several visits to New Orleans. This trip however was such a huge disappointment. As always, the staff are great and most accomodating. Husband had the sampler plate and I had the gumbo. It was just so bland, and there was a very odd tasting seasoning in my dish. It tasted more like cinammon and was quite off putting to this famous dish. . . it was just not the geat food we have come to expect from here. Normally we eat here several times while in the city; this time once was more than enough.
Be the first to ReplyYou HAVE to go to Coop’s Place!
This is an easy one because the food was great and our waiter was AWESOME! He gave us three rules and we let him take over, best choice ever made. We had their lamb appetizer with this jelly that had a kick to it which was phenomenal! I had their Cajun seafood pasta, great suggestion and loved it!!
Be the first to ReplyDon't miss it
Best fried oysters in the world. You'll get faster service by sitting at the bar. If you're the oversensitive, snowflace type, you'll probably get offended within the first 15 minutes. The rest of you will love it. .

Obviously a place that has its fans. I'm not one of them. We were alternately ignored and insulted by the staff. After nearly a half-hour wait outside for a dirty table, it was another long wait to get drinks and another long wait after that for our order to be taken. One of our party was not served drinks despite being of legal age and not visibly impaired. When the food finally arrived after over an hour of being there, it was cold. I don't know what the secret is to getting decent service or good food here, but I will say that wait staff was visibly stressed out. That didn't entitle them to abuse their customers.
