Fabulous experience
Visited on a very cold April night - immediately greeted with a wonderful host who looked after us all night . Pod was warm with Bluetooth connection so we could play our own music . Food was wonderful , alcohol sourced from Uk was great standard . We were back together as a family ( “kids” returning from work and uni ) to celebrate some big birthdays , and it was a magical night . Thanks for all the extra effort put in , it really showed through . Great location to people watch from our pod as the light faded and the twinkly lights on the canal ( hey it’s the best Brum can do without a river ) . Well worth visiting , will be back

Last Thursday my husband and I went for lunch in one of the Pods as a treat for my birthday. We were warmly greeted by Vinny who served us all through lunch. The Pod was lovely great view of the canal too. Music by Michael Buble perfect !! We had a voucher so had a glass of wine but also bought a bottle of the local red wine which was called Penny Red from Halfpenny Green to be recommended delicious red ! We had everything explained during the service of lunch thanks to Vinny food was great plenty for us for a lunch and delicious all fresh too. We enquired about the restaurant and Vinny gave us a tour wow that was unexpected pure luxury in every way stunning rooms everyone we saw staff wise were smiling and greeting us. All in all 10/10 to Craft for giving me a perfect birthday lunch on a sunny day in the middle of Birmingham well done !!

Took my boyfriend for dinner in one of the pods for his birthday and it’s was a really cool experience. Nice vibe, could play our own music and had the whole pod to ourselves. There was also heating inside. The food was nice and looks like small portions but I was actually full by the end. The staff were friendly and even gave my boyfriend a birthday card at the end, a nice personal touch!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food & Service with warm welcome
Attended on Saturday with my partner received a warm welcome from the host and because we was early we popped to the cocktail bar inside for a drink whilst our pod was prepared
The place is split into 4 different areas which is really cool and is aimed at different dining experiences the pods being what they would consider there entry level whilst the two other areas Divide and kitchen table experience 8 naturally carrier a enhanced offering
Having said that if the pods are anything to go by then the others have to be worth a visit too
We had 4 courses my partner is vegetarian and loved the artichoke and celeriac dish where as I had chicken and the beef
You can see the level of quality in the produce and skill to produce the dishes and there served with a friendly face and warm personal touch
Anyone confusing mentioning or believing the pods are Fine dining offering is simply barking up the wrong tree, I don’t believe they ever want it to be and nor do I feel it’s intended to ever be that is reserved for inside either divide or 8
On that note it’s unfair to compare what is essentially incomparable
Given the current cost of food personally I felt the 4 courses was positioned just right given the quality and level of service
We was served by a lovely wrong girl who always had smile on her face and I also had chance to say hello to the owner who was helping, we didn’t realise at first as on face of it he looked like a normal member of staff
Also I think it’s hugely commendable that they take the approach of sourcing everything in the UK including wine, it brave but they pull it off with a diverse range of quality English wines this will be controversial in the UK as for some sad reason we don’t champion our own
This place is independent family run quality restaurant if you want something casual and fun the pods are a great option
If you want fine dining with a bit of style I would imagine divide would be more suitable or what looks like Ann amazing experience in the kitchen table in about 8! Which is where I am going next
Big thanks again see you soon

Ok, but not value for money
Four of us ate at this restaurant in one of their pods, pods were very comfortable and good to experience ,and the staff were friendly, but the food let the evening down, first course , half a slice of bread with butter!! The second course was chicken parfait which was very small but tasty, the main beef and chips again each component was tasty except for the small slice of beef which was very dry and fatty, the desert again tasty but very small, in conclusion I would not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming
4 course menu / cocktails
Booking 13/03/22 @ 5:45 / Tyrrell
Arrived 6pm and led to the cocktail bar while our pod was cleaned we were the only ones in there and table service cocktails did not arrive until 6:20 when we were then led to the pod.
Cocktails poor and lacked flavour and punch (rhubarb vodka hot butter / gin, clementine and tonic)
1st course- bread
2nd chicken parfait
The best part of the menu very tasty
3. Refined beef dinner and chips
It’s definitely a problem if the chips are the best thing about this, everything else was flavourless, Ox cheek dry and celeriac purée lacked seasoning.
4. Carrot cake
Meh - had better from boots
Deconstructed couple of forgettable spoonfuls
British Red wine - ok
Restaurant lacked personality layout is very disjointed and the pods do not work for service.
Fake Fine Dining Experience, Tasty Food, Lovey Setting, Tiny Portions, Friendly Waiters, Falls Short in Areas
I would like to begin this review noting the fact this dining experience was purchased for my partner and I as a Virgin Experience gift. The Experience was for a 6 course taster meal in the dining room. We are from Nottingham, and wanted to tie our meal into visiting Crufts that day. We called a few days prior to book a table and were told there was no space for us in the dining room for the 6 course taster menu, but we were able to have a garden pod, and the 4 course meal that they offered instead. There was no mention that there was a price difference between these two ‘experiences’ and as we needed to tie in our Crufts trip, we accepted this offer of dining in the pod, as we assumed it would be like for like.
On arriving at restaurant, which is in a lovely location next to the canal , it immediately struck us how empty the restaurant appeared from the outside. My partner ventured to the toilet shortly after arriving and peered into the main restaurant through the internal double doors and noted that there only seemed to be a few people in there, and he thought it unusual that they were unable to fit us in for the original experience that the voucher was intended for.
The waiter was extremely friendly and upbeat, thank god, as we found as a couple the whole meal in a pod concept to be a little isolating. The pods are comfortable inside, and do have a great view, but at night it is is hard to see this through the smeary windows. Also the downlighting was very white/cold and didn’t have a warm ambience to it. I think lighting could benefit from a much warmer 3-4000k bulbature.
The wine menu was very interesting in that it was all British wine, and the waiter made a great suggestion as to a wine we may like, when considering our preference is usually a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc - I was surprised for a sommelier not to be present here, as they seem to take their wine quite seriously; offering pairings with each of the 4 courses. The actual physical design of the wine menu really complemented the overall atmosphere and branding of the restaurant…but then there was this rather crass plastic menu stand with the 4 course printed out menu inside, one that you would most likely associate with a roadside greasy spoon; I just found it rather incongruous, considering the attention to detail in other areas.
The meal was 4 course, but the first ‘course’ was half a slice of bread. Never in my life has bread been counted as a course at a restaurant, and if it were to be counted as a course, I’d expect some sort of bread platter, which encompassed some locally produced fare. We were expecting a more amuse bouche or canapé sort of affair for the first course, so that was a shame. It was also very strange that there was quite simply NO CHOICE at all, except for veggie and fish options on course 2 and 3.
The second course we chose was chicken parfait, which albeit delicious, was very meagre. The waiter was always very attentive, asking us if the pod was warm enough between courses, and if we wanted to take a break, but to be honest, the courses were so small we needed them to keep coming!
The main was a slice of beef, ox cheek cube, a carrot, Bernaise sauce and a bowl of chips. The food was tasty, but fell very short of a fine dining experience in my opinion. Although tasty it wasn’t quite warm enough, there wasn’t enough of it. My main problem was the large amount of fat of the beef fat was not rendered and seasoned enough to make it palatable, it was just wobbly jelly fat, not something I’d enjoy eating. The chips were nice, but nothing to write home about, and the fact they were just plonked in a bowl meant that they lacked the finesse needed to complement the meal. Once finishing this course, we were still left very hungry…
The pudding was a deconstructed carrot cake, tasty, but also a meagre portion.
When it came to settling the bill, nothing was deducted from our wine order to balance the difference between the 6 course taster meal that our voucher was originally for (£55pp without the voucher) and the 4 course meal we were given (£45pp without any voucher ) The manager refused, saying that we accepted to eat in the pod and that the virgin voucher for the 6 course menu had a monetary value of £40pp and so he would not deduct the percentage difference off the cheaper 4 course menu to honour a saving on our meal that was gained through booking the meal with Virgin. He wouldn’t factor in that if the four course taster had be purchased as ‘Virgin experience’ that the £45 pp would become cheaper and so the percentage difference would remain. If we had wanted to ‘upgrade’ our 4 course meal to the 6 course taster then I’m sure he would have charged us the difference for this…
We were also surprised that when the bill it included quite frankly a huge service charge and rather embarrassingly we had to request that this was removed due to the above.
The whole experience had a distinct lack of atmosphere and just didn’t feel like a genuine fine dining experience. It was like a toy town establishment pretending to be something that it isn’t … very manufactured feeling and quite odd. Not to mention we barely saw any other customers which felt really detached, with no real vibes.
All very disappointing and we will not be returning, and on reading through the manager’s responses to any negative reviews, one could draw the conclusion that they are a type of person who cannot take on board any sort of constructive criticism, and does not consider or have a genuine care about their customer’s enjoyment and overall satisfaction when dining at the establishment. Fake fine dining - this experience does not come from the heart.
Stunning, great food, great location and exceptional service.
Booked online and emailed a few questions. Sam replied within minutes, answering everything and doing all possible before we set off on a long journey to the Craft Gardens. Arrived a few minites late due to Birmingham determination to keep all cars away from the hotels they need to get to. This was not an issue for the team, and we were greeted with a smile. Ate in the sound proofed pod with music facility and drank in a smaller pod before the Texas concert started, because Sam had arranged all of this in advance for us. The entire team (and we were served by four of them) were outstanding, from the experienced,to the inexperienced, the customer service was faultless. The food was lovely, the English wines a delight and mot importantly, to relax and enjoy the experience was clearly the mission of all the team working there. Well done to you all, to the business and you deserve huge success. I would return without hesitation.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, fun night with delicious food
Booked this for a special birthday - daughters 21st, really easy to book , great menu which sounded delicious and we thought the pods would be a unique experience. We weren’t disappointed. Friendly, attentive and knowledgable staff, wonderful set menu and we had a vegetarian , pescatarian and meat so we tried a few! All were delicious. The English wines were wonderful and we appreciated the use of local companies. A great experience for a special night …we would definitely recommend !

This really is ALL THE 5 STARS !!!
An absolute joy of an evening. Amazing entrance, a huge welcoming smile
From the team and straight to our pod. Toasty warm on a winters night in Brum, and a really secure and tranquil space on the canal.
Service was excellent, friendly and genuinely helpful throughout the night. But obviously we were there for the food. Amazing dishes throughout and all arrived at a good time. We never felt rushed and had a great evening. All things considered, this real was a wonderful experience.
We will be back very soon with friends. Please make the trip here !!
