Great Vibe
I really like the vibe here but the bar is very small and only a few good seats. It’s not overly dark and somewhat brightly lit for early evening snacks and drinks which is when I normally come right before a show. The dishes are small which allow you to try more and they are very tasty but be warned, some are very spicy. I have to avoid the spicy wings and Kimchi fried rice because they are too spicy for me.

Delicious, creative Korean food that's for diners educated in the cuisine or trying it for the first time. Cozy (small) restaurant with a friendly staff.

NOISY I went with my husband few weeks ago, it has been very hard talk one each other as being a small room without sound-proofing we couldn’t hear our voices!!! Bathroom/restroom is located next to the kitchen open door

Be the first to ReplyBest Restaurant in the Theater District
The theater district is not known for its good restaurants - quality is really low in this area - which is really annoying because dinner and a show is a great evening out, right? We just made a trip to NYC and saw several shows and had lots of meals - Danji was my favorite dinner of the whole trip. We ordered a tasting menu - where you just give yourself over to the kitchen and they bring out a bunch of courses - this is a great option because you end up eating a lot of courses that you would never order off the menu. Every single course was delicious. I love the service - it's smart and cool and unassuming. The wine list is good. And the prices are reasonable. It's a pretty small space!

Servers were very good. Had outdoor seating in private street shed. Needed to be careful of bikers upon exiting the shed. Party of four sharing plates. We tried the soya wings, shrimp scallion pancake, bulbogi bibimbap, fresh noodles in black bean, rice cakes, tofu and the banchan trio. Scallion pancakes were flavourful and crisp. The shrimp stood out and the heat from the pepper. Bibimbap was fresh. Tofu was crispy while still ultra smooth and silky on the interior. The rice rolls were toasted and had a snap and nice texture with good balance of spice and heat. The noodles were fresh but the pork belly was rather absent; probably the least favourite of what was ordered. Service great. Dinner was ~$200 for food and tip with no alcohol. Michelin star rated

We have been visiting Danji since right after their opening and still find the food to be amazing. The place itself is small (some would say intimate) with a handful of tables and limited bar seating. Private outdoor seating (ok, in plywood cubicles sans ambience) to deal with the pandemic. The consistency of the food quality, despite having huge price increases and lackluster service (docked a star for this), has us pining for more. So, if you love good Korean, go here but if you are one that craves the presence of others eat inside.
Be the first to ReplyWe ate in a wooden box
The food was good and reasonably priced, but we literally ate in a plywood box on the street. Isolated and not with any other diners! What!? The box was heated (and there is an air conditioner for summer) but who wants to dine alone? The restaurant itself was small - a bar plus a few tables. I realize these boxes originated from Covid needs, but why go out to dinner in this setting. Good service.

Three of us met up for dinner on a warm evening. We had made reservations to sit in one of their enclosed outdoor huts in front of the restaurant. I had been there before, but my friends were trying it for the first time.
We all agreed that dinner was a 10/10! We shared soy-honey chicken wings, handmade crispy vegetable dumplings, soy poached black cod with spicy daikun, and prosecco sorbet for dessert. SO good! Great service, too. Definitely recommend.
Good if you are in the Theatre District
It's good, but not a destination restaurant. It isn't one of those places you would insist that your friends try. It is the best Korean restaurant in this area so if you are visiting and your hotel is near? Sure. Service is very good and the food (while a limited offering) is pretty good. I just think there are better, more authentic places in K-town down in the low 30's. No complaints but it doesn't have that "WOW" factor for me

Stopped here for dinner before a show. Small spot and we were kind of rushed through our meal (they fired all of our tapas at once!), but the food was quite good.
Lots of delicious dishes, nice cocktails, and some real unusual ice cream flavors for dessert!
Highly recommend - lovely restaurant
Korean Tapas - really good. A little pricey. Have the chicken wings and pancake. Also recommend a Kloud beer. Service was also excellent, well worth a visit.

I booked in here for before seeing a broadway show and so pleased I did, the good reviews and recommendations did not disappoint. We opted for the taster menu as really could not decide what to have as everything sounded so good and I am pleased we did as wow the food was so tasty. It was great to try a selection of the favourite dishes and there was so much of it too so struggled to finish the final dishes. I could have have more of the pork belly though as that was delicious. It’s only a small restaurant but the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was just outstanding. Would love to go back when in the city.

Danji has a white brick interior with Korean-fusion tapas-like dishes. It is an intimate space with cute touches (for example menu is in drawers under the table). It is small though, and most of the seating is communal. They have both tasting menu ($58 pp) or a la carte menu.
We did the tasting menu, and loved it! It had tofu with ginger scallion dressing (fantastic, the marination is spot on Korean cuisine, interesting texture, almost sticky), bossam (very tender, small chunks of pork), slider of the day (bulgogi burger), soy-poached black cod wth spicy daikon, 'danji' braised black angus short rib with root vegetables, wings, sashimi, trio of kimchi, white rice, and ice cream. Hell's Kitchen area--great for pre theater eats.
Loved it
little cozy and expensive, but great food, creative take on traditional korean favorites, great ambience. space is little tight, but our party of 9 had no problem. we are koreans who are initiated but still enjoyed the dishes thoroughly. one of the best creative foodie korean restaurant we've been to.
